CORRIE is having its very own credit crunch – as meek butcher Ashley Peacock and wife Claire face financial ruin.
Claire (Julia Haworth) discovers that Ashley (Steven Arnold) has been raiding their life savings to keep their butcher’s shop afloat.
The plot – set to air this month – mirrors the effect the financial crisis is having on thousands of Brits.
Furious Claire is mortified when her credit card is declined in a store and phones their bank to give them a piece of her mind.
But the bank tells her the card is over its limit – AND the current account has been stripped too.
Shamefaced Ashley tells her: “I’ll arrange a new limit and everything will be OK.”
But, just like in real life, their bank won’t extend the credit – so Claire cuts up Ashley’s cards.
Yet despite her drastic action they STILL end up losing their home, selling it to Sally and Kevin Webster.
A source said: “We keep our storylines current. People who are experiencing similar problems will identify with the plot.”
Peacock fans needn’t panic though – the shop is saved and the couple aren’t left homeless.
I thought the Websters are always crying poverty - now they can afford to buy a new house? Lucky for them to get a mortgage they can afford then if this is in line with current experience in real life!
