Marlon (Mark Charnock) confides in Ashley (John Middleton) about Donna’s (Verity Rushworth) anxiety and panic attacks and Ashley agrees to try and help. Ashley accompanies Marlon to the hospital and encourages Donna to open up. Donna admits her fear following the crash and explains how alone she feels as Ross (Samuel Anderson) is the only person who was there and could understand. Ashley wonders if her feelings run deeper and Donna admits she’s confused.

Later Ashley tells Ross that Donna needs his support and friendship. With desperate Marlon’s agreement, Ross visits Donna who is thrilled and admits she’s missed him. Ross tells her he knows they can never be more than friends, but will their conviction back up the sentiment?

Meanwhile, Sam (James Hooton) is desperate for an update from Debbie (Charley Webb) but she tells him he is wrong and Jo (Roxanne Pallett) and Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) are fine. Sam won’t accept it and points out Jo needs a friend. Debbie is dismissive. Andy finds Sarah’s picture screwed up in the bin and is horrified. Jo lies that Debbie saw it but thought it was about the goat incident. Andy fears his daughter sees him as a monster.

Elsewhere, Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) is excited about the book reading and David (Matthew Wolfenden) struggles to contain her enthusiasm, both unaware that Rodney (Patrick Mower) is suspicious. Later, Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) tells Rodney that her class have been invited to a book reading and boldly shows him the flyer. Rodney is incredulous to see a picture of Nicola and David on it along with Rollercoaster Rod.

Tuesday 16 September

Matthew (Matt Healy) and Jimmy (Nick Miles) meet the client, with Carl (Tom Lister) regretting stabbing Donald (Michael Jayston) in the back. Anna (Emma Davies) tells Donald their client has taken his business to the Kings and she’s sure Carl has tipped them off. Donald refuses to believe her but confronts Carl and realises it’s true. Donald states he’s treated Carl like a son but Carl reminds him Anna has made his life a misery.

Realising blood will always be thicker than water for Carl, Donald hands him a cheque for half a million pounds to buy him out of the business. Carl takes it, sadly. He returns home to Lexi (Sally Oliver), who notices he’s still torn about where his loyalties lie. Later Donald and Anna argue as Anna insists she’ll never be good enough for her father to run his business. She watches in horror as Donald clutches his chest. Anna rings an ambulance fearing he’s having a heart attack.

Also, Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) fends off the laughter of other villagers and heads of to the first book reading in a ridiculous outfit. While packing the car with David (Matthew Wolfenden), she is forced to cover when Rodney (Patrick Mower) asks if she would like some company. Rodney is saddened at Nicola’s betrayal and returns home. Later, Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) quizzes Rodney as to why he is so despondent. She urges him to go to the second book reading taking place tomorrow.

Wednesday 17 September

Carl (Tom Lister) rejoins King & Sons, unaware that Donald (Michael Jayston) is fighting for his life in a hospital bed. At the hospital, Anna (Emma Davies) is upset when it’s revealed Donald needs a pacemaker. A furious Donald wakes up and states his intention to sign the business to Anna. When the solicitor arrives, Anna tears up the contract and states her intention to win Donald’s trust by fair means. Reunited, father and daughter plot to take everything from the Kings and destroy the family.

Also, Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) is put out when she discovers she’ll have to read in front of the children. As she begins reading, the story turns violent quite quickly and the horrified parents lead their children out. With only Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) left, she draws Nicola’s attention to a fuming Rodney (Patrick Mower). Incredulous at her deception, Rodney throws Nicola out onto the street. She states that she doesn’t need Rodney and proceeds to move in with a less than thrilled David (Matthew Wolfenden).

Meanwhile, when Donna (Verity Rushworth) gets the go ahead to return home, in her excitement she kisses Ross (Samuel Anderson). Pulling away she tells Ross to get out. Ross claims that the kiss meant something, but Donna hurtfully retorts that it meant nothing to her and she bitterly regrets it. Later, Donna covers her guilt when she announces to Marlon (Mark Charnock) that she’s coming home.

Thursday 18 September

Katie (Sammy Winward) approaches Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) and trying to help, wants him to be aware that Jo (Roxanne Pallett) is spreading vicious rumours around the village. Andy is stunned as Katie explains Debbie (Charley Webb) asked her whether he ever hit her when they were together. Andy is grateful for Katie’s loyalty but privately rattled as he denies hurting Jo.

Later when Jo arrives home Andy can’t contain his fury and is about to lash out when Jo quickly lies that she’s pregnant, in order to avoid a beating. Andy is delighted by the news and it has the desired effect. When Andy books her a doctor’s appointment, Jo begins to realise her lie may backfire. Meanwhile Andy confronts Debbie accusing her of spreading rumours and warns her not to interfere. In order to shut Debbie up he reveals Jo’s pregnancy news. After her doctor’s appointment, Jo prepares to tell Andy the truth but Daz approaches and relays Debbie has told him the good news. As the other villagers overhear, Jo wishes the ground would swallow her whole.

Leaving Donald (Michael Jayston) for his operation, Anna (Emma Davies) warns a stunned Carl (Tom Lister) to keep away from her father. Undeterred, Carl pays Donald a visit, but is interrupted by a furious Anna who threatens to call security. Donald is impressed by her vigour. Later that day, after sending Carl on a business trip, Matthew (Matt Healy) heads to the hospital and proposes a truce between the Kings and De Souzas. Donald agrees and then secretly tells Anna to use Matthew’s attraction to her against him. Desperate to impress, Anna shares a drink with Matthew.

Elsewhere, Donna (Verity Rushworth) warns Ross (Samuel Anderson) that there will be no repeat of their kiss. Ross accuses her of hiding her feelings for him. However, when Marlon (Mark Charnock) return Donna tells him that she definitely won’t return to the police force. Marlon can’t hide his delight and breaks the news to Ross. He accuses Donna of basing her decision around her personal feelings for him.

Friday 19 September

Concerned that Sarah (Sophia Amber Moore) will come second to Jo (Roxanne Pallett) and Andy’s (Kelvin Fletcher) baby, Debbie (Charley Webb) tackles Jo, but Jo calls her bluff by suggesting she take Sarah then. Debbie retreats. Later she confides in Eli that even if she wanted custody she’d lose because she’s a single mum.

Eli takes a job for Debbie driving Louise (Emily Symons) back from the airport and can’t resist asking her how it feels to be engaged. Later Eli can’t believe his luck when he finds a diamond ring in the back of the taxi. Eli admits to Marlon (Mark Charnock) he’s planning to propose to Debbie. Marlon’s incredulous but Eli won’t be put off.

Elsewhere, Jo’s consumed by guilt when Andy tells Sarah she’s going to have a baby brother or sister. Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) notes Andy’s change in mood and hopes everything will work out for the troubled couple. Doing the rounds, Diane also visits Jo and reassures her she’ll be there if needed. Can Jo continue to mask her lies or will she be brought down to earth with a bump?

Meanwhile, Val (Charlie Hardwick) is furious when it transpires that Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) has doodled Rollercoaster Rod rewrites on her Woolpack menus. She begs Rodney (Patrick Mower) to take back his daughter but he refuses. Instead, Val complains to Paul that Nicola has outstayed her welcome and hopes she’ll resolve things with Rodney soon. Nicola is convinced he’ll forgive her but is proved wrong when Rodney throws another bin bag of belongings at her.
