Monday, 23 June 2008


Besieged by money problems, Val (Charlie Hardwick) realises that desperate measures are called for and confesses to a shocked Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) that she’ll have to consider selling her share of the pub. However, when she overhears Jimmy (Nick Miles) saying that he wants to invest in property to do up and sell on, she sells him the idea of converting the factory into apartments. Later she tells Pollard that she could get £150,000 for her share of the pub. Elated, Pollard (Chris Chittell) thanks her. However she then brings the other option of the King brothers buying out the factory? How will Pollard react to his wife's suggestion?

Meanwhile, Gennie (Sian Reese-Williams) and Eli (Joe Gilgun) battle to offload the smoothie maker. Gennie approaches Viv (Deena Payne) and attempts to convince her of what a money spinner it could be. Gennie gives in and lets Viv have a free trial and begrudingly the trainee Dingle agrees but withdraws money from her post office account in an attempt to fool Eli into thinking she made a successful sale.

Tuesday 24 June

Pollard (Chris Chittell) is forced to break the news to the workers that he has no orders and no wages and so the factory will have to close. Sam (James Hooton) follows Pollard outside and sympathises with his predicament but offers to work for free until he’s back on his feet. Touched, Pollard explains that it will make no difference and makes an off the cuff remark that it would have been better if the factory had just gone up in smoke.

Sam, eager to help out, takes his words literally and confides in Eli (Joe Gilgun) who immediately gets on board. Going into the factory he talks Sam into helping him rid the place of anything he may be able to sell after the fire. Spying the electric heater, Eli decides that together with all the fabric around, he has the winning combination. Putting the finishing touches to the fire, Eli and Sam flee the factory. How will Pollard react when he hears his factory has gone up in flames?

Meanwhile, Jake (James Baxter) and Jasmine (Jenna-Louise Coleman) continue their flirtation, an act that doesn’t go unnoticed by Daz (Luke Tittensor). When he sees Jake staring at Jasmine as she works, Daz points this out. Will Jake admit his feelings to his friend?

Elsewhere, Ashley (John Middleton) and Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) take Gabby (Annelise Manojlovic) to the psychologist. They are relieved to hear that the psychologist is satisfied with the love shared between the three of them, but reveals that Gabby thinks that she too will be swapped. He urges them just to be honest with her.

Wednesday 25 June

Carl (Tom Lister) is worried when Donald (Michael Jayston) has a funny turn and offers to take him to the hospital. Donald is insistent that he’s had enough of hospitals for a lifetime and says he’ll lie down on the sofa instead. How will Donald react when her finds out that Carl has called a doctor?

Meanwhile, the fire officer informs Val (Charlie Hardwick) and Pollard (Chris Chittell) that it is a strong possibility that the electric heater started the fire. Pollard is secretly relieved as it all points towards it being an accident but Val is furious and immediately blames Pearl (Meg Johnson). Storming round, Val confronts her over her alleged stupidity leaving Pearl distraught. When Pollard realises what she’s done he has no choice but to reveal that Sam (James Hooton) started the fire. Will Val go to the police?

Lisa (Jane Cox) lets slip to the other workers about Pollard’s apartment plans and tells Pearl not to blame herself. When Pollard confronts her about the rumours, she refuses to deny them and warns Pollard that the villagers will fight him every step of the way.


Thursday 26 June

Terry (Billy Hartman) sees Pollard (Chris Chittell) and Matthew (Matt Healy) in discussion and suspects that the Kings are behind the ensuing development. Terry confronts Matthew and reminds him that the last time the last Kings development ended in the death of the mother of his son, and threatens to not give him a minute’s peace if he attempts another one. All factors taken into account, will Matthew tell Pollard that the deal’s off?

Over at the Woolpack, when Val (Charlie Hardwick) asks Marlon (Mark Charnock) to warm up some gazpacho soup, he loses it and orders her out of the kitchen leaving her fuming. Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) gently suggests that he stick to the cooking and drop the drama queen act, however when the new manager of Malt drops in and offers him a job, Marlon is given food for thought.

Meanwhile, Carl (Tom Lister) berates Donald (Michael Jayston) when he finds him in the office and insists that he lie on a lounger in the garden with only a book and radio to keep him company.Touched by Carl’s help, Donald insists that it won’t go unrewarded.


Friday 27 June

Although Val (Charlie Hardwick) has already announced that the Wooklpack has won the pub of the year contest, Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) arrives with the judge who is forced to explain that Val has got the wrong end of the stick. The Woolpack received top marks but only for food – their service let them down. Therefore whilst they are runners up, The Malt won the competition. Marlon (Mark Charnock) turns on Val and a war of words ensues. Donna (Verity Rushworth) tries to calm Marlon down but will he have made up his mind about the Malt job?

Feeling terrible, Sam (James Hooton) offers to help Pollard (Chris Chittell) rebuild the factory but he insists he’s helped enough. As he drowns his sorrows in the pub, he blames Val for getting him involved with the Kings in the first place. Will Val be able to console her husband?

Meanwhile, at Mulberry Cottage, Mel (Caroline Strong) asks Ashley's (John Middleton) permission to take Arthur (Billy Harrower) to a baby signing class and although not sure he is persuaded when she insists that it’s only a couple of hours a week. Later Mel delivers the good news to Greg.

Poor Pollard and Val their factory up in smoke. Bad move by Ashley letting Mel take Arthur out.
