I've always preferred EastEnders to Hollyoaks but over the past couple of years I have noticed the decline of quality in EE and the increase of quality in HO.

I mean the recent death (Max) storyline in HO was amazing, very emotional, heart wrenching and dramatic, the last time I saw this in EE was when jamie died (like 8 years ago or something).

Not only are the storylines better in HO but the following also:

- Acting
- Music Choice
- Editing
- Characters
- Humour

I don't think that I am the only one who realises this because it is winning more and more awards each year and has now become my number 1 soap.

Agree / Disagree

Hollyoaks does not do it for me, I am afraid, it is a good soap but not #1.

Yes I couldn't agree with you more. Over the years Hollyoaks has always got some stick for all the beautiful actors and trashy storylines. But I personally think the producers have dealt with some really important issues within modern society in a positive way, for example Hannah Ashworth's eating disorder and John Paul's homosexuality. Also performances from actors such as Chris Fountain and Ellis Hollins prove the show has outstanding talent.

That's why I urge you to vote for the cast in this year's National Television Awards everyone! They deserve it for all their hard work and fantastic storylines. I have provided a link below...do it...vote Hollyoaks!

I totally agree! I like how they don't rush into things like the drug storyline, yes it might be going on for ages, but it's realistic! EE seemed to make Chelsea addicted to Cocaine after one week and then the next week...she'd got over it!

I like the music they use - and how you can go on the website and see what the songs are :D

Some of the characters annoy me but I guess that's what you have to cope with in every soap! :p

I haven't watched HO as much as I used to in the early days, but I do agree that it handles storylines better than some other soaps. I put that down to Phil Redmonds input. Brookside was never shy of confronting Taboo issues.

It's not only the present storylines that are better when I have come to think about it I mean the fire at the dog that killed a bunch of students was a great episode, the late night episodes were excellent, baby Graces death was dark insight and also when Tom ran away, in my opinion none of the other soaps do this enough and when they do they cannot pull it off with as much passion and intensity.

Its a good soap and handles issues in storylines very well. If it was on BBC1 or ITV, I think it would get more recognition for this.

I know in the past people have just said it was a purely teenagers soap which was bordering on being soft porn - I remember reading the soft porn remark in the paper, and too be honest at the time, I think it was a justified remark.

this week has been brilliant, all the stuff surroundinfg max has had me in tears, carley stenson who plays steph has been amazing, but so has everyone else, little tom deserves a oscar.

they need to get rid of louise and boraden warrens range besides - tough nutter

let nancy be happy with ravi, and give russ a storyline!

the only weak point for me is the valentines, try as hard as i can i just dont get them!! samantha holden was brill as bernice in emmerdale but is crap in this, her fake accent is awful and i really dont give a monkey's hairy bum if sasha goes back on the crack, their saving grace is the guy who plays danny - he is the only one of them who can act!!

Not the best soap, in my opinion, but it has improved a lot in the last 2-3 years. The storylines are always acted really well, and they have the confidence to deal with tough issues that are big issues in our modern world, which other soaps do not give any recognisation.
