CORONATION Street was branded Sickie Street last night — because so many stars are taking time off ill.
Scenes have had to be SCRAPPED because of no-shows.
A source said: “They’re dropping like flies — it’s more like Sickie Street these days and the bosses are getting worried.”
Newly single Kym Ryder, 32, (barmaid Michelle Connor) recently missed a day’s filming.
Johnny Dixon, 18, (Darryl Morton) called in poorly last Friday. Both absences hit production.
Their time off came just weeks after Simon Gregson, 33, (Rovers Return landlord Steve McDonald) and Ryan Thomas, 23, (builder Jason Grimshaw) were forced to take time out because of illness.
Soap bosses had to tinker with filming schedules after Simon was off for a fortnight with a mystery bug. Ryan was away for two days with laryngitis.
A spokesman confirmed several scenes had been scrapped due to illness. All the Coronation Street cast will be out in force tomorrow night at the Granada Studios in Manchester for the soap’s annual summer party.
CORRIE’S corner shop owner Dev Alahan and EastEnders’ black single mother Denise were cited as examples of “stereotyping and tokenism” in soaps in a report commissioned by Channel 4.
The X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing and The Apprentice got the thumbs-up from minority viewers.
