View Full Version : Ex-Neighbours star to join Emmerdale
EX-NEIGHBOURS star Mark Little is going to be transformed into a suave mystery stranger when he appears in a special episode of Emmerdale.
The actor – best known for his role as Joe Mangel in the Aussie soap – will spring up in the village in October as smooth character Jonty who has come to visit Louise (Emily Symons).
His presence causes upset among other residents of the Dales – especially Bob (Tony Audenshaw) and Terry (Billy Hartman), who fear he’ll become a love rival for Emily’s on-off fiancé Jamie (Alex Carter).
Will Jonty’s arrival make or break Louise and Jamie’s relationship?
Mark said: “I’m a big fan of Emmerdale and I’m looking forward to appearing in such an established show. My character is a true Aussie with some great lines. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
The episode will be shown on ITV1 in late October
Former Neighbours star Mark Little has confirmed that he has no plans to return to the soap.
The actor played Joe Mangel on the Aussie show from 1988 until 1991. He later reprised the role for a guest stint in 2005 to coincide with the programme's 20th anniversary.
"I think I've done my bit in Neighbours," Little is quoted by The Press Association as saying. "Joe Mangel is just a fond memory, and he certainly is that for a lot of people who still remember Joe. I was only three years in that soap, it's long ago, so I did something right or something wrong, I don't know."
Little recently filmed a guest appearance in ITV1's Emmerdale, but missed out on a reunion with his former Neighbours co-star Anne Charleston, best known for her roles as Ramsay Street's Madge Bishop and Yorkshire Dales resident Lily Butterfield.
"The three days that I worked on Emmerdale, Anne Charleston had two weeks off. So I missed seeing Anne, which is just the way it goes," he explained. "She was most upset. It would have been great to do some stuff with her.
"That would have been just too weird actually, to do a scene with Madge in the Woolpack. I don't know if I could cope with that. That would have been a little too much."
Little's appearance on Emmerdale can be seen in Tuesday's episode of the soap.
