more detailed spoilers in case anyones interested:
monday
Honey comments on Billy's strangely optimistic mood, while Billy reassures her that their lives are about to turn a corner. Meanwhile, Jase is rummaging through his drawers and finds his old knuckleduster. Dawn feels it in his back pocket, but he pulls her closer and she forgets all about it.
Later, Jay takes delivery of Dawn's new wedding dress and is stunned when he sees the price tag. When he walks into the kitchen, he sees the picture of the Essex house stuck on the fridge and Dawn tells him it's going to be their new home, but Jase is annoyed that she didn't discuss it with him before speaking to Jay.
Dawn and Jase head out for their hen and stag nights. Billy, meanwhile, accidentally leaves his mobile at home. Just as Billy turns up at Jase's flat, Terry's there, too. When Billy explains that Jase has hired him to be his driver, Terry tells him where to go. Jase then emerges from the flat and tells Terry that he's not going to do the job anymore. However, egged on by Terry, Jase snaps and agrees once again to the job.
Honey heads across to Dawn and Jase's flat and sees Terry - the man from the pub riot - and she freezes in horror. Just after Jase confirms to Billy that the job's still on, Honey hands her husband his mobile and tells him who she's just seen on the Square. Billy's appalled. At the stag party, Billy drags Jase to one side and confronts him about Terry. Jase reassures him that he's only doing the job for the money and he'll split it with him.
Jase and Billy set off in the van and when Jase gets out, he instructs Billy not to get out of the van under any circumstances. The house Jase walks up to is empty except for a message - 'Your son's with us. We'll take care of him'.
Elsewhere, Garry, Minty and Vinnie return from their holiday; and Cynthia Marshall, an elegant, mature woman walks into the Arches wanting her vintage car fixed.
tuesday
Jase is frantic and he's thrown into a state of panic when he calls Jay's mobile which just rings out. Billy, meanwhile, is still in the van, wondering what's taking Jase so long. On impulse, Billy gets out of the van and goes into the house looking for him as Jase leaves a threatening message on Terry's mobile. When Jase spots Billy, he's furious with him for getting out of the van, but lets him know that the job was a set up and they've got Jay. They return to the van and Jase speeds off with Billy in search of his son.
The pair arrive at the pub where Terry and the gang usually meet. Once again, Jase tells Billy to stay in the van. The barman tells Jase that he's no idea where Terry and the guys are, prompting a furious Jase to return to the van. They soon arrive at a derelict warehouse and Jase gets out, leaving a terrified Billy inside the van on his own. Jay isn't in the warehouse, leaving Jase puzzled. Meanwhile, back on the Square, Jay sits in the flat (Jase and Dawn's) and there's the sound of cans cracking open in the background. Slowly but surely, Jay reaches for the phone. When Jase's mobile rings and goes dead, he knows where Jay is and sets off at high speed.
On his way home, Jase realises the police are following him, but instead of slowing down, Jase simply speeds up. Billy can't believe what's happening. Billy eventually persuades Jase to pull over and when they do, the policeman asks him to step out of the van. When PC Jessop won't listen to him, Jase punches him, scrambles back into the van with Billy and speeds off. As Jase rushes into the flat, he sees his son sitting on the sofa next to Terry. Two men are sitting nearby with baseball bats, while Jay struggles to hide his fear…
Elsewhere, Vinnie discovers that his supposed burglar is, in fact, his son, Callum; Dawn's having a nightmare at her hen party when people keep phoning, to say they can't attend; Callum fills his dad in on what he's been up to; Heather and Shirley crash Dawn's hen party; Dawn continues to ignore Jase's calls; Dawn tries her wedding dress on at the club; and Dawn and Shirley come to blows.
thursday
Jase is lying on the floor, with his hand stretching out, willing someone to come through the door. And they do - himself and Billy…
Ten minutes earlier
Terry's holding Jay and Jase pleads with him not to hurt him. Terry reveals to Jase that he knows he's been taking money from him and wants it back. Jase reassures him that he was going to pay it all back, but Terry lets him know that what's happening now is about what's happened in the past. As Terry's boys hold Jase back, Terry goads him about his past actions, urging him to tell Jay all the sick and nasty things he's done. As Jase tries to explain himself, Jay can't look at his father.
When Jase offers Terry the money, Terry tells him it's too late. At that moment, Jay stands up and tells Terry he's nothing, but Terry pulls a knife on him as he tries to reach Jase. A tussle ensues on the floor between Jase, Terry and his boys, and Jase manages to shout to Billy to get Jay out of the room. Billy manages to wrestle Jay out of the room and locks him in the van outside. From inside the van, Jay urges Billy to get help for his dad. A terrified Billy turns and heads back into the flat.
Jase is barely alive on the floor and an image of what could have been flashes before his eyes. As Dawn heads home, police cars rush past her. Inside the flat, Terry listens to Jase's chest and suggest they finish him off.
As the police batter their way in, they manage to get inside and order Terry and his boys on the floor. As Jay manages to break out of the van, he sees his dad on a stretcher being carried to the ambulance.
At the hospital on the operating table, an alarm goes off and Jase reaches out as if to touch someone. In his mind, he catches a glimpse of what could have been. The surgeon eventually steps back and announces the time of death. Outside, Billy's trying to reassure Jay that his dad will pull through, but Jay's life is thrown into turmoil when the surgeon breaks the news to him. Jay's taken into the surgery to see his father. He picks up his arm and touches his cheek with it for one last time. Billy, meanwhile, watches from the doorway, wracked with guilt.
friday
Billy emerges from the police station, completely drained, as the horror of last night's events replay in his mind. At the town hall, the police turn up and scan the room for someone. Back on the Square, Billy sees Jase's van, which the police don't know about yet, and he has an idea - he takes a bag from it. Meanwhile, a determined Jay walks towards the mortuary with the Family Liaison Officer.
When Billy informs Garry about what's happened to Jase, Garry heads off to find Dawn. At the town hall, Dawn is worried that Jase is going to be late and as she steps outside, two policemen approach her. On the Square, Honey is struggling to come to terms with the news that Jase is dead, but knows there's something up with Billy. He remembers about Jay and heads out of the door after hiding the bag he took from Jase's van.
As Jay stands in the mortuary looking at his father, he breaks down in tears, while at the town hall, Dawn learns the horrific truth as to Jase's whereabouts. At the hospital, Billy's with Jay, who tells Honey that Billy was a hero when he went in to try to save Jase. Honey hugs him and tells him how proud she is. The two detectives ask Billy more questions, convinced that he's not telling them the whole truth. Honey overhears the conversation and is stunned that Billy's lied to her.
Dawn eventually returns to the Square and is relieved when she finds Jay. She starts crying and so does he, but Jay tells her that Jase was doing everything for her. In his anger, Jay accuses Dawn of forcing Jase to go out to work. Dawn's in a state and is sobbing to Garry, who tries to comfort her. Billy can't stand Jay talking about Billy the hero and is about to tell him the truth when Honey walks in…
