Self Tanning

Anyone hear self tan?

If so what do you do? Sunbeds? Spray Tans? or Tanning products?

Thought I'd get some to tan myself up a bit before i hit the beach in a couple of weeks, so as i'm not pale as a ghost. Looked on the GQ site and they recommended i buy this one from Boots, cost me 16 quid for the face and body tanning cream!

looked online about it, and apparantly up to 39% of men admit to self-tanning - quite a high number i was suprised by it, so wondered how many of you ladies self tan?

no i cant be bothered with the hassle, i will always be pale its in my genes so why cover it up. Plus i saw my mate at work who had had a self tan disaster! It was terrible so streaky and it wasnt coming off its still there now a week late.r That really put me off. but thats just me, if the right prioduct is used i think it looks good and if it is tan colour not youve been tangoed david dickinson style.

Interesting you put this thread as i was reading in the pper this evening about a headmaster who has banned selftan on his pupils.

I dont use anything, as I tan really easy anyway, but are you going away? or just going to a beach over here? as if you are going away sunbeds are probably best as it will build a gradual tan so you wont burn

I wouldnt go using anything out of a bottle bry, stick with the sunbeds. 3 mins to begin with then build up to about 6 or 7.

I wouldn't go with sunbeds. Personally. With the skin cancer risk. Even if you hardly use them, they're still dangerous.

I'd go with the spray tan booths at a salon. Gives you all over tan without having to burn your skin off or go streaky from diy tans :p

Apparently, the Johnson holiday skin gradual moisturiser/tan thing is supposed to be good.

I use the Dove one... but I don't reccommend it. It rubs on clear so you can't even see where it's going, sometimes it works but you ahve to be very careful.

I watched something on telly about fake tan and the ones that spray on like deodorant are supposed to be the best... I don't have alot of luck with them though, so I'm not alot of help really because I stick with the sun rays :)

I dont really self tan, One year I used one of those moisturiser with self tanning in them....summer lotions or creams, I think thats was they were called. They are good and you dont look orange. Apart from that time, Ive never self tan. Im lucky cos when I do tan it never fades completely, so I get darker every time as it fades less

I have used body lotion with self tanning properties, put it on all over after my shower in the morning, got dressed and when I got home from work, I realised I have ruined a new bra where the lotion obviously had not all been absorbed by the skin. :angry: And even though I tried to be very careful to get it on all even, I had a streak on my left shin. I mainly wear trousers, so not a big drama, but I am glad I did not use the lotion in my face. I would recommend to go to a salon and get it done professionally rather, I don't think that a lot of us can get it just right at the back of the legs and the back because you can't see what you are doing.

i never used any tanning products. and even though id prefer not to be so pale, im always worried that id look stupid with a tan cos naturally im really pale/really light hair etc so ive never bothered. but like stars said, id probably go for the spray tan they do in salons

I use the gradual tans like dove, johnston etc... they are ok and do build a light tan but I mainly use it to top up a tan I already have

you'll never get me a sunbed, not with the risks. my cousin goes on them 3 times a week since she was 18 and last year she had a skin cancer scare, and she's only 26, wouldn't risk it for a biscuit.

i tried the loreal (i think it was that one) gradual tan mostiurer a while back and that was horrible, ended up like david dickinson

apparantly this stuff I've brought No7 for Men from Boots is meant to be a lot better, giving you a gradual sun-kissed look rather than a tango attack. at 9 quid a bottle, i should bloody hope so!!!

I've used Dove and johnson's tanning lotian but it's difficult to get the result you want. I have had a couple of spray on tan's done at tanning centres they are about £30 and last for 6 weeks. I got one last year for the wedding and I'm going to go and get another one next week. they're fine as they don't make you look tangoed too much just give you a healthy glow.

I would forget about fake tan, cover up and use factor 30 -50 sunblock, but that is just me. I don't tan, I freckle, even with factor 30 I still just freckle.

I would rather be a milky bar kid than tangoed.

I wished I freckled with factor 50.. I burn and it hurts.. I have to uses camoline lotion and after sun creams. That is why I like the dove for fair skin.. gives a nice gentle colour without the burning

I never strip off, always use Piz Bruin (or some name like that) allergy sun creams - I get prickly heat and this really works at preventing it.

When I was younger and went of sunshine holidays in Mallorca with my friends I was the one on the beach lying under the towel rather than on top!

I hate sunbathing, but I do like to get out and about without burning/prickly heat etc.

I'm the same! hehe that bit made me cringe and I can't go anywhere near a sunbed anymore ;[

I use Rimmel's sun shimmer I think it's called. It's in a bronze coloured bottle thingy. It looks a ridiculous colour when it comes out of the bottle but when you rub it in and let it dry it's fab. I use it alllll the time. I think I have OCD with it!

I've tried most of the gradual ones with moisturiser and what not and tbh they're all crap. I dunno if it's just me, but it's never even and because you can't see it when it's going on, it's always streaky.

I don't really need to use any self tan products as i'm quite tanned anyway due to italian relations. But my mum said if i ever wanted to sort my tan out then go a tanning booth. I'll never go near a sun bed. Althrough i don't think i will go to a tanning booth cause of my scars on my stomach but thats just me.

Oh I must try that cause I break out in little tiny blisters in the sun.. all over my arms and legs and they get worse if exposed to sun...

You can always tell when someone has faked tanned - They miss the upper back. I think i would rather get it done professionally than look like a mess like that. They make sure your whole body is covered. I don't sunbathe either, but i don't avoid the sun. I just can't stand the idea of intentionally trying to get a tan, especially when on holiday. You waste your time just lying there, when you could be out doing something. I prefer to get out and about, and if i get a tan when i'm doing that, then fair enough.

Same with me. I find that being up and about gets you jsut as good a tan as lying somewhere anyways, and it's way way way more fun! :thumbsup:

I tried Olay gradual tan.. works great but if you don't let it dry before putting on clothes, it will stain... once you dry, it doesn't streak and works very very well

My mum has started using some cos she says her legs are really really pale and when we are on the beach next week she doesnt want to show off pale legs :lol:

No one can look as bad as my Dad did on the beach in Golspie! As he's a HGV driver, the sun is like magnified I suppose and plus he's always got his right arm on the window bit if you will, so he's really tanned. But yesterday we went to the beach and I couldn't stop laughing, his legs were like milk bottles whilst his arms and shoulders were really brown!

I'm not bothered about tanning myself, although I like to get one if I go to the coast for a weekend or something. I wouldn't use one of those sunbeds; I'd agree with Stars and go for the salon booth if ever I did want a tan though. I'm not that pale skinned anyway; I take after my dad which is lucky as my mum's skin is really pale.
