The body of a man found in a bed at his Lancashire home is believed to have lain undiscovered for more than two years, police have said.

The body of Brian Dean, 70, was found at the terraced house in Huncoat, Accrington, by police officers when they broke the door down.

A pile of unopened post dating back two years was found behind the door.

Tests are being carried out to determine a cause of death and officers are also trying to trace relatives.

Neighbours said Mr Dean was rarely seen and was a private person.

Alarms were not raised with official authorities because bills were still being paid by direct debit from Mr Dean's bank account.

A very sad story. :( The thought of no one noticing him dead for so long is so sad...you would have thought the neighbours may have become suspicious of what had happened to him!

How was the money going into his account if he wasn't working? Unless he had a benefactor or a stash of cash in the bank then I can't see how bills could be paid for two years automatically.

What happened when the water, gas and electricity boards came round to read the meters? Two years worth of post must have stacked up behind his door. Did the postman not notice?

I can't believe that nobody noticed that the man had been dead for two years.

Indeed, he'd been dead for two years.

What a shocking title - man lay dead in bed for two years - It's a really, really sad end to someone's life, that no-one realised that this man hadn't been seen for two years!!! Did he not have any friends, family, work colleagues???? How lonely must this man have been in life? A truly heart breaking story...:(

Even if he was rarely seen as he was a quiet person, surely you'd expect to see him within two years? How did they think he ate? Surely someone in the street would have noticed he hadn't been going out for shopping.

if he was 70 then possibly his pension or pensions were getting paid into the bank directly so the money would be there. maybe he had loads of money in the bank?
really sad no one would miss him though, not nice to think thats how you end your days with no one to miss you!

It's awful, I mena fair enough it had been 2 weeks - I'd still be worried though if it was someone I knew - but 2 years?
And I didn't realise it was in Accrington - that's like 5 minutes from me.

How tragic. What a lonely life he must have had before he died if there was noone to notice he had gone.
