View Full Version : Soapboards Meet
Hey guys, I was thinking, why don't we arrange a big meet for Soapboards?
If we plan far enough in advance, I'm sure we could arrange to all meet up somewhere for a weekend. Probably best for it to be London, hit the shops, see a show, go out clubbing, I dunno, whatever, I'm sure our London members would know what's best to do in a weekend!
What's everyone's thoughts? I'm well up for it if others are!
Current plans for 2010 meet (http://www.soapboards.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=699221&postcount=331) at Birmingham.

Only chance I get to go to London is March 13th next year with History hehe.

Yay I'd so be up for this :D How handy I live in London :p Although if we went clubbing it would have to be in four months when I'm 18
There's so much to do though, everyone list suggestions? I'm fine with doing anything...since I live in London I can wander round anytime so I'll leave it to the people who don't :p If we are going shopping though....Oxford street :D
I'd love to meet up. However, my parents don't know I come on here and I don't think my mum would be impressed if I announced I'm meeting up with members of a messageboard that she doesn't know.
If it's after September though I'd definately be able to do it (what my mother doesn't know won't hurt her). If I end up at Bucks uni I'll only be 50mins from London.
Would we all be wearing a red rose in the left lapel of our suits/blouses, whatever so we can recognise us? :ninja:
That's a good thought. Some of us have posted our pics on here but how would we recognise the ones that haven't? :hmm: Maybe we could all stay in the same hotel.
And if Perdita turns up we'll find out her real name :p
Kirsty :]

Hehe you can all have message boards saying all your anmes... like they do at Airports :D

Good idea although I might have to draw one on a bit of paper and stick in on
I would be up for it but what with my mum not knowing about me being a member here, just cause i haven't got round to telling her yet & It's kinda a bit far for me:lol: So i'd be up for it but i don't know if i can.

I would be up for it. I would need time to save up and find a baby-sitter for Marley for the weekend though.
What about those that live abroad? Can we have a meeting in Europe as well? Or further afield but I think finance might be a problem for a lot of us.
Jodi lives in Holland, you're in Germany. I think there's someone from Gibralta who posts too. I can't think of anyone else who lives in Europe (excluding those that live in Ireland).
Seeing as I live in Yorkshire it will cost a fair bit to get down to London. I'd love to go to Europe too :D
If we plan for later in the year then we can save up, find babysitters etc.
If we are going shopping though....Oxford street :D
Nah, Carnaby Street or Covent Garden!
I dunno if i'd be able to go, but i know lots of places in London... as i live here... if you want some ideas of what to do :)
I'd like to go see a show as well as shopping.
I am planning a couple of days in Soton (Southampton) late November this year,. Might have lost 3 stones by then and feel comfortable enough to mee you guys, however, I am a scardy cat if I don't know my way around so any meeting place should be easily accessible by tube/taxi etc. please. I would be flying to UK so no Sat Nav available.

You could try national express (.co.uk) coaches, they might have some cheap rates.

We should go to Covent Garden for the street performers too :D
I haven't been to London either so the place where we meet up first would have to be somewhere near a train station/tube/airport so I don't get lost.

http://www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/ Any suggestions? :D
Meeting near a station is a good idea :)
If you want to see a show, then you should set a price limit first. Because some are like £50 (Les Mis, Phantom, Joseph etc) and some are more like £20-30 (Avenue Q, Wicked, etc). And some are much cheaper (Stomp, i think, is under £20). But generally, they are expensive to get good seats, unless you get an offer. Oyster had a 2-for-1 offer a while ago, which made it cheap. I dunno if its still on though.
Meeting near a station is a good idea :)
Yeah. Then if we don't like the look of each other we can hop back on the train to where we came from :rotfl:
ooo convent garden! i was too young to appreciate that place when i went to London before, but now I'd love to go and max out my card in some of the designer boutiques!
as for shows - I so wannna see Mamma Mia! Is it any good? I'd be full on singing the songs and embarassing myself
Is Mamma Mia the Abba one? Sounds good, it appears we're all closet Abba fans from the Abba thread.
Hairspray looks good too.
Avenue Q is the best at the minute, i think. It is the funniest show i've ever seen, i don't think i've ever laughed so much.
Kirsty :]
19-07-2008, 22:28
Yeah Mamma Mia is the Abba one.
WWRY also looks really good if there's any Queen fans out there.
Hairspray is AMAZING! But that's because it's liekt he story of my life and aww it's jsut brill.. and of course there's Ben Ellis  Definately worth you all watching it

Awww I wont be able to drink :(
I ike the suggestions of Spetember and stuff, cos if loads of us can do it, I'll wanna meet soon rather than later, although I do think maybe sometime later in the year or early next year gives us all better planning time and stuff :D
I think we need to make it under 18 friendly perhaps, because then it'd be fun and the under 18s wouldn't have to slink off somewhere when we want to go out!

Yeah unless whereever we do it, we meet early? So we have more of the day?
I dont mind meeting in a city like midlands way, well north west ish, I dunno, Im just trying to think of place kinda near wales since we have members from there?
I would love to meet in London.
I think we we need to think about where everyone could travel to and what time would be best to meet, hopefully in the morning but not too early, just so we are all happy and can make the most of it??

yeh i dont mind earlish, id sleep on the train lol! yeh its difficult when everyone lives so far away, i wondered if theres somewhere everyone can get to with only 1 or 2 trains needed?
How about we meet somewhere in the middle of the country then people (like Kath) don't have a long way to travel?
StarsOfCCTV
20-07-2008, 21:53
If it were outside of London I'd probably have to go with a mate. It'd be fine though because I'd be 18.
Yeah the middle of the country would be good :D
We need a map lol
, i wondered if theres somewhere everyone can get to with only 1 or 2 trains needed?
Kings Cross express runs through York and stops at pretty much every major station from London to Glasgow. I can get to York pretty easily.
I can get a train to anyehere without getting off and swapping, thats what I find at Manchester anyway
StarsOfCCTV
20-07-2008, 21:55
That would be ok, Kings cross isn't far by train for me. Any idea of costs to York?

So where are we classing as the middle? :hmm: :p?
That would be ok, Kings cross isn't far by train for me. Any idea of costs to York?
Cheaper if you book online 24hrs before. York to Newcastle is £11 return so I don't think it would be much more from KC to York.
Not suggesting we meet in York, just that the KC Express runs right up to Glasgow for us in England.
So where are we classing as the middle? :hmm: :p?
How about we all say what region we live in and then find somewhere in the middle of them?
I live in East Yorkshire. See where Hull is? I live in the bit that is furthest inland (to the left)

well i live and go to uni in kent (different places but only about 1hr difference), so right in the southeast corner, so i wouldnt really wanna go too far up, but midlands should be ok, dunno how long that would take though

When I asked Mum the situation with meeting people from forums a while back, she said I could go providing I was 16 and wouldn't have to change train/coach. I don't know if she'll agree to London though, with everything that's been on the news about it lately. I'll have to have a word with her once things are more definite about the place, and I'll come if I can.
I think what we should do about choosing where we are gonna meet, eventually we narrow it down to a few places that we all wouldnt mind going to, and then maybe do a vote, but hopefully we'll all be happy with the outcome cos those in the top list we are all happy with?
That'd be good. Further South the better for me, to maximise the chance that I can get there without having to change. The only changes Mum will allow would be bus routes that I'm familiar with.
Maybe we should post a map with a cross on it to show roughly where we are, so that we can pick a place which would be convenient for the most members.

Well we could search around places around the Birmingham area, or places a bit further down? Cos thats kinda in the centre isnt it? Well not really but you know?
Im going to find a really detailed map

Mum seems to have decided I'll get on the wrong train, or miss the change and ring home in hysterics or something. I don't think I should push her about the change thing, or she'll probably go back to saying I can't meet anyone.
What about Northampton :searchme: Im just randomly searching maps?
Lol Ive just looked and it would be pretty much the same time for me to Get to London. Its just the cost
That's 103 miles for me, according to Google Maps, so not too far. I don't see any reason why Mum would object to there if I don't have to change.
I'll look on the website for you if you want?
This is so hard thinking of a place to meet :hmm: I think I'll just sit back and see where other people think, so just ignore my suggestions :p
I'll have a look, there's about 5 different train stations I'll be allowed to go from, as they're all quite local and in places I've been to before.
Bath would probably be best for me, although that is probably too far South for some people. We could always have a South and a North one if we had to, as obviously parents are going to be deciding on the behalf of members under 18 particularly whether they go or not.
Yeah Bath is too awkward for me, its gonna take ages and all the trains have like 2 or 3 changes
Can't do Northampton. The very least I can get is 1 change, most of them 2 or 3.
Swindon? 1 change by bus gets me there, and I've been there quite a lot so Mum won't object to that change.
Thats just as bad
Oh dear lol  This is going to be fun, Oh well if we give ourselves plenty of time we should sort something :searchme:
I won't say the next 2 on my list then, as those are even smaller places

i dont think we are ever gonna find somewhere where everyone agrees on just cos we all live so far apart! i looked up some of your suggestions, bath would be about the same distance as birmingham for me and not that much more expensive, northampton is nearer but will cost me nearly £50 so i wouldnt be able to afford to go there!
I'm fine with Bath. For us up north it would be about the same distance to travel to London though. Even longer for us in the NE.
Birmingham's looking doubtful for me; I'd have to go from a train station in Bristol to get no changes, and I have no idea where the stations are there. I'd have to get 2 different busses to Bristol, and the no change one isn't very common, so I won't be able to be very flexible on times if Mum does allow me to go there.

Then if all goes well, we can do another one in November, or the summer holidays after... yeah? :D Then those who can't go to the first one, can maybe go to the second one.. and we can always change the location from time to time.. Not everyone can go to everyone like.. if ya get me.. like I may not be able to do one in London... but others would... then it's fair..
Awww thats good :D
Clever lea :p
Now theres the thing from when are you classing the summer holidays?
CrazyLea
29-12-2008, 19:41
I also think you should have to have a certain number of posts and be over 16.
Maybe purple members + should go.. because you know them better? And so that others don't turn up who aren't purple or something.. once we know who can go, maybe go etc.. we sort it via email/pm or msn or something?

Well that would depend when everyone who is going has their holidays, Everyone will have the whole of Aug off I'm guessing? So could do it in August..
Yeah good idea, however what about the people who arent purple that we know well?

The 500 posts purple.. light purple :p.
Just trying to think, just in case like.. want it all to be safe if ya get me?
Ooooo! you mean the light purple!
I thought you meant dark purple

Noooo not dark purple :p.
Not sure when my hols start. I shall have a look :D.
Kirsty :]
29-12-2008, 19:46
Well I suppose the date depends on who can go. I mean say for example it turned out to just be us 3 and Stars.. we would ahve finished school/college in like June/July because of exams... liek I said it depends on who wants to go
Im doing 2 weeks work experince as soon as my summer starts but I still have the weekends :p

I'll have to see nearer the time.

I can come to Cardiff, if any of you people wanna meet me.. dunno if i'll go though as i'm really shy :p :D and probably wont speak the whole time :o
Awww Davey you have to come :D
Cardiff isn't that much on a train for me either. Depends on what times they do and whether my parents allow it; I don't know if they might not like it with it being Wales. I will have to ask them when we have more definite dates. I have to go back to start A2 after exams so I can't do as many dates as most if I am allowed.
Kirsty :]
29-12-2008, 22:41
Yeahh Davey you have to come!! :D I'm shy.... but talking to you lot on here for the past nearly liek.. year! Has boosted my confidence and there'll be quite a few of us so we'll ahve stuff to talk about :D

I think you should chart a light aircraft and go around the country picking up soapbaord people from where they live, and then all go to BurgerKing for tea :)
Shy... that's me; I think I have more friends at 6th form than I've ever had in my life  I speak to even more people online than I do there though lol.
I'll come to the meet. I live somewhere near Abbie (no idea where it is in relation to Wales). Wherever is fine for me, as long as it's not north of Newcastle, the train journey there is long enough without going futher.

Righty. :rotfl: I never was good at geography.
Whatever you decide is fine.
Yeah from here its a 20 min drive to enter wales but cardiff is like south wales so the train ride is about 2 and half hours
Hey if we get to do this, we should try and work it so we are on the same train  :p
That's a good idea.
Didn't know Wales was that close. Are you nearer to the border than me?
Im closer, but your kinda further down from me
As many people that can go together on each different train would be good, then whoever will be rounding us all up in Cardiff has less people to find.
Anyone got any preferences so we can get an idea of a time of day for this? Which station I would go from depends on the times as I would have to go to the station by bus. It's probably best to have a station in mind before I approach my mum about it.

Haha what :p.
Well I'm thinking getting there for about 10/11? Cause if it takes quite a long time. The last train to get in by me is just after 10.. so would have to go earlyish.. like 4/5.. to make sure I don't miss it.. and I have to change in Swansea...
I thought we would just be meeting at Cardiff train station
CrazyLea
04-01-2009, 15:17
Yeah same here . There's only one station I'm assuming? :p Never really been to Cardiff properly :p. Just to Cardiff Bay. If I had to walk around Cardiff on my own I WOULD get lost :p So deffo train station I think :p.
Kirsty :]
04-01-2009, 17:57
Yeahh there's only one train station :D you're alright there lol
It would just be saying where in train station to meet, right?
Unless someone wants to volunteer to pick us all up from our platforms so we can't get lost in the train station (never been to Cardiff by train before, so I don't know how easy that would be.) If we were to do that that is when it would be better if as many people as possible went on the same train, E.g. If Abbie and Abigail are on the same train, whoever is trying to round us all up (Dave, Kirsty maybe if we decide to do this) only have to find the two of them together, rather than finding both separately. Hope that makes more sense Lea.
;635063']Yeahh there's only one train station :D you're alright there lol
When I was looking up trains I set it for Cardiff, all stations. What's the station called I need?
Well if Kirsty knows of a good meeting stop, like say a WHsmiths, theres alwatys on of them, we can just meet there
Thats just an example doesnt have to be that

Cardiff Central (CDF) is the one you need..:) I think if we all met at the exit of the station that might be an idea, just a suggestion.

Yeah something like that
It makes things easier and if we all meet where we know how to get to and something easy

We can all meet at a mutually agreed point otherwise it's going to be difficult for one person to find the others on the platforms. I'm assuming Cardiff is a busy station so there's going to be lots of people on the platforms.
Best idea would be to meet at the station entrance or a shop in the station.
Kirsty :]
12-01-2009, 21:57
They have a shop in the station just as you're about to leave the station, so that would probably be the best place to meet
Yeah, see easy bit is saying where we will meet, the hardest will be the dates and times
What are we looking at, weekends or week days? What about the easter hols? I have about four weeks off so I'm not bothered about a specific day. I'm assuming that some of you will have holidays at different times, like last year.
I dont mind easter, but I think we said summer?
:searchme:
Summer is good. I can't really be bothered to go back through the thread and find out what else we talked about:lol:
Preferably not a Sunday for me because I will have to get a bus to the station my end and there's only one every two hours on that day.
Lol I think we said early july maybe
That was pretty much it, didnt get any further
It would have to be a Saturday I think for me if early July, I'm not sure how many weeks of A2 we have to go back for before we break up but I assume I will be at school then.
Just wondering if there were any more thoughts on this
I know we have exams at the moment, but it is coming towards summer

Do you have regular meets?
Nope, I havent met anyone
Rimmer, Chloe O'Brien, Luna and I met up back in November 2005.
I think that that was the first documented Soapboards meet.
It was great putting faces to the names - and they are all great people
Please everyone remember internet safety rules when meeting people you don't know off the internet for the first time.
Meet in a public place
Tell someone about the meeting
Go with a friend initially if you feel safer.
Just be sensible really, you may speak to a person on line a lot, but not everyone is honest about who they are or their motives.
Be safe.

Thanks for the advice I wondered if these meets were a regular thing that happened as from seeing people post everyone seems so closely bonded.
No, there's only been one meet.
We talk about it a lot but never get round to organising it :p Quite a few of us live in the same areas so it wouldn't be a major drama trying to organise it. Its just finding time.

London, but my parents don't know about SB, and they like to know where I am. They'd ask too many questions and they'd probably say no. I know you've got to be careful meeting people off the net, but I'm 18, I'm responsible, and I highly doubt you are all a bunch of kidnappers or murderers etc so I don't think I've got much to worry about meeting you lot. :p

I trust you all, I have quite a few of you on facebook. I've seen the pictures of you drunk, out with friends etc so I know you're not going to kidnap me.
I'm in Newcastle over the summer so I probably won't be able to get to Cardiff without paying a rdiculous amount for a train ticket.
September is when I'll be able to get to Cardiff. I'll be back at uni by then so it won't take long. I'm only about 40mins from Abbie on the train down there.

Very small world!
lol why have we never met up Abigail?
you see im going to exeter so I dont know then depends where we can meet and stuff.
And in the summer if I pop up to sunderland to visit my gran I could meet up with people who live up that way, I can do newcastle very easily?
Newcastle to Cardff is 80 quid return (~6hrs). Stoke to Cardiff is 35 (~3hrs)
lol why have we never met up Abigail?
And in the summer if I pop up to sunderland to visit my gran I could meet up with people who live up that way, I can do newcastle very easily?
I don't actually know :rotfl: You're only 20mins by road.
It's random how we compare weather on here yet haven't met up.
You can get to me on the Metro from Sunderland. Change at Monument or Newcastle Central. Not sure how long it takes. From me its about 30mins into Central.
I usually get off at Momument to go shopping :p
lol well I will be going up there at some point just dont know when
lol! and the thing is I would say we can meet up when you come down to uni but this time I will be going to uni even further down south!
When are you going to uni? I can move in from 1st September but don't start until 24th. I have no idea when I'm moving back. Might pop down to see a friend near Coventry over the summer.
Everytime I go through your train station I always think of you and how close we are logistically.
awww lol, you go through crewe? its a sh*thole! thank god I dont live there I live in a small town next to it.
Im going for the 21st I think
Unfortunately yes. The trains are dirty and horrible. They've redone the station though, looks much better than September last year.
yeah I still think the train station is a mess
at least the virgin tarins are better
yeah I still think the train station is a mess
I must be thinking of a different station then. I've been through so many I lose track of which is which.
Train stations in the north are much prettier than the midlands.
which train station are you thinking of?

id love to go to cardiff but dunno if its too far? although ive just looked and on the train it would only take 4hrs and would only cost £28 if i booked in advance (would be about £70/£80 otherwise!) so i suppose thats not bad! dunno if its too far for a day though. plus id have to go when im back in canterbury as my mum would wonder why i was going to cardiff otherwise just for a day lol!
You see if I do end up in exeter I could meet up in london or plays like bristol and stuff
I'm up for a meetup anywhere up northish (e.g. midlands, yorkshire)
I can get to Cardiff for £7 and that's without a railcard which I should be getting soon. So as long as my mum agrees, count me in. And if she would be happier that she came to make sure that I got off the train in the right place or anything then it wouldn't break the bank.. so hopefully :D

I am willing to go a bit further.. so long as it doesn't cost too much.. preferably somewhere where I wouldn't have to get accommodation.. but I'm open to suggestions, if there's a few people elsewhere who want to do it?
I can! I mean cardiff will take me 3 hours though but when exactly?
I was thinking about this earlier as I'm on school holiday now. My mum said it was ok when I asked her about it a while back.

Fine by me. I would've preferred a non-weekend anyway as the bus times are a little better on weekdays.
24th- 28th August.
Im gonna need time when I get back to book my tickets
can I ask that we dont do it on a weekend just got train fares are more then mostly :p
If you book 24hrs in advance online or at a ticket office you should get a discount. I've never paid more on a weekend than during the week.
Also, look at splitting your tickets. You can often save loads by buying seperate tickets or two singles instead of a return.
CrazyLea
28-07-2009, 23:00
Ok right then, so if we say some time between 24th and 28th of August... we'll see if there are more people interested (see what day they can do... ) and find a definate date before you go away Abbie?
I think I got my driving instructor to pencil in a lesson for 21st. So maybe then and I can drive to the train station rather than getting the bus.
Ok :)
Its just when ive gone long distances Ive found I can get it really cheap in some weekdays
And omg Ive just thought of something, I will have to check what days im dancing cos of the show. Plus weekends can be awkward for me anyway cos of work
