Just found this on DS....(It was from 5th April)

Big Brother 9 will launch on June 5 to avoid a ratings battle with Britain's Got Talent, according to reports today.

The Channel 4 reality series traditionally kicks off towards the end of May, but the network is believed to have delayed this year's launch because a clash with Talent would be too risky. Ratings for Big Brother 8 dropped below 3 million viewers when it competed against the ITV1 show last summer.

The new series is expected to last for 13 weeks, with the final airing on September 5.

Insiders have admitted that this year's run could be "make or break" for the show, though suggestions that the 2007 series was a flop have been played down.

One source told the Daily Star: "Last year was a success. We had superbitch Charley, the Ziggy and Chanelle romance, the sexy 'Samanda' twins and of course dopey Brian who ended up winning. But that was last summer. The new show is what matters. Big Brother 9 is make or break."

woah, how long is BGT going on for?!

The auditions will air on a Saturday for 7/8 weeks then there will be a full week of live shows with the final at the end of the week.

Seems channel four know they will lose out to Britain's Got Talent. Surely that tells them something...

Big Brother is just a platform for wannabes to get themselves on tv and launch their "careers." :thumbsdow :thumbsdow

That's exactly what I tell myself everytime! But I really did mean it last time lmao.

TBH I can't be bothered with it anymore. It's just an excuse for a bunch on nut jobs to get on tv and have their 15 minutes of fame.

Davina McCall has warned that housemates will suffer on this year's Big Brother.

The presenter said the ninth series of the show, which launches on June 5, will be the toughest yet for the contestants.

She told the Press Association: "Big Brother is no longer going to be lenient in any way, shape or form. If there's any kind of rule breaking, they're going to come down on them like a ton of bricks.

"You're not just going to be able to saunter into the Diary Room and go: 'Hi yeah, can I just get some gas for my curling tongs?' No, no, no, no - they're basically gonna make housemates suffer a bit more, which will be a good thing, I think."

She added: "We've been a bit soft the last couple of years. This is not a holiday camp, you know. This is an entertainment programme and we need a winner."

They need to do something to make it entertaining as we don't want to sit and watch them sunbathing and for 12 weeks. BB needs to bring back the rich/poor divide or make them earn there alchol and food allowance.

StarsOfCCTV
25-05-2008, 02:07
Yeah they should do something like that again. The task where they made everyone stay in boxes and last out won - they all stayed in there for like 10 hours  That task was funny :p

The first show is great when they introduce everyone and they show the new house :p

Chloe O'brien

To win the viewers votes BB contenstants need to be honest and truthful. If we go back to the early winners of BB with Craig, Brian and Cameron. they were themselves from day 1 they didn't pretend to put on an act or try to be something their not. BB needs to bring contestants in that are unique in their own way and not 15 minutes of fame wannabe fame grabbers.

it should be a boot camp not a holiday camp! none of this sitting around sunbathing for 13 weeks! that's not entertainment

i think they should start to make them house rivals rather than housemates, immunity battles etc, and for the tasks make it clear they will get rations if they dont pass

and please no mid series twist with a new batch of housemates! if you get the right bunch to start with there's no need to bring in others who the public wont attach to, and wont vote for.

doubt we'll see saturday tasks return, it's been a while since we saw them, bb5 was it? plus we didn't have any big bro of a saturday last year, dunno if they'll be continuing with that

i've heard it's going back to the 10pm slot every night, which should make it better, the last few years when it's been on at 9 it's been a bit pants, becuase they were aiming it at the teenage audience, so you had the likes of Nicki and Charley etc. Maybe this year going back to 10 it might go back to the way it used to be!

Davina McCall has revealed that she will be dressing like Katie Holmes when she presents Big Brother this summer.

The 40-year-old presenter described Holmes as her fashion heroine and said that her stylist is under strict instruction to help her look like the actress.

"My favourite style icon of the moment would be Katie Holmes," Davina explained. "I love what she's wearing so I said to my stylist 'think Katie Holmes, channel Katie Holmes'."

She added: "AJ, my stylist, is absolutely awesome at picking out clothes for me. She's my Gok Wan."

Big Brother 9 launches on June 5 on Channel 4.

Pictures of a new, larger Big Brother house have been released ahead of the embattled reality programme’s series nine launch next Thursday.

The house, decorated in the customary gaudy style, is the biggest that producer Endemol and broadcaster Channel 4 have constructed since the show began in 2000.

The house features a lavish living area and luxurious hot tub, juxtaposed with a military-style bedroom, fitted with basic bed frames and uncomfortably-thin mattresses. The garden, complete with the time-honoured pool and spa, is home to a giant ashtray to accommodate smoking contestants.

Producers will hope the photos capture viewers’ interest after scandal and low-ratings plagued previous series.

Despite a turbulent romance between contestants Ziggy Lichman and Channelle Hayes, Big Brother 8 ratings slumped to an average of 3.8 million. The show’s previous ratings low, during the sixth series, was 4.5 million.

The broadcaster cancelled this year’s Celebrity Big Brother after a race row erupted over contestants Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd and Jo O'Meara’s treatment of Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty during the 2007 series.

The high-rating show was replaced with a new format - Big Brother Celebrity Hijack – but it failed to capture the public’s imagination. The final was watched by just over half a million viewers, compared to the 2007 Celebrity Big Brother closing episode which pulled in 5.8 million.

The new series is already facing challenges as Davina McCall will return to present the show but TV favourite Dermot O’Leary will not be back to host spin-off programme Big Brother’s Little Brother. He will be replaced by George Lam and Zezi Ifore, while the series’ other partner show, Big Brother’s Big Mouth, will be hosted by a series of guest presenters.

Big Brother 9 launches at 9pm on Channel 4 on Thursday, June 5.

Housemates on Big Brother 9 are in for a rough ride, according to its executive producer. Phil Edgar-Jones says the series will be 'funny but evil'.

Broadcast magazine reports that a record 16 housemates will be introduced next Thursday and the show will run for 13 weeks in a year that's crucial to the fortunes of the onetime hit reality show.

Last year, Big Brother's ratings plummeted to an average 3.6 million viewers.

Edgar-Jones said: "we've told the housemates it will be full-on and there will be no leeway. We're getting tougher on wannabes and the causes of wannabes.

"We've been very careful with casting this year and there are some characters of the like you've never seen before.

"These are not your typical screaming wannabes, but people with a bit of depth, from different backgrounds. We want conflict but we don't want endless shouting."

In an echo of Big Brother 5, when the house was divided into rich and poor halves he said this series will be 'funny but evil'.

One tabloid report suggests the producers are going to make the housemates go hungry to stoke the flames of discontent.

Chanelle Hayes has claimed that Big Brother 9 contestants should be asked to nominate in front of each other.

The glamour model, who starred on the show last year, said that the format change would result in "heated rows" between housemates.

"If contestants had to nominate in front of each other every week, it would really spice things up," Chanelle told the Daily Star. "They would have to sort it out face-to-face and it would cause some pretty heated rows."

Hayes also revealed that she would like to see couples entering the house when the new series kicks off on June 5.

She said: "They would gang up against the others and imagine if one cheated - fantastic viewing."

I think this would be a good idea personally, BUT then again they'd be too cowardly to vote for people face to face, and would probably all choose the people who the first housemate votes for, making that first housemate seem like the harshest of the lot.

SCHEMING Big Brother bosses have not ruled out bringing back some familiar faces to spice up this year’s show.

With no other major events on this summer, they are determined to monopolise the viewing figures by coming
up with the most outrageous and daring stunts the show has ever seen.

Some of BB’s previous hit characters in the pipeline to return include winner Kate Lawler, 27, who is now the face of Anne Summers; Imogen Thomas, 25; Orlaith McAllister, 28; Michelle Bass, 27; Charley Uchea, 22, and Vanessa Nimmo, 30.

A senior BB source said: “It would be a real twist in the series to bring old housemates back.

“They’ve been there, got the T-shirt and know how to play the game.

“So it would really spice things up in the House, and undoubtedly wind up the current crop of wannabes, if some of them were to pop in.”

I don't think any old BB contestants should be allowed back into the house they have had their time, but if that's the way BB want to play it then I'm sure there are better housemates to bring back John Tickles for one, Helen, Bryan and Johnny. Housemates who were entertaining and funny not just slappers who need the money.

HOUSEMATES will gamble their food on a giant Las Vegas-style slot machine – not realising they need to LOSE.

Wannabes will be led to believe they have to hit the jackpot to win booze and treats.

But in an evil BB twist, contestants must lose to take the prizes.

And the housemates who think they’ve come up trumps will be starved – for a week.

Executive producer Phil Edgar Jones, 40, admits BB will get nasty.

He teased: “The series will be funny but evil. We’re getting tougher on wannabes and on the causes of wannabes.”

And a show insider, who has seen the fruit machine’s trial run, confided: “This one is being nicknamed Every Loser Wins. One by one, the contestants must play the machine. The ones who lose get treats.”

Meanwhile, past winners Nadia Almada, 31, Anthony Hutton and Pete Bennett, both 26, joined Channel 4 to film The Big Brother Launch Night Project, which airs next Thursday at 10.40pm – after the BB9 launch.

BB9 chiefs 'recruit blind contestant'

Big Brother producers have recruited a blind contestant for the new series, according to a report today.

The People claims that show chiefs are expecting a backlash over the decision but will strongly deny any accusations of exploitation.

A source told the newspaper: "BB is ready to take a blind person into the house. Everything possible has been done to make sure the person settles in and is not sidelined. The house has been designed in an accessible way. Bosses plan to do everything in their power to make sure the person's stay is comfortable and enjoyable."

The insider added: "After the racism issues with Jade Goody and Emily Parr they will go out of their way to avoid accusations that having a blind housemate is in any way wrong."

RNIB spokeswoman Ciara Smyth has already backed the decision. She said last night: "I think having somebody blind or partially sighted on Big Brother could be really positive in terms of changing people's attitudes to blindness."

So excited about this year's series now. :cheer: I may know someone who is going into the house too. Someone who goes to another sixthform by where I live applied and he has dissapeared off the face of the earth according to my friend, he may be going into the house.. I know of him so will look out for him on Thursday night.

Thought we could do some Big Brother predictions for fun too..:

I predict that when 1 contestant enters the house, all the other housemates will be confused on how to prenounce that contestant's name...

From Digitial Spy:

One day to go. The bane of my existence biggest TV show of the summer begins tomorrow!

Yesterday I was among the lucky few to tour the new Big Brother house, and boy did I make myself at home. I sat on their chairs, I lay on their beds, I... actually, I'll spare you details of what I did in the toilet. (It's not too late to install extractor fans, is all I'm saying).

Anyway, here's what I managed to glean about BB9. Scoop fans, you're in for a treat.

The Show
There will be sixteen housemates on launch night - the most ever to enter the house in one go. Predictably, producers are keeping quiet over the identities of the contestants, but did tease that there would be a "good balance among the sexes... and the sexualities". There is an over-50 in the lineup, and possibly someone who is 18, but no two housemates will be related to each other.

After Big Brother 9, Channel 4 has agreed to a further TWO series of the show. There is no official word on the return of Celebrity Big Brother in January 2009, but E4 replacement Celebrity Hijack was described as a "one-off experiment" that probably won't be repeated.

The Diary Room
Housemates will have to leave through the main entrance door, then wait in a small corridor before being allowed into the diary room. This extra space between the main house and the diary room has been created to ensure greater privacy when the housemates are speaking to Big Brother.

The entrance/exit stairs, which split into two and flank the diary room, will ordinarily be barricaded off by "child gates".

The diary room is slightly bigger than usual, with a plush red interior and a huge custom-built blue chair (modelled above right by yours truly).

The Living Room
Huge multi-seat sofas have been ditched in favour of numerous single and double-occupancy seats. A mystery blue hatch can be found in the living room, as well as the house's only plasma screen. The green and red mood lighting of Big Brother 8 will not be back.

For the first time ever the housemates will be able to accurately tell the time from a "discreetly-located" wallclock.

The Bedrooms
This year there are two bedrooms - and they couldn't be more different from each other. One, with a locker theme, is very small, has eight harsh single beds and is veeeeery cold. The other is decorated with a "regal" theme (lots of reds and golds) and features eight double beds - each adorned with many pillows and soft sheets - as well as an expansive enclave to store clothes and shoes. Housemates will get to choose which bedroom they sleep in after they enter on launch night.

The Bathroom
The bathroom is distinctly Roman in feel, with gold figurine statues, gold chrome taps and a bath capable of housing more than one guest. The bathroom is completely visible from the main living area - with only a tiny area of the shower screen protected by a tint. Thankfully the toilets remain a completely private affair.

The Jail
Producers promise that all rule breaks will be dealt with "consistently and harshly" this year. To that end, a tiny jail has been installed in the garden - and any misbehaving housemates will be duly quarantined there as a punishment.

The Hidden Extras
Secret rooms will NOT be a theme this year, although a mystery task room - accessed via an orange door in the garden - is expected to be redecorated to fulfil a number of functions.

Prepare to surrender your summer. Big Brother begins Thursday at 9pm on Channel 4 with a bum-numbing 100-minute launch show!

Big Brother goes green; introduces 'jail'

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t236/sparkle_w/0864_95044_BB9HouseJailDK0431.jpg

Big Brother housemates will have no excuse to complain about food rations - they will grow their own food this year.

Producers said this year's 16 wannabes will have to cultivate their own potatoes and carrots and season their food with herbs from the garden as they released the latest pictures of the house.

The snapshots show that a luxury bedroom and not just the uncomfortable dormitory-style room with short beds and scratchy blankets awaits this year's housemates.

The two bedrooms are intended to divide the contestants competing for fame and the £100,000 prize in the ninth series of the show.

Other changes include two staircases leading to and from the outside world, leading to speculation the housemates might arrive in pairs.

The diary room has been built under the stairs instead of directly in the house to make the contestants sitting on the diary room chair feel more cut off from their housemates.

As well as having boxes to grow vegetables in the garden, this year's 'green' Big Brother house means there is also a large recycling bin in the kitchen.

A luxury bedroom next to the garden features eight double beds complete with velvet cushions, a walk-in closet and burgundy and gold drapes.

A jail, in the form of a tiny claustrophobic area enclosed by metal bars in the garden, is ready for use if any housemates need to be punished. Big Brother starts on Thursday on Channel 4.

Sounds like a good set of housemates there. Today, reported in the Sun, they said a couple will be going in tonight but they will have to keep their relationship a secret from the other housemates, and fend off the advances of other "sex starved" housemates.. I will try and find the report..

Housemates were given their first glimpse of this year's meaner Big Brother when they discovered a jail in the garden.

The tiny prison stopped contestants in their tracks as they toured the outside area shortly after entering the house.

Alexandra and Luke were among those to notice the tiny punishment space.

Luke told the others: "I'm not looking forward to this."

The prison has a backdrop decorated with eyeless dolls' heads and comes complete with metal bars.
