View Full Version : Gay kiss Heinz ad draws 175 complaints
Not sure where to put this, hope here is ok.
A Heinz mayonnaise television advert featuring a kiss between two men has attracted more than 175 complaints since it began airing on June 16.
Viewers have contacted the Advertising Standards Authority claiming the commercial is "offensive", "inappropriate" and "unsuitable to be seen by children".
The advert sees a man making sandwiches for a young boy and girl, who address him as "mum", while another man prepares for work. Before the second man leaves with the children he shares a kiss with "mum", who adds: "Love you. Straight home from work, sweet cheeks."
The ASA has yet to decide whether it will investigate the advert, which is scheduled to run for another month.
I find this advert rather funny and not offensive, inappropriate or unsuitable to be seen by children. They don't exactly share a kiss, it is a quick peck on the cheek. Don't understand what the fuss is about. :searchme:

Unfortunately Britain still has narrow minded bigots who are sad enough to complain about a TV advert that goes against the norm.
Completely ridiculous that anyone would complain about this - how exactly is it offensive to children?
crying shame to be seeing news articles like this in the 21st century
i still protest that people who phone up and complain about tv shows/adverts are total sad acts with nothing better to do with their time

Wow. This truly shows that people have nothing better to do than complain about an advert! People read into this stuff wayy too much! It's so silly!! I actually like the advert and laugh everytime I watch it because it's something different for once!

Mayeb Gay's don't like seeing men and women kissing, but you don't hear of them ringing in to complain every time it happens! :wall:

I agree.
People have absolutely nothing better to do. People who complain about silly things like this are just the busybodies who want to have a sense of purpose.
It just shows how pathetic we now are as a nation.
Only recently, I read a news report about how a particular council has banned the phrase "brainstorming" in case it offends sufferers of epilepsy and other brain problems/injuries etc, we had the case of baa baa black sheep being banned by a couple of places and now this.
Ok, so its a male kiss, but its not like they are (apologises in advance) shoving their tongues down each others throats is it!!!
I just seen it on youtube. there is nothing in it at all... my god, who are these people who complain??? have they nothing better to do..I have seen worse on the George Michael Outside video and in the simpson's movie

An advert for mayonnaise which showed two men kissing each other has been pulled after 202 people complained that is was 'offensive'. The Heinz television commercial was also branded 'unsuitable for children' by parents who contacted the Advertising Standards Authority. 'They didn't like the fact that their children had seen it and they didn't like that they had to explain to their children why two men were kissing,' said an ASA spokesman. Nigel Dickie, from Heinz, apologized and said the clip was meant to be 'humorous'. But gay rights group Stonewall said it was shocked by Heinz's decision and called for a boycott of the company's products.
Sorry, I think that all parties are blowing this somewhat out of proportion. I find the ad funny, never thought it was taking the mick out of gay couples and I think if the parents of those kids could not say it was meant to be a funny ad, they probably installed their own uncomfortable attitude with same sex couples into their kids. We laughed at Morecambe and Wise together in bed, never thought anything strange about that and that was 30 years ago. Get a life, moaners.

oh ffs, connor has seen 2 men, 2 women kissing before, on tv in a music vid and also in street! he dosent find it weird or even asked questions! These days i cant see the big problem with it and all it takes is a quick 'sometime men love women, sometimes men love men answer' and most kids are happy!

That's sooo pathetic :thumbsdow
Sorry but how on earth do people expect us to develop as a society if everyone wants to wear rose coloured glasses and fails to accept anything?? :wall:

some kids get a bit more curious than that, i think it depends how much of a protective enviorment they live in.

when Marley was in P1 there was a girl in the other P1 class who's parents had split up and the mother had got involved in a lesbian relationship. By the time Marley had reached P3 the mother had sold the house and moved her female partner in. Not once has Marley asked what is going on as these two women have gone on to have a child using the good old turkey baser method.
And there was me thinking society had changed and we cared for our human race no matter what colour, creed, sexual preference or whatever we were!!
Like Perdita said, no one blinked an eyelid when Morcombe and Wise were in bed together, and back then, I could quite have expected it tbh!
Absolutely bimming pathetic - I almost wish Mary Whitehouse was alive again!!!
Don't understand what the fuss is about. If parents can't talk about same sex relationships with their children then thats their problem. I'm guessing some of the complaints were homophobic based.
Obviously those 200 parents don't have anything better to do with their children apart from complain. Surprised they went to ASA and not the top dogs.
