EastEnders star Bobby Davro has decided to quit his role as Vinnie Monks after just one year.

The actor revealed his decision to producers this week after being offered a new lucrative project. He has also been approached to star in a Christmas pantomime.

"I have had a fantastic year with EastEnders and made lots of friends," Davro told The Mirror. "I hope to be back at some point."

Executive producer Diederick Santer added: "We've really enjoyed having Bobby with us at EastEnders. I hope this is not so much goodbye as see you later."

Davro will bow out in the autumn, but his on-screen son Callum, who appears for the first time next month, will provide him with a link back to Albert Square.

A show insider explained: "Bobby has been a real hit with EastEnders fans and it has been mutually agreed he will leave the show shortly but a return is quite possible. With his on-screen son set to arrive, that will enable him to visit Walford next year if he has to come back to sort out any problems."

pathetic, he's not been in it five seconds, nor had a decent decision and he's already quitting? what a joke, it's actors like him that ruin the show, no sooner has a character been set up, they're off. I just hope Shirley stays put!

I quite liked his scenes with Ricky - he was starting to build up to be a good character...typical that he has decided to leave now!

i dont know if i'd want to see Shirley with Phil now that Suzie has been introduced, as she looks like an interesting match for Phil.

I'd rather have Shirley and Phil together than Suzy and Phil. Suzy annoys me already

Well im not that bothered and if the rumours are true of Shirley and Suzie going to war for Phil there is not much point of his character staying and whats the point of his son staying ????????

i know, whats the point in his son even turning up in the first place? i know when he was cast they didnt know vinnie was leaving but now it just seems a bit silly, surely his son was cast cos hes there no other reason

I can't see what they will do with his son now Vinnie is leaving, unless they bring him in as a character that isn't Vinnie's son? Or they could bring him in as Vinnie's son.. and make the character interact with other characters pretty quickly, so he has reason to stay.

Bobby Davro decided to quit EastEnders after being approached to take part in I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!, according to a report.

The Daily Star claims that the actor, who plays Vinnie Monks, snapped up a £100,000 offer to join the jungle in the next series.

"It's all been kept very hush-hush, but it's a good deal," an insider told the newspaper. "We tried to get Bobby a few years ago but he always resisted. Now he finally appears to be up for a laugh in the jungle."

Reports at the weekend suggested that Davro had quit in favour of a new project. He has also been in talks to star in a Christmas pantomime.

Speaking last week, Davro explained: "I have had a fantastic year with EastEnders and made lots of friends. I hope to be back at some point."

Maybe EastEnders will actually agree with him before he finishes filming that he can come back, and use his son as part of his way back. If Phil and Shirley get together then unless he was really determined to fight to get her back there'd be no point to him coming back for her. Unless he's actually used as part of Vinnie's exit storyline - the son could be after him for something and Vinnie hears about it and runs away maybe.

I'm not that fussed on Vinnie and Shirley as a couple now. I really liked them together at first and really wanted her to catch up with him when he left those biscuits outside the tube. I don't like Phil and Suzy either, Stars. Phil and Shirley could be interesting.

Did he not like the BBC jungle?

Nothing to do with the actor, but i'm glad he's gone. I find his character really boring, and his purpose for the last year has only been to chase after Shirley. I just don't understand though what was the point of casting his son if he isn't going to be around. :hmm:

He probably decide to leave after the decision was made. Now the BBC are stuck with another pointless character lol

Lovable rogue Vinnie Monks waves goodbye to Albert Square – and his clothes.

The cheeky chap makes plans to leave Walford to go off on a rally-driving jaunt.

But son Callum is convinced it’s just another of his dad’s fantasies and bets him the rally car won’t turn up to whisk him away.

Whoever loses will have to strip naked and run around the Square.

Callum can’t believe his eyes when the car actually arrives – but Vinnie agrees to strip with him.

And the two men cause more than a few raised eyebrows as they drive around the square naked.

An EastEnders insider said: “Callum loves his dad but doesn’t believe him when he reveals that he’s heading off to join a rally.

“He thinks it’s all another one of his ideas that just won’t happen.

“So you can imagine his face when the car turns up.

“He’s absolutely mortified at the prospect of running around the Square naked – but a bet’s a bet. He knows he has to go through with it. But Vinnie decides he can’t let his son do it alone and he can’t think of a better way to leave an impression on the locals.

“The scenes are hilarious and are a great way for someone like comedian Bobby Davro to leave the soap.

“He’s been a huge hit with the viewers since he started in August 2007 and hopefully he won’t be gone for too long.”

Fans of the hit BBC1 soap will be able to watch all the action involving Vinnie and Callum’s naked antics a week tomorrow.

He was on Who's Doing The Dishes? recently. If money has dried up, being from Santer era, he might be in...
