Out on patrol, PC’s Mel Ryder (Rhea Bailey) and Nate Roberts (Ben Richards) rush to a road traffic accident. They discover an abandoned van and a car with unconscious driver, Chrissie Cholerton (Carolyn Tomkinson) at the wheel along with twelve-year-old Robin Pressman (Samuel Renew).
Back at Sun Hill, Superintendent Heaton (Daniel Flynn) introduces new sergeant Rachel Weston (Claire Goose) to DCs Kezia Walker (Cat Simmons) and Mickey Webb (Chris Simmons), who is keen to accompany her to Mackay’s Jewellers which has been broken into. As the investigation progresses, Rachel realises that the break-in is related to the earlier car crash and is stunned to discover that Robin was in the back of the abandoned van – the suspected getaway vehicle.
The van is soon traced to squatters Steve Rose (Jethro Skinner) and Scarlett Pratt (Georgie Smith), who are brought in for questioning by Rachel and Mel. They swear that although they ran from the scene of the crash, they had nothing to do with the robbery and were looking after Robin after finding him begging. The couple surprise the officers by claiming there was a man in the car’s passenger seat, next to Chrissie.
While compiling all the evidence, Rachel and Mel realise that Chrissie and her husband, Gary (Terry Smith) are related to the jewellery shop owner and broke in as part of an insurance scam. Later, Mel and Nate are called to Steve and Scarlett’s squat where they discover Scarlett has knocked out a furious Gary, who later claims that the couple stole the goods from them during the crash.

Out early on patrol, Sergeant Rachel Weston (Claire Goose) and PC Nate Roberts (Ben Richards) see a man standing over unconscious Paula Merrick (Liza Walker), who has been beaten down an alleyway. Nate chases after the suspect, later identified as Barney Hussein (Christopher Steward) who drops a stun gun and manages to outrun the frustrated officer.
DI Samantha Nixon (Lisa Maxwell) heads to the hospital with DC Jacob Banks (Patrick Robinson) to talk to Paula and are tasked with telling her that evidence suggests she may have been raped, much to her husband’s horror. A tearful Paula attempts to recollect what happened the night before but claims not to remember anything.
As the investigation continues, Paula finally reveals that she had been out alone the night before and after flirting with stripper Tom Norris (Henry Garrett), went back to his house. When things became too heated, she asked Tom to stop and ran from him, but tells Samantha that she remembers later being attacked by someone in the alley. Armed with this information, Samantha and Banksy arrest Tom during his strip tease for a group of screaming women. The officers are later forced to release him but Samantha is certain that there is more to him then meets the eye.
Elsewhere, PC Will Fletcher’s first day in CID gets off to a bad start when DC Terry Perkins (Bruce Byron) makes fun of his new suit, but after being paired up by Samantha, they investigate where Barney’s stun gun may have come from. They eventually track down Matt Rushton (Michael Glenn Murphy), the supplier of the weapon. Terry decides to let Will lead his first interview as a Trainee DC and is quietly impressed.
