Donald (Michael Jayston) grows weary of Carl (Tom Lister) and Anna's (Emma Davies) bickering when they disagree over going into business with Matthew (Matt Healy). When Donald cooks an elaborate meal for the two of them, Anna insinuates that he's trying to play matchmaker. Donald takes it unkindly and they are soon arguing, resulting in Anna breaking down in tears. After Donald exits, Carl and Anna have a heart-to-heart and he encourages her to make peace with her father. Thanking him, Anna is shocked when Carl leans in for a kiss and she breaks it off immediately. Has Carl ignited some unexpected feelings in Anna?

Meanwhile, Pollard (Chris Chittell) begins to have second thoughts about turning on his workforce after nobody turns up for the interviews. When he grovels to Lisa (Jane Cox) she manages to negotiate a wage increase for all current staff members. Heading back to work, Pollard is stunned to see a queue of people outside the factory. Realising that there was a typo on the interview notice, Pollard rubs his hands in glee before Lisa warns him not to disregard their deal. Agreeing, Pollard takes on just two new employees, Adele (Tanya Vital) and Leyla (Rokhsaneh Ghawam-Shahidi). Can Pollard bring peace to his troubled factory?

Elsewhere, Daz (Luke Tittensor) is furious when he catches Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) selling home made alcopops, having stolen vodka from Diane (Elizabeth Estensen). Taking her back to the Woolpack to sober up, the pair are caught by Paul (Mathew Bose) who quizzes them about the missing vodka. Daz covers for Victoria and Paul is pacified. Victoria later explains that she's missing Jack and Daz softens towards her.

Tuesday 12 August

Anna (Emma Davies) meets Carl (Tom Lister) and quizzes him about their kiss. Surprising him, Anna hints at another one, explaining that it would please Donald (Michael Jayston). Later, Carl tries to kiss her again, before Anna tells him to dump Lexi (Sally Oliver) first. However, a persistant Carl talks Anna round, but while they're kissing in the bedroom Lexi returns looking for Carl, almost catching them together. Anna demands that Carl finish it so he arranges to meet Lexi to talk. Before he can get a word in, Lexi blurts out that Carrie told her he killed Tom. Carl is angry but explains to Lexi he loves her to keep her on side. Meanwhile, after discussing a deal with Matthew (Matt Healy), Anna agrees to a drink in the pub. When he tries to kiss her Anna leaves to visit Carl. Seeing him happily relaxed with Lexi, Anna furiously states that nobody makes a fool of her. Has Carl tested the foreboding maxim about scorned women?

Also, Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) visits Terry (Billy Hartman) to try and garner information about Rodney's (Patrick Mower) books. Terry tries to borrow the book from Rodney, but he refuses to let it out of the house. Not to be denied, Diane tries a different tactic and invites Gabby (Annelise Manojlovic) for dinner, asking her to bring Rollercoaster Rod with her. Reading the book later, Diane is upset to learn her character is dull. Will she confront Rodney to learn the reasons why?

Meanwhile, Brenda (Lesley Dunlop) encourages Gennie (Sian Reese-Williams) to leave the Dingles in an effort to gain a proper job. After Gennie refuses, Brenda hassles Bob (Tony Audenshaw) into seeing Gennie for the Post Office position. Once the interview is over, Gennie breaks the news that she was unsuccessful, prompting Lisa (Jane Cox) to offer the factory as an idea. Brenda is reluctant, but Gennie secures a two week trial. However, desperate to retain contact with her daughter, Brenda takes the postal job herself.

Wednesday 13 August

Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) becomes paranoid that she is boring and decides to get revenge on Rodney (Patrick Mower). After arranging a business lunch in the Woolpack for Rodney, Diane dresses in dowdy clothes, interrupts the meeting and introduces herself as Rodney's ex-wife. Confused, Rodney asks what she's doing, so Diane goes to the opposite extreme, changing into a low cut top and doing her best Val impression for Rodney's client. Shocked, Rodney's client leaves and he demands an explanation. Diane hurls a copy of Rollercoaster Rod at him and explains how insulted she is. Can Rodney make amends for his literary faux pas?

Elsewhere, Viv (Deena Payne) is sombre when Bob (Tony Audenshaw) arranges a family picnic. Donna (Verity Rushworth) tries to raise spirits by organising an egg and spoon race, and eventually Viv forgets her troubles. However, the laughter doesn't last and Viv is soon downbeat, fearing her court appearance. Donna makes her mum promise to keep fighting, but does Viv have the will to carry on?

Meanwhile, Turner (Richard Thorp) suggests that Pearl (Meg Johnson) join the quilt making competition at the village show and when Edna (Shirley Stelfox) laughs at the idea, Pearl agrees. Discovering that Edna herself is entering, Pearl accuses her of deliberately sabotaging the competition.

Thursday 14 August

Rodney (Patrick Mower) defends his book to Terry (Billy Hartman), insisting that the work was private. He throws it in the bin to prevent more trouble, but an incoming Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) takes notice and retrieves the manuscript once he leaves. Needing another story for the publisher, Nicola decides to act as peacemaker between Rodney and Diane (Elizabeth Estensen). However, Diane notices the Rollercoaster Rod story in Nicola's bag and an argument escalates. Rodney decides enough is enough and burns the manuscript in the fire. Have Nicola's dreams gone up in smoke?

Meanwhile, in spite of her family's reservations, Viv (Deena Payne) decides she wants to have a mock trial to boost her confidence. They gather together some villagers in the café with Doug (Duncan Preston) acting as judge. After a successful defence, Betty (Paula Tilbrook) rips into Viv as prosecutor and the defendant confesses to kissing Freddie. The verdict is announced and Viv is shocked to discover it's guilty. Will she crumble in the same way when in front of a real court room?

Elsewhere, Pearl (Meg Johnson) pays Edna (Shirley Stelfox) and tries to desperately find the quilt. After sending Edna to get some biscuits, Pearl turns the house upside down and locates the quilt. Rushing outside, Pearl is caught red-handed by Edna and their rivalry threatens to get nasty.

Friday 15 August

A desperate Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) pushes Gabby (Annelise Manojlovic) to get more Rollercoaster Rod stories but Rodney (Patrick Mower) refuses. Nicola decides that the best way to change his mind is to force a reconciliation with Diane (Elizabeth Estensen). She takes Rodney for lunch and tells him to write another story, but completely change Diane's character. Meanwhile, Doug (Dunca Preston) hands David (Matthew Wolfenden) a cheque written to Nicola and he is furious to discover it's the advance from the publisher. First, he tears up the cheque and then requests the publisher make him co-author. What will Nicola do when she discovers his deception?

Also, a low Viv (Deena Payne) decides that the only way out is to do a runner. Bob (Tony Audenshaw) stands firm by insisting the twins would suffer on the run and stating that he won't run from their problems. Viv begs Bob to give her the chance of a new life so he agrees. Calling in help from the Dingles and Paddy (Dominic Brunt), Viv and Bob prepare to drive into the sunset. However, Jamie (Alex Carter) takes Viv to one side and suggests that Bob has been forced into leaving.
