A frustrated DI Samantha Nixon (Lisa Maxwell) voices her concerns to DC Jacob Banks (Patrick Robinson) about Tom Norris (Henry Garrett), whose attempted rape and murder trial fell apart on a technicality the previous day. Since then, Norris has eluded Samantha’s surveillance team and another woman, Carol Peters (Sally Tatum) has been raped. Samantha is convinced Norris is behind the latest attack, but Banksy irritates her by holding judgement.

Samantha and PC Mel Ryder (Rhea Bailey) later visit Carol in hospital where she tearfully tells the DI she didn’t see her attacker’s face. Elsewhere, Norris’s housemate, Dan Cox (Jay Taylor), is brought in for questioning and admits he drove Norris to the train station and then, on Norris’s orders, dumped the car. The vehicle is finally uncovered and CSE Eddie Olosunje (Jason Barnett) briefs Samantha and DC Jo Masters (Sally Rogers) on his findings – blood on a jumper that Carol confirms her attacker was wearing.

Banksy later meets his wife, tough solicitor, Naomi Woods (Kim Thomson), who tells him that Norris and Dan used to work together but when Tom quit following a sexual harassment charge, Dan claimed the woman was lying. This new information turns the case on its head – are Norris and Dan working together to prey on young women? The officers have no choice but to release Dan and put him under surveillance, in the hope he will lead them to Norris.

Dan later turns up at a pub to perform his strip act and Samantha sends Mel in to keep an eye on him. As Banksy and Samantha wait in a car outside, Jo calls them with new surprising evidence and the officers realise that Dan is about to run. After a hectic chase, Dan is caught and brought in for intense questioning. The case takes another sinister turn when Banksy finally traces Dan’s car and finds Norris in the boot, tied up, bloodied and beaten.

Thursday, 18 September
Inspector Gina Gold (Roberta Taylor) decides to take a stand against the young criminals of Sun Hill and requests a heavy presence of officers at a local shopping centre. While patrolling the streets, two suspected shoplifters, Charlie Nelson (Christian Lees) and Jenny Frake (Lakechia Jeanne) are spotted and brought into the station for questioning. As Charlie is checked into custody, pulling several counterfeit notes from his pockets, Gina is alarmed to see bruising all over his torso.

Charlie’s aunt, Elaine Marshall (JoAnne Good) is called to the station and expresses her concern over Charlie’s bruising. She tells Gina that she tries to help out where she can but that Charlie’s father, Tom (Steve Furst) doesn’t like her coming over to the house. When Tom is later questioned, he is horrified to hear about the day’s events and confuses the officers by telling them he hasn’t lived with Charlie for years.

Back at the station, Charlie eventually opens up to PC Leon Taylor (Dominic Power) and admits that he took the forged notes from his violent aunt, who has been living with him for months – since his mother had been imprisoned for drug offences. The PC is horrified when, after re-introducing Charlie to Tom, Charlie runs away from the station. As the investigation continues, the officers learn that Charlie is planning on meeting violent forger, Mike Reavie, to obtain counterfeit notes in order to disappear for good, but Charlie doesn’t realise how much danger he’s in.

Elsewhere, Elaine is put under surveillance in the hope she will blow open the counterfeiting operation. Gina waits outside Elaine’s house and determined to arrest her, lies to Sergeant Smith (Alex Walkinshaw) and says she saw Elaine with a gun. On Smithy’s orders, CO19 burst into Elaine’s house. Absolutely terrified, she swears she doesn’t have a gun and tells a demanding Gina where she can find Mike. Later in the cells, Gina takes great delight in telling Elaine in no uncertain terms how happy she’ll be to see her locked up for a long time. With her colleagues showing concern and Smithy convinced that his Inspector lied about what she saw, has Gina gone too far?
