The next season of 24 will take place four years after the events of the previous season.

The New York Post reports that series regular Chloe O'Brien will now have a four-year-old son at the beginning of Day Seven of 24, to be screened in January 2009. The character was only in the early stages of pregnancy during Day Six.

A spokesman from producer Fox said: "We've always built in significant passages of time between seasons of 24 for dramatic purposes. Luckily, like all great iconic characters, Jack Bauer is ageless."

The forthcoming seventh season of 24 has been delayed by one year due to the writers' strike in America.

i dont get this timeshift idea that all american dramas seem to be using at the moment. desperate housewives, one tree hill, lost...

Jack Bauer must be at least 50 now  seriously it's good to know that Chloe is still surviving and will appear in Day 7

Wahoooo - Chloe is back, Jack is back

Can't wait.

I think 24 has to have a timeshift though Bry, I mean, as brilliant as Jack is, going through this too in normal time would be a complete nightmare!!

After the end of day 6 Jack was in a deep dark depressing state. He needs time to recover so we can have the Bad Ass Jack back we love.

Exactly Kath - he needed these 4 years to get through what he had to - to come out the other side the Jack that we both love and can share with each other (alternate weekends sound good to you?? :D) - if it had followed straight on, it just wouldn't be right or work.
