Outside the school where Jake Quinn (Christopher Colquhoun) is holding Sophie Parry (Emma Natasha Miles) and Polly Carr (Lovelle Hill) hostage, Inspector Gina Gold (Roberta Taylor) is stiff with terror after hearing a gun shot ring out, fearing that Sergeant Smith (Alex Walkinshaw) has been injured – or worse.
Superintendent Heaton (Daniel Flynn) takes control of the situation by making Sergeant Stone (Sam Callis) the hostage negotiator and alerting the Armed Response Unit who make their way into the school. Meanwhile, Stone calls Jake who tells the Sergeant he will only speak to Sophie’s mother and the woman he has been stalking, Nicola (Joanna Roth). Gina is devastated when Jake tells Stone that if Nicola doesn’t talk to him, he will shoot the girls, just as he shot Smithy.
Nicola rushes to the school and talks to Jake on the phone, following Stone’s orders. As Jake becomes increasingly agitated, Sophie attempts to escape but when Jake grabs her, Smithy suddenly jumps up to protect her but finds himself also taken hostage. Nicola calls Jake again to ask if everyone is ok and he admits Polly is suffering from a severe asthma attack. Nicola does the unthinkable and tells him that she’ll talk to Jake face to face if he allows the medics in.
Jake agrees and Sergeant Rachel Weston (Claire Goose) dresses as a paramedic and, while leading Polly out, surveys the classroom that Smithy and Sophie are being held in. Afterwards, Rachel explains the setup to Heaton who alerts the Armed Response Unit. As Stone attempts to distract Jake on the phone, the armed troops burst in on the classroom.
Later, back at Sun Hill, Gina packs up her office. Smithy helps her out with her belongings as Gina takes one last look around before leaving Sun Hill.
