Ratings for EastEnders took a dip last night as a large audience watched Euro 2008 coverage on ITV1.

The tournament's opening matches failed to attract big numbers over the weekend but a sizeable 6.2m, or 30.1% of the total viewing audience, tuned in to see Italy take on the Netherlands. The full coverage between 7.30pm and 10pm was seen by 5.6m (27.2%).

BBC One's 8pm EastEnders instalment drew only 6.4m (31.3%) - down 2.1m from the episode in the same slot last week.

Springwatch recorded another good audience for BBC Two from 8pm with 3.3m (16%), while 845,000 (4.1%) watched The Gadget Show on Five.

Channel 4 drew 745,000 (3.6%) from 8pm for Dispatches programme Gordon Brown: Where Did It All Go Wrong?

Well compared to Eastenders the match happned to be very exciting. 3 - 0 the dutch. and there was the riduculas decision of the referee to allow the goal even though Van Nistelroy was offside and the man from Italia was on the floor injured was deemed still in play. Very exciting stuff!

no seriously now though, something that happenes once every four years and two good sides the italians ans the dutch people are bound to watch it. I think the if any the British teams had made it the ratings would drop even more.

I think you can't really go by the ratings too much these days because of the multiple opportunities to watch certain programmes at a later time. These days, if you have all the required bits and bobs, you never need to miss an episode of your favourite programmes.
