Paul Fox will join the cast of Casualty, reports the Holby Gazette.

The former Coronation Street actor will take on the role of Simon Turner, who arrives on the show this month as a clinical nurse manager.

His character will run a private minor injuries clinic within an NHS hospital, something that will put him at odds with the rest of the staff.

Fox played Mark Redman, the long-lost son of Mike Baldwin, in Coronation Street. He has also appeared in The Royal and Starhunter.

The character will make his first appearance on Casualty on May 31.

Former Coronation Street actor Paul Fox is joining the cast of CASUALTY this month.

Paul plays the role of Simon Tanner, who is appointed as clinical nurse manager of the new minor injuries clinic, one of Marilyn Fox's initiatives.

Simon has no qualms about the role of a private clinic within an NHS hospital, he just believes in getting things done, regardless. He sees it as a 'modern' solution, and doesn't worry about the moral side of things, or any potential consequences. His innate self-belief and confidence grates with some of his colleagues, and his motivation is money, even though it might be in the guise of something more worthy. Simon is the antithesis of core members of the Holby ED team, stalwarts like Charlie and Maggie who have dedicated their careers to the NHS, and for whom Simon's approach is the thin end of the wedge.

Paul is most noted for his role as Mark Redman in ITV soap Coronation Street. His other past TV credits include The Royal and Starhunter.

Paul will debut from episode 39, which is due to be screened on 31st May.
