'I'm glad I wasn't young when I found fame... I'd have waltzed off with Abi Titmuss,' Strictly's Len Goodman confesses all

By Jenny Johnston (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/search.html?s=y&authornamef=Jenny+Johnston)
Last updated at 9:30 PM on 22nd August 2008

Len Goodman is pulling his 'Carol Vorderman on Strictly Come Dancing' face, and it is frankly disturbing. 'It wasn't all Carol's fault, though,' he explains, ever the gent, rolling his eyes back down from their sockets.

'Her partner chose a very raunchy rumba, for starters. Then there was this BBC obsession - which I hate, by the way - with facial expressions. They are always telling the poor sods that they have to show emotion through their faces, which is daft because you end up with cheesy grins and 'oooh-ooohs'.

The upshot for Carol was that she ended up pulling all these moody faces, like she was having a multiple orgasm all the time. Excuse me, but you know the face I mean.' Well, I do now, Len.
A few years ago, the only way you'd have heard of Len Goodman, surely Strictly's biggest star, was if you were a ballroom dancing nut, or you lived in Dartford and had ever been through a stage where tutus are to-die-for.

Goodman Dance Centre has been going strong in the Kent town for 40 years, with everyone's kid 'coming up Goodmans', as he puts it, to learn to dance.
Len still pops in from time to time, usually to a hero's welcome from the students, whether they be toddlers or grannies. 'Behind the record player I have paddles, and I'll stick up a seven for them. They love all that.'
Len might well have been happy with his lot - ex-competitive ballroom dancer turned small town dance teacher - had Strictly not come calling.

Now he is a bona fide celeb himself - up there with poor Carol in being ripe for public humiliation. He knows so because he opened his Sunday newspaper recently to find that he had been photographed taking the bins out in his dressing gown.
'That was the point where I thought, "the world's gone stark raving bonkers," ' he admits. 'It was one of my bloody neighbours who earned himself a few bob tipping them off. If I'd known, I'd have said to him: "Next time, let me in on it, and I'll do it naked. We can split the cash."'

Still, he's as chuffed with the attention as he is bewildered.
He tells me today that although he is now irrefutably head honcho on the show's jury, he was actually the last judge cast in the role - and was mightily peeved at that.
A few years back, word had gone round the ballroom dancing world that the BBC was looking for a panel of experts for an updated version of Come Dancing, and 'everyone' had been asked to audition - save for Len.
'I was quite miffed, to be perfectly honest. I'm not blowing my own trumpet, but I had been knocking around for a few years and was well known on the judging circuit. I kept thinking, "what's wrong with me?" '
In the event, they did call - 'I think they had run out of people to ask,' he quips - and he did get the job.
He filmed the pilot show for Strictly on his 60th birthday - a bit late to start appearing in Heat magazine, he concedes - but things promptly started 'to go pretty nuts'.
Strictly was a ratings sensation. Celebs fell over themselves, literally, to take part. Len, the resident smoothie, was feted. The producers of Dancing With The Stars - the U.S. version of Strictly - wooed him, which meant a transatlantic commute between the two shows, a la Simon Cowell.

'I hate ballroom and the judges love make-up': Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood reveals all (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1047918/I-hate-ballroom-judges-love-make-Strictly-Come-Dancing-judge-Craig-Revel-Horwood-reveals-all.html)

In light entertainment terms, this is about as big as it gets. Every time he gets a pay cheque, he tells me, 'it feels like winning the lottery'.
We meet at a chic West London hotel where he is fresh from L.A. - exquisitely pressed and matching the mahogany furniture. He rarely gives interviews, but he's just completed his irresistibly engaging autobiography, which is serialised from Monday in the Mail. He admits to a near panic attack when he discovered that fellow Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood was also penning his life story.

'He was a rent boy, you know,' Len tells me, eyebrows doing a little dance of their own. 'And a transvestite. The stories he has told me would make your hair curl. When I heard he was doing a book and was going to tell all, I thought, "oh blimey". I was straight onto my publishers saying: "If you are expecting shock horror to compete with that you've got the wrong bloke in me."'
Funnily enough, he and Craig did battle over what to call their respective books. 'We were in a cab somewhere swopping ideas. I was saying things like "what about Cheek To Cheek", when the driver piped up, "I have got a good name for your book - All Balls And Glitter". So we both said, "yes, yes - brilliant," but we had to toss a coin for it. Craig won.'
And rightly so. Lovely though he is, Len doesn't do 'glitter'. Nothing about him suggests 'ballroom dancer'. He is taller than you might imagine, and well built with it. He also sounds more Vinnie Jones than Fred Astaire. I point this out and he positively beams.
'There used to be a show called What's My Line? where you had to guess what someone did for a living. I always wanted to go on because no one would ever have got me as a ballroom dancer. I think they'd have probably said I was more of a welder or a plumber. I always liked that.'

So, presumably, did the ladies. Can there be a more attractive ideal than a man who can whisk you off your feet, and also look as if he can plaster a ceiling? His eyes twinkle.
'Let me tell you a secret. I'm rubbish at DIY. Can't do a thing. But ballroom dancing is the most marvellous business to be in because all the girls are beautiful and all the blokes are gay!'
Except him, clearly. We get to talking about showbiz success landing on him so late in life, and I ask if he ever wishes that it had all happened for him sooner?
'Oh no,' he says, roaring with laughter. 'If it had happened to me in my 20s and 30s I would have been terrible at handling it. I would have run off with Abi Titmuss or someone. It would have gone horribly wrong.'

Perhaps, then, this late blossoming is a blessing, given that even in relative obscurity he has struggled to control the ladies in his life. He may insist that his personal life is woefully lacking in scandal, compared to Craig's, but has had his own complicated dalliances with the fairer sex.
His first wife, Cherry was his childhood sweetheart, and - fatally - also his dancing partner.
It seems that Len didn't see much further than the elegant swish of her skirt.
'We did that classic dancer thing of getting involved with our dancing partners. Dancing brings you together, but you forget that you have to spend the rest of your lives together, too. Once you pack up dancing, you look across at her and think, "what am I doing with you?" and she thinks, "what am I doing with this silly sod". That's pretty much what happened with us.'

It ended very badly, with her running off with a Frenchman and him being told by his best friend. His reaction was to throw all her clothes onto the lawn of their home.
'It was hurt pride, pure and simple. If she'd told me, "look Len, I love somebody else", I would have handled it. I'd have still been annoyed, yes, but I would have got over it. You can't choose who you love in life.'
His second big relationship, to Lesley, came a cropper, too, but only after the birth of their son, James, in 1981. They never married although, curiously, Lesley did change her name to Goodman by deed poll. Why?
'I just didn't want to upset anyone. In those days, it wasn't the thing to have a child out of wedlock but, to be honest, neither of us wanted to get married.'
By this stage Len had moved into dance teaching and judging, travelling all over the country, sometimes the world, and pretty often forgetting that he had commitments back home. He confesses that his staying power in relationships was 'pretty awful'.
'The trouble with me is I fall in love very easily,' he says. 'And I suppose the flip side of that is that I fall out of love just as easily.'
There followed a turbulent time, with money worries and career frustrations. Through the Eighties, the dance school made him a living, but it was never lucrative. At one stage he ended up living in a poky flat above the dance studio, wondering where it had all gone wrong.
And then - not overnight, but it seems like it now - life started to sparkle again. When he was in his mid-50s he started a relationship with Sue, the woman who helped him run his dance school.
They hooked up just before Strictly went stratospheric, which he says has kept his feet on the ground, and his heart away from the Abi Titmusses of this world.
'I'd known Sue for years, but we were out at a function one night and I got chatting to her, and realised that I'd never really known her before. And she has a great smile. I'm a sucker for a nice smile.'
She doesn't tend to travel with him, though. When he heads to the States for filming, he tends to travel with fellow judge Bruno Tonioli, and the pair even stay in the same apartment block. Len manages to make them sound like Darby and Joan.

Darby and Joan: Len Goodman, right, in Dancing With The Stars and with fellow judge Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba

'I go round to Brunos because he can cook. In return, I do his ironing.'
Ironing? One of our most successful entertainment exports is doing the ironing of another?
'Oh yes, but not his underpants. I draw the line there.'
It gets funnier. I ask what Bruno cooks for these soirees a deux, and Len looks suddenly blank.
'You know, he chops up all bits of stuff and sticks it in. Actually, I really don't know what he does. He will get some chicken and make it into this thing, but he doesn't like vegetables. He only likes salads so he only has salad, but he won't have the two together. It's strange, isn't it? Folk are strange.'
Len, it's safe to assume, is more of a meat-and-two-veg man then?
'Oh yes,' he brightens. 'I like everything my nan used to cook. Stews and roast dinners and sausage and mash and jam roly poly, spotted dick, all that. I don't like that couscous - so good they named it twice.'
Gosh. Little wonder we love him. You know where you are with a man like Len Goodman.
As head honcho of the Strictly jury - the show returns to our screens next month - he is the one who makes the final call if there is a tie on the show. He is also the one least likely to make the contestants cry.
'Craig calls me Lenny Goody Goodman because I try to say something nice first on the programme, but I couldn't do it any other way.
'I don't like being nasty just for the sake of it. OK, some of the contestants are rubbish, but I always say something like, "you have very nice posture but unfortunately your hip work needs action", rather than "Oh God, what a lump".' Still, it's hard work being nice to people. He nods.
'I have a little book where I write down things as they come to me. I have a section for nice things, and a section for horrible things. The horrible bit is much longer.

Judgement Day: Strictly judges Craig Revel Horwood, Arlene Phillips, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli

The worst he can say about the last Strictly judge, Arlene Phillips - the show's resident sour-puss - is that she keeps herself to herself and is 'a bit tight'.
'She paid for a drink once and it was so unexpected that the rest of us gave her a round of applause.'
He is even nice about that legendary Strictly hoofer, Fiona Phillips. When he tells me that he could teach anyone to dance, there is only the slightest hesitation when I say: 'What, even Fiona?'
'Er, well, yes, given enough time. If she came to my normal classes with her husband and started off doing the most basic steps, then slowly, she would become a dancer. The trouble with the show is that you have to see results very fast, which is why people like Fiona get into trouble.'
Perhaps surprisingly, he isn't remotely precious about the ballroom dancing business, laughing to himself at all the implausible frocks and fake tans.
'It is daft, isn't it. Of course a lot of it is fake, but the heart of it isn't fake at all. That's why I love it. Even now, watching people, whether it is beginners at my dance school or celebs, get into it, gives me the greatest joy. They lose themselves in it, you see. Even people who don't expect to, they get gripped.
'That's what I love most about the success of Strictly. All this stuff that I knew about ballroom dancing anyway, well, the whole world knows it now.'
His dream Strictly contestants are, of course, the ones least likely to ever say yes.
'Simon Cowell!' he says, quickasyou-like, when I ask who he would kill to have on board. 'I'd love to get him doing the Cha Cha Cha. Wouldn't that be fun. And Stephen Fry - I think he is marvellous. Do you think he can move? The lovely thing about dance is you never can tell, until you see them take the first few steps. Then you know.'
He hasn't danced professionally since 1973 and, curiously, shrieks, 'oh no, never', when I ask him if he is first onto the dancefloor when a wedding band strikes up.
'I stopped dancing pretty much completely a while back when I caught sight myself in the mirror dancing with a pupil. You still think you are 26, in your head, don't you? But I saw myself that day and thought "Len, time to bow out".
'Now Strictly has blown it for me doing social stuff, too. At a wedding or function, if I get up there and start gliding about a bit, everyone else goes, "Oh, look at him - show off". Or else they say, "huh! He calls himself an expert, but he's not that great". So mostly I stay put.'
He's not the sort to be happy in the corner, though, I tease. Those eyes twinkle again. 'I might get up for a slow smoochy number, though, if pushed.' I bet he might.

STRICTLY Come Dancing stars are paid almost the MINIMUM WAGE by the BBC and had to STRIP in front of each other, we can reveal today.

The shocking backstage conditions endured by the moneyspinning hit show’s professional dancers will stun millions of its fans.

Spilling the series’ shabby secrets, fans’ favourite Nicole Cutler stormed: “The money was so bad we could have got almost the same at McDonald’s.”

Have Your Say: What do you think of BBC rip-off?
Sacked Strictly favourite Nicole has spoken out to expose the simmering backstage bitterness hidden behind the sequins and the glitz.
“It’s nothing like it looks on TV,” stormed the stunning dancer. “And it’s all the BBC’s fault.”
Nicole, who became a household name before she was cruelly axed revealed how professional dancers including big names Brendan Cole and Anton Du Beke were paid a paltry £6 AN HOUR while their celebrity partners, presenters and judges collected a fortune.
CLICK HERE FOR MORE SIZZLING PICS OF NICOLE

"The amount we got paid compared to the hours we actually put in rehearsing and performing meant we were on the minimum wage.” complained Nicole. “The money was so bad we could have got almost the same at McDonalds.
“But as long as there are dancers desperate to be on Strictly Come Dancing we’ll never be able to negotiate fees. If we rocked the boat too much they’d just get rid of us one by one.”
Former Latin American world champ Nicole, 36, also revealed backstage conditions so SHABBY male and female dancers were forced to STRIP in front of each other in a CORRIDOR before the shows because the cheapskate BBC wouldn’t give them dressing rooms.

Tantrums

She told how £450,000-a-year show host Bruce Forsyth is so DODDERY he couldn’t even REMEMBER the dancers’ names—and how his co-host Tess Daly and highly-paid judges ignore the dancers the minute the cameras stop running.

“The judges don’t talk to us and we have nothing to do with Tess or Bruce,” she said.

Added to this are the TEARS, TANTRUMS and BITTER FEUDING between the dancers themselves. “A lot have problems because we’ve had personal relationship breakdowns but we have to continue dancing together because it’s our job,” said Nicole. But the biggest problem during her three years on the show—which starts again on September 13—were the appalling working conditions and pay. In the last series she said dancers including Cole, her ex-husband Matthew Cutler and Flavia Cacace—calculated they were earning just a few pence more than the recently announced hourly minimum wage of £5.73.

They get £17,000 a series while the celebrities they dance with get £30,000—but do far less work.

Nicole—who wowed millions with her performances with stars Diarmuid Gavin, Nicholas Owen and John Barnes—said: “It seems hard to believe but with the hours we put in for last year’s show we were getting £6 an hour, which is only just above the minimum wage.

“For 25 weeks of the year the dancers have to give their entire life over to Strictly, we eat sleep and breathe it. We’re the only people involved in the show who work 16 hours a day, seven days a week.

“Sometimes it feels like we don’t have time to eat or sleep. We didn’t mind until they started asking us to do more and more and more.”

The dancers have to choreograph their routines, sort out the music and teach and rehearse the celebrities, often travelling long distances. Their astonishingly low pay is even more shocking because the BBC makes millions from the show each year by selling the format to other countries, including America. It is now one of BBC Worldwide’s main moneyspinners. Nicole—who was sacked by the BBC bosses because they said they couldn’t find her a partner—revealed the shoddy pay was matched only by their treatment behind the scenes.

She said: “We get changed together. There can be no room for embarrassment. We’ve got our tops off and the boys get it all off.

“There are no changing rooms. We just do it in a BBC corridor.”

And despite the cosy on-screen chats, there was no mingling allowed with show hosts Bruce and Tess, 37.

Nicole said Bruce—who works just a few hours a week for his £450,000 pay day—is treated like God on set but is so doddery he can’t remember the names of dancers he has been working with for five years.

She added: “He is 80 so when he forgets our names we do understand because he manages to keep it together on the live show. But it can be a bit embarrassing not knowing if he actually knows who you are.”

On screen Bruce’s co-host Tess, on £150,000 a series, is portrayed as a friend to both the celebrities and pro dancers, supporting them after their routines as they await the scores. But Nicole said as soon as a scene is over Tess becomes cold and makes no effort to mix with the dancers. She said: “In the three years of working on the show I never once had a conversation with Tess that wasn’t on camera.

“They make it look like she’s best mates with us all but she doesn’t talk to us off camera. She wouldn’t know what’s going on behind the scenes in a dance partnership.”

Nicole also told how there was a secret rule which means the controversial £90,000-a-series judges—Len Goodman, 66, Bruno Tonioli, 52, Arlene Phillips, 65, and Craig Revel Horwood, 41—are BANNED from mixing with the dancers or their partners.

“They’re kept very separate to us. They have very plush nice changing rooms upstairs while we’re kept away downstairs,” she said.

“Arlene is very icy, she’ll say very harsh things on the show and then not even be able to bring herself to look at you.

“Bruno is so dramatic and his craziness works. It’s not that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about but he’s not as knowledgeable as Len.”

She added that the one time she did run into bitchy judge Craig, he actually apologised for one of the nasty comments he’d made.

“Craig is a bit mean. He said some bad things about people on the show then pretended he hadn’t meant to be mean. But of course he meant it, it’s his character to be bitchy,” she said.

She revealed there’s also cattyness and tension between dancers because of their tangled relationships. “There are blazing rows in the studio at times,” she said.

Nicole Cutler on leaving Strictly Come Dancing
Nicole was involved in a bitter divorce from 34-year-old blond hunk Matthew Cutler five years ago but claimed they now get on and supported each other on the show. But last year Nicole she said she saw the relationship between fellow dancers Flavia Cacace, 28, and Vincent Simone, 29, crash and burn as Flavia started a relationship with her soap star partner Matt di Angelo, 21.

Nicole recalled: “It was horrible to watch. I saw Vincent slowly crumble as the series went on. He started out friends with Matt and then when he found out he couldn’t bring himself to talk to him.

“But things had been disintegrating between Vincent and Flavia long before Matt arrived on the scene.

“The boys just had to avoid each other. Vincent was with Flavia for 13 years. But they’re good friends again now she and Matt are over.”

Only one Strictly dance couple— James and Ola Jordan— remain happily married.

Nicole herself is good friends with show lothario Brendan Cole, 32, and said his long-term ex-girlfriend Camilla Dal- lerup, 34, acts like an ice queen behind the scenes, never partying with other dancers.

Nicole said: “We all knew Camilla very well but I know Brendan better so it was very awkward. You couldn’t be in the same room with them. There was no slapping or punching but a lot tension.” Nicole said Anton du Beke, 42, was the distinguished gentleman of the group, while Brendan and James were the “alpha males” always out to beat each other. “All the professionals on Strictly have competed against each other away from the show so there’s natural rivalry.

“Brendan and James have the most testosterone. They’ll constantly be doing press and sit ups. There’s a punch bag in the studio which they lay into and they hang from the rafters competing doing chin ups.”

Nicole said she was devastated when she found out she’d been dumped without being told by BBC bosses—despite getting ex-soccer star John Barnes, not a natural dancer, through eight weeks of last year’s show.

She said: “We receive our contracts in July and I knew Matthew had got his. A week passed, then a fortnight, and I still hadn’t got one.

Tears

“Eventually I had to call the bosses myself and they told me, ‘I’m afraid it’s bad news, we can’t find you a celebrity this year.’ I was in tears. It wasn’t a nice way to find out. The other dancers were upset too. It was a warning if they could fire me like that, the same thing could happen to them.”

She will be replaced this year by Kiwi dancer Hayley Holt, 27. Nicole is now dating Surrey cricketer Jonathan Batty, 34, and focusing on life after Strictly.

But she is sad about missing out on getting a new Strictly partner: “I’d love to come back and do the show again. It’ll be extremely hard to watch it and not be part of it.”

so excited about the line-up!

who do people think will do well this year? My money is on Rachel Stevens, Christine Bleakley and Jodie Kidd. None of the blokes seem to have much potential apart from the guy from Holby City. Although saying that, there are a few sportsmen who may come good.

who to go out first? My money is on John Sargeant.

Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli has posed naked to raise awareness for the Everyman male cancer campaign.

The revealing picture appears in the October edition of Cosmopolitan magazine, which goes on sale on September 11.

Tonioli, 52, posed alongside Strictly professional Camilla Dallerup, who is seen protecting his modesty with a scoring paddle.

He predicted that his fellow judges will tease him mercilessly when they see the picture, saying: "I'm sure they'll take the p**s when they see this, but they're just jealous.

"Actually, Len [Goodman] flashed me once and it put me off my food for the rest of the day. I still haven't recovered!"

FURIOUS Strictly Come Dancing star Jessie Wallace claims fellow contestant Lisa Snowdon is getting the sexiest outfits.

The fiery ex-EastEnder shed weight especially for the series, and planned to show off her hot new body in super-skimpy costumes.

But the actress, 36, has complained that model Lisa, 36 — George Clooney’s ex — is getting all the most revealing outfits. A show insider said: “Jessie has griped that Lisa is getting the best costumes.

“She says just because Lisa was a model that does not mean that she should get preferential treatment.”

Meanwhile, former S Club babe Rachel Stevens, 30 — appearing on the BBC1 hit kicking off on Saturday — is also complaining about costumes.

SIZZLING Strictly Come Dancing beauty Rachel Stevens has sent ballroom bosses into a spin by refusing to wear skimpy outfits.

The lads’ mag favourite, 30, was expected to send male viewers’ temperatures soaring by peeling off in saucy costumes.

But the former S Club singer has announced that she prefers to stick to long, floaty numbers that cover up her famous figure.

She told TV Biz: “I went for a fitting the other day and they want me to wear this two-piece.

“I was like, ‘Give me a break!’”

The pop star added she would prefer to be “eased in” with more modest looks first.

She added: “I can’t wait to look like a real princess.”

Ironically, fellow contestant Jessie Wallace, 36, has complained that her outfits are not skimpy enough.

Our Strictly spies tell us that Rachel, who has just got engaged to former Family Affairs actor Alex Bourne, 31, is doing brilliantly in rehearsals with her partner Vincent Simone, 29.

And it seems that the pair are already getting friendly, as Rachel has nicknamed Vincent the “Italian Stallion”.

The pro split from co-star Flavia Cacace, 28, in December after being lovers for a decade.

A show source said: “Rachel and Vincent are getting on really well.

“Vincent has well and truly bounced back from his split from Flavia, Rachel has obviously left him hot under the collar as he looks like the cat that’s got the cream — he keeps winking in front of the camera!”

Fellow contestant Austin Healey, 34, the rugby ace, is also said to be one to watch.

However, former tennis player-turned-GMTV host Andrew Castle, 44, seems to be one-love down as his ball skills have not translated to the ballroom.

Our insider said: “Andrew is a fine figure of a man, but he hasn’t quite mastered his dance steps yet.

“It seems the curse of GMTV has struck again — first Fiona Phillips had to be dragged around the dancefloor like a limp puppet by Brendan Cole, then Kate Garraway tried her best last year, bless her, and Andrew hardly seems like Wayne Sleep.”

But that didn’t seem to put off cheeky Strictly judge Len Goodman, 64, as he told Andrew on the GMTV couch yesterday: “Andrew — you’ve got so many things that I never had. Look at your physique, look at the looks, the full head of hair.

“I followed you up a corridor — you’ve got a natural hip-action. I was glued to your buttocks.”

Strictly kicks off with a preview show on BBC1 at 6.30pm this Saturday, and the series gets going properly the following week.

I swear the scores the judges give the groups are a fix... most of the time they'd ascend over 3 judges and then the 4th goes down by 1.

Don't think Phil Daniels will be in it very long.. it just looked as if it was kind of forced to me, particularly on the replay.

First lot were my favourite tonight I think.

Phil looked in real pain on Saturday night, he was not enjoying it at all. Austin looks as if he will do really well with Erin, and by watching the female celebrities Anton du Beke has been landed with another duffer with Gillian Taylforth.

On this week's Strictly Come Dancing, Gillian Taylforth and Jodie Kidd were voted into the bottom two by the public. After the dance-off the judges unanimously decided that Taylforth and her professional partner Anton du Beke were the weakest, making them the second pairing to be axed from the series. We gave Anton a call to find out how's he feeling about his early exit.

Hi Anton! How are you feeling after a couple of days of reflection?
"Well, I'm still slightly upset. I'm still slightly disappointed. 'Disappointed' is the word."

And how did Gillian respond?
"She was really disappointed as well! Which is nice from my perspective because she was really enjoying it, really wanting to learn it, and wanting to do well. For me personally, as a partner and teacher, it's a lovely thing if they enjoy the experience."

Gillian's probably a stronger dancer than some of your former partners, but they got further in the competition. Why do you think that is?
"It all depends on who is around you really. This year, there is a particularly good bunch of girls. Or at least, a bunch of girls that danced well. They all performed marvellously. You can't do much about that unfortunately and you just have to do your own thing."

Do you find it hard to keep your thoughts to yourself when your partner gets criticised?
"It depends. Last year, when I was working with Kate (Garraway), I thought they were unnecessarily harsh and wrong on lots of occasions. I felt that I had to respond to that. This year, they were fair enough, so I can't have any complaints."

What did you think of Jodie and Ian's performance in the dance-off? Do you think they improved?
"They danced very nicely. I wasn't unhappy about being knocked out to them. I'd rather lose to them because they performed well. They danced beautifully. Jodie will struggle with some of the dances in the future because she's so tall."

Why do you think the public decided to keep Jessie Wallace after the judges voted her bottom?
"Oh, I don't know. I can never answer that question. The people at home, who vote on the show, do it because they love it, and they have their own reasons. I don't mind the people at home voting for whoever they vote for because it's part of the show. There are just four judges in the studio, but there are thousands at home, all with their own opinion, which is great."

Who do you think has the potential to go on and win the show?
"Well, I was enormously impressed by Austin Healey's waltz last week. I also thought Tom Chambers' cha-cha was good. Then this week, I think a lot of the girls were really good. The girls are going to be the ones to watch."

A lot of your fans get frustrated that you don't get given stronger dancers. Do you get annoyed?
"You never know who's going to do what though until you get them in the studio. There's no rhyme or reason why anyone should be good or bad. Unless they have one leg shorter than the other, you can't tell. I don't really know how someone can choose me a good partner. Unless it's Darcy Bussell. That's what people should be voting for: Darcy Bussell with Anton du Beke. We should get that campaign going."

But do you not look at someone like Rachel Stevens and think, 'Why didn't I get her?'
"She's too short for me, Rachel. She's lovely and everything, but she's about 4'8" or something, so I wouldn't be able to dance with her. It's a shame."

People on the DS forums have suggested that you could replace Bruce Forsyth as the presenter. Are you interested?
"Do you know, I think there's no show without Brucie. Bruce is the show. He's my hero. I can't imagine doing Strictly without him. It's lovely that people say these things, it's a lovely compliment, but Bruce Forsyth is the king. Long live the king!"

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6.45pm on BBC One

The ex-Texas singer wants to show off her smooth moves on the celeb reality show.

But she doesn’t want to tango or mambo. Sharleen, 40, said: “I used to do Northern Soul dancing and I really want Bruce to get me on.

I totally agree with who has gone and who are in the bottom two (you can find out if you look lol) There are some that are a total cut above the rest and those that are no where near.

Wasn't Cherie absolutely fabulous though! I loved her rumba! I had shivers going through me through the entire dance - it was totally fantastic and if I look half as good at her age as she does, I'll be a very happy woman (but its not likely lol)

Christine - she was great.

I honestly didn't enjoy the quicksteps as much as I did the rumba's this week, but apart from maybe 3 of the ladies, I loved all of their dances and you could tell they had been working hard.

I did notice a huge difference in the judges marks though - in respect of the boys getting pretty good marks and the girls not so good.

Still, back to boys v girls next week :cheer:

STRICTLY Come Dancing loser Jessie Wallace fled the set in tears and refused to film the results show after coming last, TV Biz can reveal.

The ex-EastEnder, 37, was devastated after finding herself bottom of the leader board on Saturday night’s live show.

She scored just 19 points out of a possible 40 for her quickstep — with judge Arlene Phillips describing her awkward moves as more suited to the football pitch than the dance floor.

After the pasting, the distraught actress broke down and insisted she did not want to record the results show, which was broadcast last night.

A show source revealed: “Jessie started crying when she went backstage after her performance. She was really disappointed with herself, and the judges’ comments.

“After the live show ended, she went outside to get some fresh air and there were more tears. She kept saying, ‘I haven’t done enough to stay’.

“Producers then had to go after her and persuade her to come back inside to film the results show.”

The results programme shown on Sunday is pre-recorded after the live show on Saturday — and eventually Jessie was persuaded to take part. It saw the actress and her partner Darren Bennett join singer Heather Small, 43, and her pro dancer Brian Fortuna in a dance-off for survival. They were the two acts to score lowest in the combined viewers votes’ and judges’ scores.

But after the two couples had danced again, Jessie’s worst fears were realised when the BBC1 ballroom hit’s judges ruled she should get the boot.

Our source said: “When Jessie didn’t get the judges’ vote, she was so upset.”

The actress — who played fiery Kat Slater in the BBC1 soap — had been bookies’ favourite for the chop. She is the third former EastEnders star to leave the show after Phil Daniels, 49, in Week One and Gillian Taylforth, 53, in Week Two.

After her quickstep routine on Saturday, disappointed judge Arlene Phillips told the hopeful: “This dance needs a sporty delivery and sometimes you got that and you looked like you were on the dance floor — and other times you looked like you were on the football field.”

The choreographer added: “When you were doing those two kicks it was like ‘Help, help’ — that was not good.”

Ignoring her growing distress, Arlene, 64, continued: “You have got to make sure that you are ruling your shoes and not your shoes ruling your feet.”

Head judge Len Goodman, 64, added: “Your bosom was pushing on him and that made your bottom stick out — you’ve got to tuck that under and get your bosom away from Darren.”

But Jessie was not alone in weeping after the Saturday show — fellow contestants Jodie Kidd, 30, and Christine Bleakley, 29, were also in a bad way after being disappointed by their performances.

Our source said: “You couldn’t move for waterworks. Both Jodie and Christine were sobbing, thinking they were going.”

But after the dance-off on the results show, three of the judges voted for Jessie to go, leaving only Len in disagreement.

He said: “I thought Jessie and Darren improved the most during that performance.”

Jessie had pulled herself round by now and even tried to smile. She said: “I wish it could have been longer but that’s the game.

“I’ve had a wicked time — Darren’s brilliant.”

Strictly come off it, Brendan: Shoot called off over Cole's diva demands

On the dancefloor he tends to get what he wants.

But now it seems Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole has started to adopt the same attitude off-screen.
The 32-year-old is said to have threatened to pull out of a photoshoot unless organisers gave in to certain demands.

A source revealed: 'Brendan was asked if he would like a blue Ferrari 360 Spider for the weekend, on the understanding that he then did a photoshoot for luxury car club Marque 2, which deals with the likes of Ferrari's, Jags and other fast cars - so he definitely had a good time.

'Diva demands': Brendan Cole, with dance partner Lisa Snowdon earlier this month, wanted a £5,000 luxury car club membership

'But when it came to sorting out details of the shoot, he threatened to pull out of the agreement unless he was given a year's membership to the luxury car club, which is worth £5,000.

'Strictly Come Dancing is now back on the screens and he believes that his profile has been raised since their initial discussion, so any pictures involving him would be worth more.

'Organisers were left shocked and so refused his demands.'

Ready to rumba: Brendan is known for getting what he wants on the dance floor

Last year, Brendan was partnered with Kelly Brook on the popular TV show.

But it was his partnership the year before with newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky that attracted all the attention.

Speculation of a budding romance was rife after their obvious on-screen chemistry coincided with his high-profile split from his fiancée Camilla Dellerup.

Natasha hit out against claims that she was in love with the New Zealand-born dancer, denying any suggestion of an affair.

But just to be on the safe side Brendan's new girlfriend, 26-year-old model Zoe Hobbs, has reportedly sat in on rehearsal sessions with his current dance partner Lisa Snowdon.

Len Goodman is considering leaving Strictly Come Dancing in favour of the US version of the TV show, while host Bruce Forsyth denies he's quitting.

Len, 64, is currently flying between London and Los Angeles every week to work on both Strictly and Dancing With The Stars, and it seems the long and frequent journeys are taking their toll.

"The jet lag takes it toll," he told News of the World. "I wasn't going to do it this year - the flying backwards and forwards - but I got talked into it again. But this will probably be the last time. I'll have to make the decision, if they ask me, whether to do the British show or American show.

"My heart wants to do the British show, but my head, the money, makes me want to do the American one."

The Sunday tabloid claimed Len received 90,000 pounds from the BBC for Strictly after a 30,000-pound pay rise, but he gets 250,000 pounds for Dancing With The Stars.

Meanwhile, the BBC has denied that Strictly host Bruce Forsyth, 81, is walking out. It had been claimed in newspaper reports that the presenter was planning to leave with 'dignity'.

But the BBC said: 'It is not true Bruce has not quit Strictly Come Dancing. We adore him and love having him as an integral part of the show."

Brucie's manager Ian Wilson added: "The story is not true and it is being put in the hands of our solicitors [on Monday] morning."

Len Goodman has refuted newspaper claims that he will quit Strictly Come Dancing to work in the US.

The 64-year-old judge, who splits his time between judging Strictly and its American counterpart Dancing With The Stars, reportedly said: "The jet-lag takes it toll... I'll have to make the decision - if they ask me - whether to do the British show or American show."

However, when quizzed by It Takes Two host Claudia Winkleman if he was planning to leave the show, Goodman said: "I will be doing the next series. If the BBC asks me to do it, of course I’ll do it."

Winkleman claimed that she "wept into my cornflakes" after reading the rumours of Goodman's departure, insisting that she would walk out on hosting the spinoff show if the judge didn't return for the next series.

Goodman joked: "I would hate it if I was sitting at home and you were doing the masterclass with someone else. Of course I'll be there [next series]."

Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole has revealed that, despite his reputation as a ladies man, he has never been unfaithful to a partner.
However the 32-year-old, who has formed a strong bond with his latest dance partner model and presenter Lisa Snowdon, says that many of his previous girlfriend’s have cheated on him.
'Most people don’t believe that, but it is true. I've been cheated on many times but I haven’t cheated,’ says the New Zealander in an interview with Star magazine.

Cole has been dating British model Zoe Hobbs since March and the 26-year-old appears to have tamed the star, who has been previously been linked with Abi Titmuss and newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky.

‘I've felt this deeply about someone only once, maybe twice before,’ he said earlier this year.

Strictly Come Dancing star Tom Chambers could miss out on Saturday's live show after injuring himself in training.

The Holby City actor badly hurt his shoulder and arm on Monday after smashing into a wall during a difficult move, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

As the pain worsened overnight, Tom was forced to consult a doctor on Tuesday.

A source said: "He was left in terrible pain and his first thought was that he had dislocated his shoulder.

"Tom just hopes that it gets better and he can compete in Saturday's show. To miss out would be gutting."

Tom's injury occurred as he and his professional partner Camilla Dallerup practised the quick step.

The source explained: "They were dancing really quickly when Camilla tripped on Tom's trousers. Camilla fell into the wall but Tom pushed himself in the way to stop her hurting herself and took the full impact.

"Camilla's so thankful that Tom broke her fall but she feels really sorry for him because he's really hurt himself."

One of my favourite bits is the judges score when Len shouts SEVEN and Bruno just goes into fits of laughter. There's not many guys left in the competition so Heather may go this week and John could survive another week. It depens what dance they are doing.

Lisa and Brendan were my favourite performance of the night - I loved their dance. It was so engaging and passionate.

Also liked Christine again - she made the jive really lively and exciting and I thought it was better than Rachel's version of it.

John really is bad bless him :D Craig gave him a 1. :o that is embarrasing! The opening for the dance was so cheesy though and he was walking all the way through the dance, instead of doing any dancing! I do think he will be going tomorrow.

Jodie wasn't as good as last week, so I think she could be in the dance off with John.

Hi Abbie, I totally agree with you John is no longer funny or endearing. Did you hear him on It Takes Two last night? He told Craig that if he didn't like the fact that he was still on the show, he should reconsider his position! I think he's getting too big for his boots now and he should definitiely go next week. I also don't like the fact that if he is in the bottom 2 he has said that he won't do the dance-off.

Jojo
11-11-2008, 14:51
I think the thing that annoys me the most about John is that he does the least amount of training, spends most of that reading the paper or on the phone and even his dance partner admits that he doesn't know the steps!!! I mean come on!!! Its a dance contest!

Good on him for losing 2 stone, but its so not on for the other dancers that are training as hard as they can and learning the steps for their dances, only for Mr Sergeant to do whatever (stomp, walk etc) and not end up in the dance off. Come on Joe Public - lets get real!!

Bry - I have to say, I don't find him the least bit entertaining! He is the most arrogant, self opinionated person I have ever seen on the telly, telling Tess week in week out that "his public" will save him, so he's never worried.

Its time he went - if he doesn't this week, he could spell the end of Strictly Come Dancing - lets face it - who would want to take part after seeing this farce going on!

Tuareet
11-11-2008, 15:05
It will turn into a complete farce if John doesn't go this week! I know Jodie isn't as good as Tom, Austin, Rachel, Cherie etc but she is leaps and bounds better than John and is brilliant at ballroom.

I quite like John. It's only a TV show, and he probably knows that, hence why he's not taking it too seriously. And he did really well in the first few dances, i keep hoping he will go back to those kinds of dances. It's not his fault he gets saved by the public every week, theres no need to so defamatory about him.

Plus everyone else who has left so far has been awfull. So its hardly a farce that he's still there.

STRICTLY judges were fuming last night after favourite Cherie Lunghi was given the boot — and John Sergeant got to waltz another day.

The chubby 64-year-old political journalist and partner Kristina Rihanoff were bottom of the scoring on Saturday with 25 points for their American Smooth.

Cherie had been praised for her “breakthrough” cha-cha- cha with partner James Jordan and even hard-to-please Craig Revel Horwood told her she was “magnificent to watch”.

The pair got 32 points. But John and Kristina still sailed through to next week’s show thanks to a wave of public support, leaving Cherie and James and Lisa Snowdon and her partner Brendan Cole in last night’s dance-off.

Head judge Len Goodman was horrified at having to make the casting vote between Cherie, 56, and Lisa, 37.

He said: “I feel terrible. Neither should be going. But for me the couple that edged it were Lisa and Brendan.”

Arlene Phillips said: “It’s hard to say goodbye to people who danced better than John. Maybe the public don’t care because they’re having a laugh.”

John is now set to earn £1million on TV. A source close to him said: “We’ve been contacted over a number of new shows.”

THE X Factor won Saturday’s ratings war with 11.8million viewers to Strictly Come Dancing’s 10.6million.

Every year there is this with good dancers going out and terrible dancers remaining in the competition. The reason being the Beeb are signing up these celebritiies and next year we will be discussing someone else. I can understand James Jordan asking the public to vote for the better dancers, but we still have Bruce and Tess asking the public to vote for their favourite couple. And that is what the public is doing. Rachel and Cherie don't have a huge fan base, although they were good dancers they're not entertaining it was the same with Aleehsa Dixon and Louisa Lynton you knew they were not going to give a bad dance so it was boring. In John defence yes he is a terrible dancer he admits that but he is putting the same hours of training and committment as the others so the media need to think about his feelings.

SCD is an entertainment programme it's not like the X Factor where it's going to change someone's life forever, the celebs taking part are there to boost their profile. If the judges don't want to see their favourite dancers exit the show then they should consider this when they are recruiting celebs. As long as Bruce and Tess are asking viewers to vote for their favourite couple then the public are going to vote John and Kristina.

Debs
18-11-2008, 11:32

The producers knew when he was asked to take part, he wouldn't be able to dance, so he was the Fiona Phillips/Kate Garraway of 2008 - now they have to deal with it, He can't dance I admit but he is still there because he is being voted for. The judges caused this with their slating of him week in, week out, the public love the underdog. On another side, I thought it really interesting Rachel coming out almost naked this week, after being in the final 2 last week. She started off so prim and proper and now pull out all the stops to stay in - she is the one contestant I don't like, smug and desperate to win.

Debs

How would the producers KNOW he wouldnt be able to dance??? I mean he could have come out week one after weeks of practice and been fantastic, i dont think anyone could look at someone and say oh he wont dance well, lets book him

Ive seen skimpier outfits on there. Isnt that the idea, those dresses are meant to be tiny and why not, if i had a figure like hers id show it off too! Plus the rumba is the dance of love, its supposed to be a bit sexy and her dress complimented that

i dont see her as smug, i think she just loves what she is doing at the mo and really wants to stay in!

It's true! John has left, just copied this from the BBC website!!

Former political journalist John Sergeant has decided to pull out of the BBC One show Strictly Come Dancing.

The 64-year-old has received strong support from the public since the show started, but the judges have been critical of his dancing.

In a statement, he said: "The trouble is that there is now a real danger that I might win the competition. Even for me that would be a joke too far."

It has been announced he will return on Saturday's show for a final dance.

Strictly judge Arlene Phillips said: "I'm always sad if a contestant leaves of choice, because you are always expecting to let the public vote them in or out - but John is his own person and he has his own reasons for doing this.

It was always my intention to have fun on the show and I was hoping to stay in as long as possiblee

John Sergeant
When asked if she felt responsible for his departure, she said: "Not really. If you look back, we've actually been quite nice on this programme."

Phillips pointed out it was not been the first time a weak dancer had been backed by the public over the professionals.

And she admitted Sergeant had provided many "funny, funny moments".

She added: "Last week's performance was an improved performance. There wasn't a judge who didn't say that."

In his statement, Sergeant, who was partnered with Russian dancer Kristina Rihanoff said: "I am sorry to say I have decided to leave Strictly Come Dancing.

"It was always my intention to have fun on the show and I was hoping to stay in as long as possible."

The former journalist said he would like "thank Kristina and all those viewers who have been rooting for me through the series".

BBC One controller Jay Hunt added: "We are very sad to see him go." :cheer:

Acid-tongued Arlene Phillips last night launched a savage attack on “dancing pig in Cuban heels” John Sergeant.

She claimed Strictly Come Dancing’s “lazy” and hopeless hoofer fooled around and read the paper instead of training for the BBC1 show.

Arlene, 64, turned up the heat on the ex-political pundit, hated by the judges but loved by the public, who have constantly saved him from the chop.

She raged: “There is nothing that is correct about his performance. He is just getting through the dances.

“In terms of dance, everything is wrong with it – his posture, his movement, the position of his head. When the celebs put in hours in the practice studio they are constantly working.

“They do not sit down but I know John is not making much effort. He just sits there and reads the paper. A lot of the time he and his dance partner spend fooling around.

“If it’s all about personality why don’t the girls just all throw off their clothes and the boys do a comedy dance. Is that going to help?”

Arlene and her fellow judges fear John’s continuing presence in the show threatens to turn it into a farce. They have been desperate to vote off John, 64, and his Russian partner Kristina Rhinaoff, 29.

But despite coming bottom of the judges’ votes week after week, the couple are saved by the public vote.

Many male fans are voting to keep in sexy Kristina.

But John’s escape from the axe has helped ratings, which were well over 10million last weekend.

John, who has shed two stone during the show, has been dubbed the “dancing pig in Cuban heels”.

On Saturday Arlene sneered after seeing his American Smooth: “It was more Mickey Rooney than Fred Astaire.”

But John has accused the judges of being out of touch with viewers and called on them to resign because they do not understand the rules.

He said: “The judges have 50% of the votes and the public have the other 50%.”

Whats gonna happen though? will it finish a week early?

no, strictly always schedule to have three people in the final. we've had jimmy tarbuck and kelly brook drop out over the last two years, which has why there's been only 2 people in the final. which will now happen again this year now joh's gone.

i am quite sad about this actually, but it did frustrate me that people were keeping him in when it was beyond a joke.

Debs

hmm shame he felt he had to leave, i certainly didnt want him to quit, but in another way at least now he has gone, this week one of my faves wont go when he stays!!

i really didnt expect him to quit, he didnt seem a quitter

I'm disapointed that John has decided to quit. The judges should be ashamed of themselves on the treatment he has received. John would never had reached the final he would have went this week or next. The public voted him in each week to wind up the judges.Yes he was a bad dancer but he was entertaining John took part to raise money for charity and to have a laugh not to try and bag a job because all his teeny-bopper fans have all grown up and nobody likes them no more like Rachel Stevens. It's Louisa Lyntton all over again, well the public are going to have the last laugh because come Saturday the judges are going to have to boot out one of their favourites as I bet Rachel and Lisa will be in the bottom two. Maybe the judges will have a good long look at themselves and next year when new celebrities taking part they think long and hard who they want to enter as the public will vote for the two-left footied celeb everytime.

I just saw It Takes Two on iPlayer and John S. said someone phoned his wife and said John should apologise to Heather (for getting voted off). I guess it was getting too crazy in the end, and this contributed to him deciding to leave. BTW I still find him annoying even though he's not on SCD anymore :D

21-11-2008, 13:44
Funny how he is boarding a cruise ship next week for prebooked speeches. Ok, so he probably thought he'd have been voted out by now but still.

And you can't tell by looking at someone as whether they can dance or not. If I looked at Bruce or Len, without knowing they could dance, I'd probably say they couldn't and they can. Same goes for anyone really.

What did James say??

LostVoodoo
21-11-2008, 15:12
he went off into this bitter tirade about john making the series all about him and that he was selfish by dropping out. he said he didn't mind about being kicked out with Cherie but he blatantly does!

Jojo
22-11-2008, 08:58
Of course he minded.

I'm glad that John has walked, but I certainly wouldn't say he's being selfish and making it all about himself. I think he's done the right thing and for James to go into a tirade about it, is just going to make himself look ridiculous.

Don't like Rachel I'm afraid. Going off Austin a little too.

I think Tom keeps getting a little underrated by the judges - Arlene was totally singing his tango praises etc but then gave a 9 - I thought, it was far better than Austins dance.

I really like Lisa - not necessarily as a person as I don't know her, but I would have loved for her or Jodie to go most if not all of the way as I think they've had such a journey. I think its very difficult to distinguish between them this year really, but I would love for Lisa and Brendan to get to the final, as I would Tom and Camilla too (And for them to then win :D )

Austin Healey has revealed his apprehension at performing twice on this week's Strictly Come Dancing.

The rugby player admitted that the prospect of dancing both the Paso Doble and Foxtrot on Saturday is worrying him. He said that while the Paso appeals to his aggressive nature, the Foxtrot is a "charming, slow" dance.

"I'm worried about doing two dances," he told Claudia Winkleman on It Takes Two.

Healey and dance partner Erin Boag received 35 out of 40 for their Cha Cha Cha on last week's show, but admitted that they were sure they would end up in the dance-off.

"I went into pre-match mode. I was convinced we were in the dance-off," said Healey.

Boag added: "I was petrified. I was nervous, and I knew very well that we could be in the bottom two."

The pair also congratulated Rachel Stevens and Vincent Simone on picking up the first perfect score of the series last week.

Boag said she was "very happy" for them, while Healey revealed that he "[wished] it was us".

I don't like Rachel either. It's just like when Louisa and Aleesha were in SCD the judges loved them and they couldn't do no wrong, even when they did miss a step they still got rewarded a 9 for it. I would have preferred Jodi to win above everyone else as to me the winner should be someone who progresses everyweek from getting 5 and 6 right up to a 9 or 10 not someone who can get awarded 9's on their first week. since Jodi has now gone Lisa is my choice to win she has had a tough couple of weeks. If not her then Austin.

STRICTLY bosses snubbed an offer to have John Sergeant on the Christmas special.

The fans’ favourite, 64, who quit in a row about his talent, will return for the series finale.

But journo John’s offer to appear on the festive show with partner Kristina Rihanoff went down like a lead balloon with producers still fuming over his exit.

They claimed they would not change the format — which sees three former champions dance against the final three current contestants. But they are letting Kelly Brook dance — despite her quitting last year after her dad died.

A BBC source said: “The only way a contestant from this series can be involved in the Christmas special is if they make it to the last three couples. We have already got our line-up sorted.”

austin is starting to annoy me, it seems like he automatically believes he will get through every week. he'll have a bad dance but he never seems scared that he'll go out, whereas poor tom seems to have freaked himself out. and i did not like that paso, there was about 2 seconds in hold and the rest of it was just stamping feet and waving arms. even a cape would have made it better!

christine needs to go, as lovely as she is she just isn't good enough anymore. hurrah for Lisa being at the top of the leader board, she totally deserved it and that cha cha was amazing.

Rachel doesn't look as if she has the public support - 2nd time in dance off. Professional dancers on Strictly Come Dancing are reportedly fearing for their jobs amid talks of a shake up to next year's show.

The seasoned pros on the BBC contest have been unsettled by the popularity of newcomers Brian Fortuna, Hayley Holt and Kristina Rihanoff, according to The Sun.

An insider said: "Everyone's scared they're for the high jump. It's making things really unpleasant backstage. There's a feeling the established stars were resting on their laurels.

"Brian and Hayley have brought a new sparkle - and no-one could have guessed how popular Kristina would be. No-one's announced changes officially but dancers are only contracted per series. It's a lot of pressure to be under."

Christine Bleakley became the latest celebrity to be eliminated from the show at the weekend, losing the dance-off to Rachel Stevens.

indeed, exactly like she did with Colin Jackson! god that paso last week was awful. if they'd done a good American Smooth then they could have competed with Lisa in the dance-off because they are as good as each other at ballroom. but they were stuck with that salsa instead.

I say every year I'm not watching it again but I can't help myself I get sucked in. If Rachel does win next Saturday then it is a fix just like last year, the winner should be the celebritity who has progressed the most throughout the competition and for me it was either Lisa or Jodi. As much as John was entertaining bless him he did have two left feet. If this competition is to be judged fairly then Lisa has to win she has fought tooth and nail to get this far, she has had no prior dance tutition unlike Rachel and Tom.

To mean Im not fussed on her, I know she has imporved but I still havent seen her dance that made me go wow or anything close to that

Rachel to be in very good and I mean her rumba I adored, I think shes ben a quiet one up until that dance so its not like she was amazing from the beginning, to be she appeared to be great after the rumba, whereas tom has sorta been good from the beginning
Now you cant compare Rachel to Aleesha cos Aleesha was great from the start and throughout being on top and stuff like that, whereas Rcahel has doen it from half way through

What a cop out, those judges will do anything to get Rachel in the final. Why not just give her the flaming trophy now instead of moving the goalpost, there is supposed to be three in the final but last year when Kellly withdrew because of her father's death they only had two couples and it should have been down to two this year with John Sargent leaving, so how come they couldn't bend the rules last year.

The Strictly Come Dancing semi-finalists attempted the Argentine Tango and a dance of their choice in Week 13 as they battled for a place in the final.

Here's what the judges had to say:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lisa and Brendan - Argentine Tango

Len: "I'll tell you what, I loved the start on the stage. I thought the whole thing had an intensity, I thought it was great dancing and I absolutely loved it." [10]

Bruno: "Absolutely on the money performance-wise, but some of the intricate footwork was not quite as precise as it should have been." [9]

Craig: "I liked the spiky nature of it, and the passion that was in there. I thought the performance and the choreography were excellent." [8]

Arlene: "For a new dance [for] both of you, well done!" [8]

Total - 35

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tom and Camilla - Jive

Craig: "They started to get a little bit lazy towards the end, sadly. The energy started dropping as well, so they just lost a little control. I'm going to be honest, I wasn't thrilled by the routine itself, I think it just let you down ever so slightly and didn't show you off to your full potential." [8]

Arlene: "In terms of energy, it was more exciting than the 50% off sale at Woolworths. You went for it all guns blazing, but the Jive should be like a heartbeat that never stops and yours slowed down." [8]

Len: "I thought it had fun, it had energy, I loved some of the choreography. Overall, Tom, it was brilliant, well done." [9]

Bruno: "Tom, could this be your Waterloo? The thing is, you got a bit loose and you lost a bit of control." [8]

Total - 33

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rachel and Vincent - Argentine Tango

Arlene: "This dance is all about longing and yearning, and when you look at Vincent's eyes, your eyes never left each other. And if legs could talk, they'd be telling so many secrets." [10]

Len: "For me, it was a technical tour de force. I felt it could have done with a little bit more of a dramatic edge, but it was very, very good." [10]

Bruno: "I couldn't see where Rachel started and where Vincent started. The sequences were so difficult and executed with such finesse and ease, it was superb." [10]

Craig: "What is difficult about this dance is maintaining that connection and stillness of the upper body while the downstairs is going mad, and you did that absolutely brilliantly." [9]

Total - 39

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lisa and Brendan - Quickstep

Len: "Not only did it have body contact, you maintained the movement. You have produced two fantastic dances." [10]

Bruno: "You moved around the dancefloor with the radiance and light of a shooting star." [10]

Craig: "It was fabulous, I loved it!" [10]

Arlene: "You mastered the Quickstep. Lisa, you've come a long way, baby." [10]

Total - 40 [75]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tom and Camilla - Argentine Tango

Bruno: "Well played, Tom, you went for performance and you got it right." [9]

Craig: "Camilla, it was very wise of you to use Tom's acting experience for this. For me it was a little bit of a matter of style over substance, but I loved the routine. It was controlled and very believable." [8]

Arlene: "There was a lot of story. It was like moving through Mercury, and that you did." [8]

Len: "I find this a very hard dance to judge. The acting was great. It could have done with a little bit more intricacy in the feet, but other than that I thought it was wonderful." [9]

Total - 34 [67]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rachel and Vincent - American Smooth

Arlene: "If ever there's a return to Hollywood movies, Rachel is our Ginger Rogers. Rachel puts the Rs into rapture and romance." [9]

Len: "As a performance I liked it very much, but for me, that wasn't a Foxtrot. It was just wandering around, doing steps." [8]

Bruno: "For me, it had the quality of the most beautiful dream. You've always been a great dancer, for me you've become a great performer as well." [10]

Craig: "Don't listen to Len, this is an American Smooth and you can do whatever you like. It was gorgeous and I loved it." [9]

Total - 36 [75]

ok the voting thing now makes sense to me. the reason they carried them over was because Tom was gauranteed to go in the bottom 2 and people had already paid to vote to save him. it makes sense now, bit of a screw up on the BBC's side of things, but a nice and simple way to resolve it.

Bruce Forsyth has insisted that he will not quit Strictly Come Dancing in the near future.

The 80-year-old, who hosts the show with Tess Daly, said that he will not give up the job despite the tough schedule.

"On a Saturday I'm in the studio for 12 hours. From a TV point of view, that's a week's work in one day. So I pace myself the rest of the week," he told The Mirror.

"I spend all day Sunday in bed. I have a long lie-in, get up for lunch, go back to bed and watch a bit of football, then I get up for a bit of supper. It's all I can do. I rest a lot, I stay in bed a long time because if I do that I know I can get through it."

However, Forsyth conceded that he will not be presenting the popular show forever, saying: "One day I think I am going to wake up, hopefully, and say to myself: 'Do I really want to do this anymore?' I think that's how it will hit me.

"I know in my heart that I'm working pretty well at the moment, but I wouldn't want to die on stage like Tommy Cooper.

"If I'd like to die anywhere it would be on a golf course like Bing Crosby."

If it takes him all Sunday to recover, perhaps he should quit

Well no, not really.
Cos loads of couples have been at the bottom and then not been in the bottom 2

I think its nice what theyve done, they said there would be 3 in the final and there is :D
