Plans to film dramatic Coronation Street scenes in the Lake District have been axed due to cost-cutting.
Producers had originally decided to film in the Lakes for a new plot which will see Weatherfield favourite Liam Connor, played by Rob James-Collier, murdered in mysterious circumstances.
However, the filming is now expected to take place at a beauty spot in Rivington, Lancs, just 20 miles from the soap's studios in Manchester. The new plan will mean that bosses can avoid paying out for overnight accommodation.
"Nobody on the cast or crew can believe the filming of such a major storyline has been axed because of cost," an insider told the Daily Star Sunday. "The last time we worked in the Lakes it involved several days' filming and accommodation."
James-Collier announced that he was quitting the soap in February.
