A young theatre student has landed the role of Lucy Beale's mysterious new boyfriend.

Bart Edwards, who attends Tring Arts Educational School, was discovered by one of the show's directors during a musical and has since been cast in the role of Olly, secret boyfriend to wayward Walford teen Lucy Beale (Melissa Suffield).

Speaking of his part, Edwards told hemeltoday: "It is just amazing. Everybody is lovely on the set. I watch EastEnders…but I never expected to be on TV with those people."

The 19-year-old, who describes his character as "a laid back person who takes each day as it comes", will first appear on screens next month.

Played by a 19 year old; I guess Ian isn't going to be happy with the age gap then! Looking forward to this after Lucy was on the phone to him even after saying she didn't have a boyfriend.

Hmm. Wonder how he manages to get in there. Must have been what Lucy told him on the phone would be, "easier than she thought." Maybe she blackmails him threatening to run off again or convinces Ian that her boyfriend is homeless and he feels sorry for him.

Sic :wall: , it would be highly unlikely that a father of a 13 year old would let her boyfriend move in, and yes, I would be worried about the 'next level' if my daughter was that young.

Yeah, and Lucy being 14 rather than 13 won't fill Ian with confidence that she won't have sex either. Especially not after the Craig business.
