It's the morning after the night before for Liam. He's horrified when he wakes up on Carla's sofa with a thick head. Knowing Maria will be furious, he leaves immediately but Carla is more than a little smug knowing the trouble he will be in.
Meanwhile, Maria is indeed furious, especially when she hears from Claire that Carla sent Liam's cab away. She leaves Liam to recover from his hangover and heads out to work. A busy day at the salon is just the distraction Maria needs from her concerns about Liam and Carla. Marcus pops in for a trim; he can tell she is tired and assumes it is the baby keeping her awake.
Maria puts him straight - Liam is the one causing her problems and the baby has been quiet for days. Marcus is amused by Liam's behaviour but can't help but be concerned about Maria's baby not moving. He insists she pay a visit to the hospital and she agrees just to keep him quiet.
Refusing to take a hungover Liam with her, she asks Marcus to go instead, convinced nothing is wrong. However events take a devastating turn when first the midwife and then the sonographer fail to find a heartbeat...
Over at the café, Roy is also furious with Becky who stayed out all night and didn't tell him she wasn't coming home. She apologises but he is less than impressed to discover she spent the night with Jason.
Jack is feeling the stress of Paul's confession over the arson and Molly and Tyrone are concerned about his health. Meanwhile, the repercussions of Paul's visit to the police are felt over at the bookies when Leanne and Dan are taken away for questioning. Is the game up for Weatherfield's very own Bonnie and Clyde?
Elsewhere, Audrey tells Rita that she is meeting Ted and she worries how he will react when he finds out he has a daughter.
Maria is numb with the news that he baby has died. The registrar explains that she will have to go home and come back tomorrow to deliver the baby. Having failed to reach Liam on his phone, she heads home to discover he has gone to work. She calls Underworld but reaches Carla who starts having a go at her.
Desperate to find Liam, she heads for the pub and finds him with Steve discussing fatherhood. In a state of shock, she tries to get him to go home but as he starts to apologise and tell her how much she and the baby mean to him, she can't find the words to tell him what has happened.
Roy is not amused when he finds Becky serving Jason outside the cafe, despite him being barred. He can't understand Becky's behaviour after the way Jason treated her, but Becky is so thrilled that Jason is showing an interest that she ignores Roy's fatherly concerns and sees it as interfering.
Audrey is nervous at the thought of meeting Ted but the years soon melt away and they are chatting like the old days. But Audrey knows she has to tell Ted the truth about Gail. How will he react when he discovers he has a 50-year-old daughter?
Janice is increasingly worried about the mess that Leanne has got herself into this time. She knows she must have had something to do with the fire and Leanne has no choice but to confess to her step-mum. But Leanne seems more concerned with the fact that she won't now get the insurance pay out than the more serious consequences of her actions.
Wednesday
Unaware of the inner turmoil Maria is hiding, Liam is furious with her for sleeping on the sofa. Maria still can't find the right way to tell Liam about the baby and as he leaves for work, she packs her bag for the hospital.
Marcus sees a downbeat Liam and assumes he knows about the baby, but when he realises he doesn't, Marcus manages to cover and heads straight for the hospital.
A terrified Maria is relieved to see him and he agrees to stay whilst she delivers the baby. The labour is traumatic for everyone and Maria finally delivers a perfect baby boy - as she holds him in the eerily silent delivery room her tears start to flow.
Meanwhile, back on the Street, Liam is angry with Maria for disappearing and Audrey is less than impressed that she hasn't turned up for work. Carla is revelling in the trouble she has caused, unaware of the tragedy unfolding over at the hospital.
Paul tells Jack, Molly and Tyrone that he has been charged and will be up in court next week. He is convinced he will go down. Tyrone can't hide how pleased he is but Jack wants to pay for a better solicitor. Paul, however, is having none of it - he owes Jack too much and he won't let him waste any more money. The only thing keeping Paul going is knowing that Leanne has not got away with it either.
Janice is still furious with Leanne who decides to stay with Dan to get away from Janice's disapproval. But Harry isn't much better and makes it clear that her staying over is a short-term measure.
Friday
Maria is alone at the hospital and knows she will have to go home to face the music sooner rather than later. She checks out and heads back to the Street but panics when she spots Liam and asks the taxi driver to take her to Audrey's.
Meanwhile, at the salon, Audrey receives a distraught phone call from her and heads home to find out what is wrong. As Maria breaks down, Audrey is sure it is to do with Liam and urges Maria to calm down for the baby's sake. When will Maria break her silence about the tragedy?
Unaware of why Audrey has suddenly disappeared, Bill is convinced that her strange behaviour has something to do with the mysterious Ted Page. He asks Gail if she knows anything about him and is stunned when a perplexed Gail tells him that Ted is her father and she has no idea Audrey had been in touch with him.
Vernon is excited about the cruise trip but is gutted when Liz tells him that she can't leave the pub. He refuses to go without her but she insists he does. She later confides in Deirdre that she couldn't bear the thought of spending 24 hours a day trapped on a ship with Vernon. Deirdre is concerned about the state of her friend's marriage if she can't even go on a cruise with her hubby.
Leanne and Dan are relieved when they discover that they are off the hook with the police. But Leanne is left shaken when Paul tells her that he is pleased that she has been left with the debt for the restaurant and that the criminal record he will have will be worth it knowing she is suffering.
Elsewhere, Claire is confused when her debit card is refused and calls the bank to investigate.
