View Full Version : 'House' creator reveals spinoff plans (contains season five spoilers)
House creator David Shore has confirmed that he is currently making plans for a spin-off show.
The planned series would focus on a private detective, played by former Six Feet Under actor Michael Weston, who will be introduced to viewers in the forthcoming fifth season.
"We brought in a character, partway through the year, Michael Weston as this private investigator House goes to," Shore told Newark Star-Ledger. "The spinoff would be less of a spinoff, it would be more us using House to launch it. It would be an independent world. A character out of the House mould, but definitely different."
"He appears very early in season five," Shore continued. "House is constantly sending people to break into people's homes, and he does it the right way in one episode. It's a character that only House could love."
Revealing the inspiration behind the project, he added: "I've always loved The Rockford Files."
House returns for its fifth season on September 16 in the US.
Lately I've had quite a few messages asking where on Earth House is (I've also had quite a few messages asking where on Earth the Q&A is - but relax, it's back soon). After all, in the last couple years Five has grown accustomed to starting up the new season around January/February time.
Well not this year. I'm told that season five of the Hugh Laurie medical drama, which began Stateside last September, is now being delayed until Summer - "or possibly Autumn".
The reason for this shift? Blame The Mentalist, a new crime drama from the US that is stealing House's slot. Apparently Five doesn't have enough space in the schedule to air both House and The Mentalist, which makes its debut in the last week of March.
Five is bringing back a host of other US series in the coming weeks, though. New 30 Rock finally bows this Friday on Five USA, Law & Order: Criminal Intent premieres at the end of March and new Patrick Swayze drama The Beast debuts tomorrow night.
:crying:
Stop showing so many damn repeats of CSI and maybe they'll be able to fit House into the schedule
We'll be able to buy the complete boxset from America by time it finishes (or starts) airing over here.

I'm sure people would prefer House now, and then the Mentalist - which no-one has seen before and therefore won't miss - later. Channel 5 are making a stupid decision and are not treating its House fans very well! :nono:
Thank goodness for online viewing eh

It depends on the tv schedule CSI, and CSI NY new seasons always start in January or early Feb. Miami begins in August. In the USA all the programmes are scheduled not to clash but over here all the good programmes are on at the same time.
There's at least three episodes of CSI on Five US on a Sunday night, plus all the episodes on US during the week. I'm sure they could cut one episode a week to make room for House.

Jeez how many CSI's are there I can't keep track. They could make space if they wanted too, and I'm sure House would get more ratings. They should think ahead then they wouldn't be delaying shows all of the time.

Oh there could be a fight on SB with the CSI fans against the House fans. Or we could settle it by asking ch5 to cut back on Neighbours and H&A episodes to make may for House.
Neighbours and Home and Away aren't shown in prime time slots, ergo it would be pointless cutting back on them.
(Notice how I used 'ergo', commonly used in the first few series of House :) )

I know they're not on at the same time, but ch5 could cut maybe one or two episodes a week of both Aussie soaps and move other programmes forward to free up the 9pm slot for more house. :D
Or, they could just cut one repeated episode of CSI. Much simpler than messing around with schedules.
Between Five and Five US I'm sure they can find an hour slot once a week. All this 'can't fit it into the schedule' crap is stupid. If they didn't show so many repeats of everything then there would be room for new episodes of more shows.

Yes if its repeats there's no excuse. :nono: :o

The only repeat at the moment is CSI Miami on Tuesday at 10. CSI and New York are both new series, which started a few weeks ago though they repeated during the week on Five US.

One of the motor vehicle assessors who I work with has to travel up to the Western Isle. (Stornoway) to assess apprentices in their workplace. He travels about three times a year. He just got back on Friday from another trip and they still don't have CH5 on the island.

Oh. My. Gosh. I think I would have to move if I couldn't get House.
I'm going to watch some later :D Just listening to Baba O'Riley.
Could not find another spoiler thread on House, therefore I am posting here:
Actor Kal Penn is trading in his role on TV medical drama House for a public service position with the White House.
A White House spokesman confirmed on Tuesday that the young actor is set to join the Obama administration as an associate director in the Office of Public Liaison. The story was first reported Entertainment Weekly magazine.
The Indo-American actor, whose real name is Kalpen Modi, will serve as a liaison connecting the Obama administration with arts and entertainment groups, as well as with the Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities.
Though he rose to fame in the Harold and Kumar stoner comedies and the Van Wilder films, Penn graduated to more serious fare, including the drama The Namesake and TV shows such as 24 and House.
He also won praise for teaching a class in the Asian American Studies department of the University of Pennsylvania in 2008.
Penn, who turns 32 later this month, was among the celebrities who supported U.S. President Barack Obama during the election, including drumming up support for Obama at college campuses, appearing at other campaign stops, and enlisting the support of fellow celebrities.
Penn's start date has not yet been set. However, the actor's character on House committed suicide on the episode that aired Monday night.
