Several regional variations of BBC One and ITV have been added to the Freesat electronic programme guide.

Digital Spy forum members reported the addition of BBC One South West, North West, West Midlands and South and ITV West Yorkshire and Meridian South yesterday.

Freesat launched with a limited lineup of BBC and Channel 3 variations, and only the London Channel 4 advertising region, in May.

The operators blamed "technical constraints associated with co-existence on the satellite platform", and a commitment to add the variations last month was not met.

Free to air satellite transmissions of the Channel 4 regional feeds, used only to vary adverts, have also appeared today.

A Freesat spokesman told DS that no timescale could be confirmed immediately, but that a general announcement on regions would be made later in the week.

Freesat today announced the additions of 22 regional variations of BBC One and Channel 3 to the TV service.

Emma Scott, Freesat managing director, said: "We’re extremely pleased to be completing the roll out of BBC and ITV regional services on Freesat... We look forward to welcoming more channels onto Freesat in the next month."

For BBC One, the West, South East, South, South West, North East & Cumbria, Oxford, West Midlands, North West, Yorks & Lincs, Yorkshire, East Midlands and East regions have joined, completing the total of 18.

The new additions for Channel 3 are West, Central East, West Country, Central South, Border Scotland, Meridian South, Meridian East, Yorkshire West, Anglia South and Tyne Tees North. There are now 21 Channel 3 regions listed on the electronic programme guide, according to Freesat, though several sub-regions remain unavailable.

The variations provided at Freesat channels 101 and 103 are selected by the postcode entered during setup of the receiver. New channels, including the regions, are intended to appear in the Freesat EPG without a retune, scan or reset.

Freesat launched in May with very limited regional variations, blaming "technical constraints associated with co-existence on the satellite platform", and a commitment to complete the lineup last month was not met.

Free to air satellite transmissions of the Channel 4 regional feeds, used only to vary adverts, also appeared yesterday, suggesting they may soon be integrated into Freesat.

Freesat (http://www.freesat.co.uk/index.php?page=features.Main) is basically freeview except there are 80 digital channels (like you would get on Sky), including HD channels, received through a dish.

Click on the brochure link on the left hand side to see the channels available.

You need to buy a freesat box and a dish to get the service.

I'm just looking at the channel list.
Aljazeera  Why would I want to watch that

Might be a better investment than a twin tuner since they are about the same price...

Actually, if you want to watch news it is not a bad channel. Not too many news about what is happening in the UK, fair enough, but what is going on in the Middle East, this is important to some, my hubby goes to work there a couple of times a year, so I tune into this one occasionally. And of course, there are all the Sheiks in London who need to keep up with what is going on. :)
