24th September

Sergeant Rachel Weston (Claire Goose) and PC Millie Brown (Clare Foster) are called to a disturbance at a bank where they discover emotional Sandra Marks (Caroline O’Neill) who has attacked a security guard in her haste to get immediate access to her safety deposit box. Back at the station, Rachel briefs Sergeant Stone (Sam Callis) who demands to see Sandra when Rachel mentions she smelt of petrol. Stone gently rolls up Sandra’s sleeve to reveal an ugly burn on her arm and immediately orders his team to get to her house. There, PC Leon Taylor (Dominic Power) finds Sandra’s husband, Nathan (John Straiton) tied up and gagged while Sergeant Smith (Alex Walkinshaw) and Stone are horrified to find the Marks’ two children covered in petrol, also bound and gagged…

Later, Stone updates his officers and explains he previously solved a case of aggravated burglaries that mirror the current one. Stone caught one suspect, the currently imprisoned Martin Donavan (Brian Croucher) through an anonymous tip off, but failed to get enough evidence against the other suspect, Martin’s son, Glen (John Sheahan). Glen is brought in for questioning but when his alibi is confirmed by his wife, Meg (Charlotte Pyke), he suggests Stone has a personal grudge against him as Stone once had an affair with Meg. As the investigation continues, Stone is horrified to learn that Nathan set the whole thing up in order to pay off his spiralling debts and finally names Glen as one of the suspects.

After the interview, Stone and Smithy are called to a disturbance at Glen’s home and Stone is distraught to find Glen has viciously beaten Meg after she told him she would blow his alibi. As Smithy goes to arrest Glen, he turns violent again and punches the sergeant to the floor. Stone, seeing red, grabs Glen off Smithy and begins to hit him over and over again until Rachel and her stunned PCs enter the room. Back at the station, Inspector Gina Gold (Roberta Taylor) tells Stone and Smithy that she managed to get Glen to drop the claim of police brutality against Stone by blackmailing him. Smithy, shocked that Gina has gone to such lengths to get a result on a case, tells her that maybe her time at Sun Hill is over…

Thursday, 25 September 2008,

Sergeants Stone (Sam Callis) and Smith (Alex Walkinshaw), tackle a case where stabbing victim, Jake Quinn (Christopher Colquhoun), insists that the husband of a married woman he was having an affair with, Nicola Parry (Joanna Roth), attacked him. Jake tells the officers that after he ended things with Nicola, she continued to bombard him with calls until her husband, Gerard (Michael Simkins), found out. Nicola is interviewed and insists that the ‘affair’ with Jake was a one night stand which she immediately regretted. She tells Stone that Jake is the one that has been bombarding her with calls and following her. Both she and her daughter, Sophie (Emma Natasha Miles), insist that Gerard couldn’t harm anyone. Gerard is finally tracked down and admits that he punched Jake but had nothing to do with the stabbing. Later, Inspector Gina Gold (Roberta Taylor) and Smithy are shocked when they are told that forensic evidence suggests Jake stabbed himself.

After realising that Jake is unstable and has checked himself out of St Hugh’s, an anxious search for him begins. As the investigation progresses, Smithy finds out that Jake was deported from Australia the year before after an allegation of sexual assault on a young woman. The search for Jake becomes more frantic when they find CCTV images of Jake leaving an internet café with Sophie – and a gun in his pocket. The manager of the café tells the officers that Sophie and Jake have struck up a friendship over the previous few months. Determined to find out more about this ‘friendship’, Smithy and Gina arrive at Sophie’s school to talk to her best friend Polly (Lovelle Hill) but Smithy is alarmed to see Jake’s car parked outside. While Gina evacuates the school, Smithy enters the building and hides outsides Sophie’s classroom, where he can see an increasingly agitated Jake screaming at Sophie and her terrified friends. Blaming Sophie for getting him into such a mess, he fails to see Smithy quietly enter the classroom in an attempt to disarm him. Furious, Jake overpowers Smithy and knocks him to the ground and Gina can only stare at the school in horror as she hears a gunshot ring out.

Wednesday's episode looks good. I hope Gina sticks around for a bit longer, it will be sad to see her go.

Can't they find a better replacement than her? She doesn't cut it as a sargent, let alone an inspector

Kiddie Cop will be hoping that she is asked to stay on at Sun Hill and take over the role as Inspector.
