View Full Version : Strictly Come Dancing 2008
Im still reeling over Austin not being there
Like Rachel, but im not overly keen on her winning.
I want Tom or Lisa to win :) They've made the most improvement.

What a cop out, those judges will do anything to get Rachel in the final. Why not just give her the flaming trophy now instead of moving the goalpost, there is supposed to be three in the final but last year when Kellly withdrew because of her father's death they only had two couples and it should have been down to two this year with John Sargent leaving, so how come they couldn't bend the rules last year.
i agree with your point that they could have done the same with last year, but what has it got to do with Rachel? just because you don't like her doesn't mean there is some sort of conspiracy surrounding her! she is a great dancer and the judges recognise that.
It's not meant to be a go at Rachel more to the judges that they get to move the goal posts whenever they like, I don't think Tom and Rachel receiving the same scores from the judges was intentional but they did not take the public vote into consideration, just because Tom was bottom of the leaderboard with the judges doesn't mean he is bottom in the viewers vote. Many times we have seen celebs in the bottom two survive the dance off week after week. I don't think the judges should have a say on who goes and who stays. The public are the ones phoning in week after week and they pay their licence fees to watch who they wish. If they had counted the public vote last night I bet Rachel would have been in the dance off. I still say it's a fix.
ok the voting thing now makes sense to me. the reason they carried them over was because Tom was gauranteed to go in the bottom 2 and people had already paid to vote to save him. it makes sense now, bit of a screw up on the BBC's side of things, but a nice and simple way to resolve it.
Well no, not really.
Cos loads of couples have been at the bottom and then not been in the bottom 2
I think its nice what theyve done, they said there would be 3 in the final and there is :D
Even if Tom had received the full 3 marks for winning the public vote, he would have been in the dance off. There was no way that he could automatically have made it through to the final and that is why Saturday happened like it did.
Personally, I think its brilliant because it means that the public are the ones that will decide out of the three who is going to win.
Rachel has danced well since the start, as has Tom, but the judges have never praised Tom like they have Rachel. For me though, the judges mark for the actual technical stuff, and the public for the dances they prefer.
I voted for Lisa and Tom on Saturday :ninja: I wonder who I want to win
I always think its harder for the male though - they have to lead, dancing just isn't something that comes naturally for a man (I know it doesn't for a lot of women including myself, but most men just would wiggle their hips like Tom manages  )
I don't mind who wins as long as it isn't Rachel - nothing personal to her and sorry to her fans, but its my own personal view :)
i had hoped that that smug Tom Chambers would leave on Saturday, can't stand him, didn't want him in the final. how i have to endure another week of his cheshire cat grin on my tv screen - grrr

Would like to see you doing the dancing Bry !!
He isn't smug at all - how can someone who has been slated week in week out by the judges be called smug? And how brilliant was it of him when Brendan did "a Brendan" and stormed off, leaving Lisa feeling totally uncomfortable, to step in and make it lighthearted. I can't stand watching Rachel and feel she is more smug but hey - thats personal opinions and I'll have to endure another week of her also :p
Me and my mum think Lisa is smug
i thought austin and erin were far more smug than tom, and when he started to get bad marks it was fab!
im not wanting tom to win but that more because i dont like camilla, cant stand her, dont think she dances that well either!!! vincent and rach to win for me coz i love ickle vincent  but if lisa was to win i wouldnt mind she has improved the most and would actually be the most deserving winner!
Lol I know what you mean about austin and erin but for me it was more erin and then it had an influence on austin :p

It really did go down to the wire, pity Lisa and Brendan didn't win but at least they got to do their freestyle and it was great to see the old champions return. Well done Tom and Camillia there final dance was fun and flighty.
I've never squealed so much in my lifee! and i nearly cried so happy tom won:Dx

It was great TV, and even my husband who cant stand these viewers phone-in polls picked up the phone and voted. He adored Tom and Camilla's dance and I had to agree it was great fun and quirky. Had either of the girls won, I wouldnt have been disapoointed as I thought they had all danced really well. I did always support Lisa and Brendan though, just from their journey.
I have to say though im glad lisa came third, cos eeewww I really didn like her show dance
I'm so glad Tom and Camilla won! Hubby and I screamed when it was announced and we were so chuffed. Their show dance was amazing, so entertaining and mixed all the different dances aswell as some lifts.
Rachels was good, but I thought it was more for the wow factor rather than entertainment. Still great though.
Such a shame Lisa and Brendan didn't win, although I kind of knew they wouldn't as they haven't had a massive public following. Plus their show dance, I honestly didn't think much of.
I have to say that I think that Tom was such a humble winner. Was pretty humble imo right the way through and so complimentary of everyone else around him, professionals and celebs alike, that apart from his fab dancing (apart from the odd occasion) he really was a deserving winner.

I rooted for Lisa. But her show dance was painful to watch.
Rachel was more of the same. But Vincent deserved it to win.
Tom was definitely not my favourite. But they took a gamble with their show dance and it worked. It was really good fun and entertaining.

if it hadn't been for that a-ma-zing showdance i would have been really mad that Tom had won!
a cracking night all round though; lisa really deserved that 80 and omg my heart was in my motuh when Tom tripped. and woah that winners' dance was amazing! what a lovely surprise! can't wait for the christmas day episode now...
I think Tom really deserved it, he and Camilla have been wonderful throughout the whole series. I am gutted now its over. I have become a bit obsessed! The showdance was out of thi world.
well im gonna be different than everyone! Im not glad tom won at all, i would have much preferred lisa to win even though rachel was my fave!
I didnt like the showdance at all but then i also didnt like lisas which looked a bit clumsy! It was obvious tom would win so the whole final was a bit of a letdown for me.
Im glad that other people didnt like Lisa's Show dance, cos when I heard the music on It Takes two, I thought, ooo this might be good, but her legs were awful and I just thought she was all over the place
it seemed to me like they just tried tp cram to much into it, it really didnt look good and why was the outfit so skimpy???? she looked awful

I thought the show dances were sort of disorganized.. yep sort of all over the place....I did not even like Camilia's outfit/costume ,, she tried too hard to come across as a young Ginger Rogers.
I knew that Tom was going to win,, cos he had so many viewers voting for him..
Tell me folks...... do u think Bruce Frosthye should step down and give the Mike to Anton ???
I find Brucie RUDE...and he thinks the show is about him,,thats just my POINT OF VIEW:searchme:
Chloe O'brien
21-12-2008, 22:32
I think its time Bruce went and handed the mike to Anton at least we would have Anton for the whole 12 weeks instead of getting the boot early on. though I do like Bruce's joke about being dodgery.
i think he should hand it over to someone else, he drives me mad with his doddery thing!!
last night he was ok until he sang and then i noticed he just lost it, bless hes older and it must have been a long old night but maybe it is now to much for him!
i sat there thinking oh gawd wouldnt it be awful if something happened live on tv!!!! and he was so rude to jon at the end, what was that about??
Noooooo what are you guys talking about!!
Bruce has to stay :D
I mean Anton should still compete and hopefully might win once :D

Don't forget, we have at least got the Xmas Special to look forward to :cheer:

i thought Brucie was on fire this year! it wouldn't be the same without him and i love the way he sends himself up all the time. all those critics seem to have rejuvinated him. i would rather see Arlene Philips go to be replaced with Karen Hardy...
and i want rumours about celebs for next year too! there are so many people i would love to see on it. I would love Justin Lee Colins to go on; if anyone's seen him on Convention Crasher you'd know he'd totally throw himself into it.
Glad with the result :)
Loved Tom and Camilla and their show dance was one of the best ive seen :D

Strictly Come Dancing has been hit by a SECOND voting fiasco.
This time it happened during the recording of the Christmas Special – going out on BBC1 tomorrow night.
The scandal even led to an audience walkout. In the one-off show, six stars from the series – Tom Chambers, 31, Rachel Stevens, 30, Lisa Snowdon, 37, Alesha Dixon, 30, Jill Halfpenny, 33, and Kelly Brook, 29 – competed for the crown.
Judges and audience in the TV studio were told to cast their votes to decide the winner – but filming was halted.
The four judges – Arlene Phillips, 64, Craig Revel Horwood, 41, Bruno Tonilio, 52, and Len Goodman, 64 – scored the six stars on their dancefloor performances but four of the celebs TIED for first place.
Rachel, Alesha, Jill and Kelly were all top of the leader board.
Just as the TV audience started to vote for their champ, filming was stopped.
Producers realised they faced yet another farce, just like in the semi final two weeks ago when voting for Tom, Lisa and Rachel was cancelled due to a tie in the voting and all three celebs were put through to the final.
With four stars tying for first place in the Christmas show, it meant that when the audience votes were added, there was no way Tom or Lisa – who were in the bottom two - could win. So audience votes would not count.
There was also a possibility there could be a tie for a winner.
So the audience at the BBC studios were left waiting for 90 minutes while telly chiefs tried to sort out the mess.
Some got so fed up they walked out. They had been in the studios since 8pm for the filming and when they were stuck there at 10.45pm, many left to get trains home.
One furious fan raged: “No one really knew what was going on. We were just told there had been a problem with the voting and to sit tight and wait.
“The Strictly band started playing some songs to make the time pass. Then some of the crowd were invited for a dance on the dance floor.
“Tess’s husband Vernon Kay came out and had a dance with some of the audience. But after an hour people were getting really annoyed.
“Even the cameramen started slow handclapping because they were fed up. After 90 minutes some of the audience got up and left in disgust.”
Behind the scenes panic-stricken TV producers had to come up with a plan to salvage the voting fiasco.
They decided that Len Goodman, who is head judge, should have the final say over the judges’ scores. He had to rank the four celebs – who had tied for first place – in first, second, third and fourth places.
TV host Bruce Forsyth, 80, finally returned to the stage and told the audience what had happened. The fans that had stayed were asked to vote again.
These were then added to the judges’ scores and finally a winner – whose name is being kept under wraps – was crowned.
Last night a show spokeswoman said: “During the course of filming the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special there was a four-way tie after the judges had voted. In these circumstances Len Goodman ranks the tying couples and that is what happened on this occasion.
“The show was stopped to give Len an opportunity to reach a considered decision and for producers to brief the presenters and dancers on the changed running order.”
What a farce! The judges need to quit with these 10/10 marks all the time. They need to be more criticial, and then we might not get these kind of ties. It's boring when come quater/semi final time everyone is getting 10/10 for every performance. Personally I think it's a travesty that Tom Chambers won when technically he danced the worst.
No way!!! Arlene is never 64

Its an entertainment show, not the UK championships. It is hardly a "travesty" he won.

what annoyed me about the whole thing with the Christmas episode was that it DOESN'T MATTER if there is a tie! there's no public phone vote, the audience just presses a button- no one is losing any money! i didn't mind the high scores really, its Christmas so its all just fun and goodwill anyway. on the show it all looked like it was fine and sorted, but according to that report i guess not.
Far more pressing things going on in this world tbh. Travesty - not in my mind - I voted for both Tom and for Lisa, although I kinda knew Lisa wouldn't win because she had been bottom of the public vote for the week prior also.
It would have been a travesty if John Sergeant had won though  :p
No, personally, I'm glad Tom won as I found their showdance the most entertaining - I'll happily admit I have not a clue about technical stuff, but I know what I like.
As for the Xmas "fiasco" - its all for a bit of fun, seeing past winners come back - mind you - you could have tell they'd had a few to drink backstage - some of their reactions (especially watching Brendan in the background) was hilarious!!!
Roll on next series!!!!! :cheer:

I have not got a clue when they talk about chasis and other steps and moves. The technique side just goes way over my head. To me a desrving winner of SCD is someone who starts of with low marks and progress week after week.It shouldn't go to the celebs who gain high scores from week one. Each year my favourite has not won this year it was Jodi or Lisa as I thought they were more deserving.
i recon it should be public vote until the semi final, then the judges vote off, cos the celebs who can actallt dance are being voted off to soon, its all done on the most popular celeb! and i said from the begining either Tom or Rachel to win. So im happy eiter way x

Strictly Come Dancing star Camilla Dallerup has confirmed that she will not return for the next series of the programme.
The professional dancer was part of the show's original lineup in 2004 and has since appeared in every series. Last month, she secured victory for the first time with her celebrity partner Tom Chambers.
"I think some people will be surprised at my decision but I feel now is the right time to go," Dallerup told the News Of The World. "I have to follow my dreams."
"I need to give other things a go before I settle down and have a family," she continued. "Winning the show was just the icing on the cake. I've always been told to leave a party when you're having a good time."
Dallerup has now called for a major revamp of the competition's voting system in the wake of the high-profile semi-final problems last month. Show producers were forced to cancel a planned elimination after the judges' scores made it impossible for viewer votes to save Chambers.
Speaking about the panel, she explained: "I think they should just act as guides to the public, who then have complete control over who goes through to the next round. The British public spend their money and want to know their call makes a difference."
She added: "Strictly's an entertainment show, not a professional competition. The public love people who can't dance as well as the other contestants but are great entertainers."
wooooo fab news!!!! she really isnt my fave dancer!!
Aww I like her, well I mean she isnt my fav or anything but I like the ones who just stay on the show
 sorry I know I sound odd and dont make sense

I can see her point of view, leave the programme on a high, and what better way to leave than as a winner.
Its been good to see the new dancers and they have added a certain sense of fun to the show, especially Brian, and John Sargeants partner (cant remember her name)
Will be interesting to see what changes are made for this years show.
Can't believe shes quit:( shes an amazing dancer, but to be fair shes coming to the end of her competitive dance stuff i think x
X Factor's Brian Friedman has been linked to a judge's role on Strictly Come Dancing.
The dance choreographer, 31, is in early talks to join the panel of the BBC reality show, reports the Daily Star.
"Brian would love to be on Strictly," said a source.
Former X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne, Simon Cowell's brother Tony, Kelly Rowland, the Chuckle Brothers and comic Johnny Vegas are rumoured to be among possible contestants being lined up for this year's show.

BBC Worldwide has announced that it is to launch Strictly Come Dancing merchandise.
The broadcaster's commercial arm hopes to capitalise on the show's popularity by introducing branded products including nightwear, glitterballs and iPod covers.
Worldwide's Neil Ross Russell told The Guardian: "There is a demand among fans to be able to further their enjoyment of the brand away from television.
"The product lines are a really good reflection of the glitz and glamour that Strictly Come Dancing has come to represent."
The first range of products will be launched in time for the start of the new series later this year.
