View Full Version : Will you still watch countdown?
With the news that Des O Connor has quit countdown and that Carol Voderman was forced out by the producers in such disgusting circumstances, will you all still watch the show when they both leave at the end of the year?
I dont know if I'll still watch it, as the show is so heavily based on the banter between Carol and the main host, without her I dont think it will go on. All these hosts come and go but no one will ever replace Richard Whitley in my opinion.
I stopped watching after Richard died.. not the same without him and if Carol goes, not much point watching

Ok what did i miss i knew Des was leaving but why is Carol leaving, and no i doubt i'll watch it, although i only really saw it once a week as it not on at a good time for me. Having said that, i just remember Suzie Dent is still there so might tune in to see her.

well they were forcing carol to take a 90% paycut, and were really forceful making her take it or leave, she ended up quitting, but the comment that pushed her over the edge was "we replaced Richard, we can easily replace you" there was a massize countdown scandal in the newspapers last Sunday about it.

That will be why i missed it all, i was on holiday. That's so out of order, i can understand a pay cut (although not 90%)

I haven't watched countdown in years, usually miss it with travelling home, but Countdown was never the same when Richard died. There are some shows on TV where you just can't imagine anyone else doing that job and that is what countdown was like. No-one could imagine anyone else but Richard and Carol hosting the show. I know Des Lynam and Des O'Connor have tried but it just wasn't the same. Replacing Carol is not just about replacing a host. Is there someone else who can add up as quickly as she can.
I haven't really watched since Richard died, so no. I don't think Des was that good a replacement, and I don't think anyone can ever replace Richard, or Carol, come to that. 90% paycut  5, 10, 15% maybe, but that's just disgusting. She isn't a charity! Good on her for quitting.
I've not watched since Richard died either, but I know there was talk about the owner of the rights to the show (can't remember his name now) saying he might pull the format rights from C4 because of Carol's treatment - and without the format, they can't show Countdown full stop - so that could be an interesting one to follow.
I have watched it but not because of Des O´Connor (can´t stand him) nor Carol Vorderman (don´t like her much either) but I like the concept of the show and Suzie Dent and whoever was on the panel with her, very entertaining and educational, such as the history of a word or saying being explained. Depends on who will be continuing to host it I will decide on watching it or not.

didnt want to start a new thread so hopefully its ok to put this here. from ds:
Bradley Walsh has been approached to take over from Des O'Connor as the host of Countdown, according to a report.
O'Connor decided to quit the Channel 4 game show last month in favour of new projects.
Former Coronation Street star Walsh, who played factory boss Danny Baldwin on the soap, is now expected to sign a three-month contract with the programme. If his stint is successful, he could become the show's permanent host.
A source told the Daily Star Sunday: "Bradley is the perfect Countdown presenter. He is already a household name and is adored by millions of housewives across the country."
The newspaper also claims that bosses will "stop at nothing" to sign up Myleene Klass as a replacement for Carol Vorderman, who recently announced her departure after 26 years as the show's co-host.

Oh please, i definatly won't be watching if its going to be him
Think I may just have an incentive to keep on watching
Amy Winehouse has reportedly been approached to appear on Countdown.
Producers are said to be eager to sign her after she admitted to being a fan of the Channel 4 gameshow last month.
A spokesman told the Daily Star Sunday: "We would love to hear from her about coming on to the show.
"There’s no reason why she couldn’t appear as a celebrity in Dictionary Corner."
Current presenters Carol Vorderman and Des O'Connor recently announced that they are stepping down from the programme. Myleene Klass and Bradley Walsh are among the favourites to replace them.
