View Full Version : Present for godson?
Okay I've been asked to be godfather to my cousin's baby and it's just dawned on me I should get him a gift, and with me being godfather it cant just be any old tat.
So basically is there any set traditons of gifts that godparents get their godchildren? If not, has anyone got any suggestions of a nice gift?
I'm male, I have no imagination when it comes to these kind of things! :D

yes.. anything silver... egg cup, spoon, bracelet
Congratulations on the honour of becoming a godparent.
Some godparents open a savings account or get a Premium Bond for their godchild. My son was given a small silver necklace with a St Christopher from his godmother, I would not let him wear it once he went to kindergarten as I was worried he might lose it, he wore it just for special occasions then. But he has still got it, although of course the necklace is too small now for him to wear (he is a grown-up). Have you asked your cousin what she might like for her son or have you spoken to other members of the family about their ideas?
I've just looked online for a few different ideas. Some people have suggested buying a tree, which will grow over time.
Others say to start a library for him, with some children's classics, and then add to the library every easter/birthday/christmas.
Both seem like nice ideas, but aren't very conventional!

A bracelet is a good one - even for boys.
My mum & dad were asked to be godparents a couple of weeks ago for our friends' daughter Kasie. They got her a little silver bracelet from the 'd' for diamond range.

I got christening scrolls, bracelet and silver photo frame when Charley was christened.. I still have them all and they are really beautiful. She also got an account open which is helping for her communion coming up next year
I also got a silver case which holds her first tooth and curl.. it was from the disney range

I've got a bracelet for Marley with her name on it but there are a lot of christening gifts around maybe a photo album or you can open a savings account for him. if you want something unique what about buying him a star.

I agree with Perdita about opening a savings account, i think quite a few people do that.
i got something religious for mine, like a crucifix i think. can't really remember.
My son had a first edition book from his godparents. They thought he would be able to sell it when he's older.
