BBC Three comedy Gavin & Stacey has been named programme of the year at the BAFTA Television Awards.

The series beat The Apprentice, Strictly Come Dancing and Britain's Got Talent to the title, which is the only category voted for by the public.

Star and co-writer James Corden won the award for best comedy performance, ahead of Stephen Merchant (Extras) and David Mitchell (Peep Show).

woo well deserved, i love this show :cheer:

The Xmas special was the best thing on the tele this year!! Loved it. It was funny from start to finish.

I hope they do another series, because it just doesn't get old. I hope they get rid of Dave and make more of a thing between Nessa and Smithy again, because they are so funny when its just them two.

I love all the moments about the fishing trip!! Its so funny, really good acting. And the Eastenders bit cracked me up for ages.

Its great to see that more people watch this now. I watched from when Series 1 first aired and it took ages for it to get much credit. Great to see that lots more people realise how amazing it is :D

There will be a third series - Ruth Jones and James Cordon announced it on Ruth's radio show last week live which I'm so chuffed about.

We love it and I can't wait.

Have to say, I so wanted to smack Dave Coaches though - poor Smithy!

I love Alison Steadman in it, she has some racking lines her friends "Sue, Big fat Sue" and "Pam, no man Pam" and "japenese Margaret"

The barndance episode is fabulaous! with the linedance and inviting "Jean"

Gavin & Stacey co-creator James Corden has revealed that the show will end after the next series.

The BBC sitcom, starring Mathew Horne and Joanna Page, is due to return this year for a third series.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4, Corden said he and Ruth Jones would not revive it beyond series three, adding, "We might need some money. But the way it's looking at the moment, no."

Corden also dismissed speculation for any future specials of the show, despite the Christmas episode achieving high ratings.

The show's characters Vanessa Jenkins and Bryn West - aka actors Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon - are currently number one in the UK singles chart.

LUSH comedy legend Pam Ferris will soon be larkin' around in Gavin And Stacey - as Smithy's mum Kath.
The Darling Buds Of May star, 61, has been signed up by two of her biggest fans - the show's actor-writers James Corden and Ruth Jones.

Pam is the latest big name to join the award-winning sitcom - the cast already features Abigail's Party legend Alison Steadman and top stand-up comic Rob Brydon.

An insider told TV Biz: "Pam really is the icing on the cake - the only way they could make this better is by getting Sir David Jason to play Smithy's dad."

Look out for Pam this autumn when the show's third and final series will hit our screens.

That will be quality! she is brilliant  , so glad its back for another series but also quite glad its the last one as many series have been ruined by doing too many, but then again some could have easily gone on longer so i think it depends.

That really made more sense in my head!

COMICS VOW TO RETURN FANS looking forward to Gavin & Stacey’s comeback this month may have to wait years to see any more.

The new series on BBC1 had been billed as the last.

But star Ruth Jones, 42, says she and James Corden, 31, have not ruled out writing another series.

Ruth, who plays Nessa, said: “Although this is the last series, I don’t think it necessarily means the end of Gavin & Stacey.

“James and I have talked about how we’d like to do maybe a TV special at some point.

“It won’t be next year. It would be a few years down the line.

“It would be good to catch up with the characters in a few years. But we need to let the dust settle.”

i agree, i think its good as sometimes there can be too much of a good things, look at shameless, and i do think 3 is a good number, 2s a bit short but three is usually about right.

I loved the bit at the beginning with Smithy and Pam and Mick walks in "not this again, third time this week" and Pam goes off about how there son has emigrated to another country. I love ALison Steadman, shes so brilliant,

BBC slammed for releasing Gavin & Stacey DVD before show has finished TV run

A BBC Worldwide spokesman said it wanted to cash in on the 'Christmas gifting season' to make a profit for the BBC, 'which will benefit the licence fee payer'. Of course it will

DVDs of Pride and Prejudice and Mistresses have also been released in this way.

Last month a BBC Trust report promised to rein in activities of its commercial arm following anger when it bought travel publisher Lonely Planet for £90million.

Former deputy prime minister John Prescott is to make a cameo appearance in BBC comedy Gavin and Stacey.

Character Nessa Jenkins - played by co-writer Ruth Jones - has referred to him several times as one of her old flames.

Now he is set to appear at the wedding of Nessa and current love Dave Coaches in the last episode of the show's third and final series on New Year's Day.

Confirming the news on Twitter, Mr Prescott said: "Now you know what's occurin' on Jan 1!"

Nessa, known for her "what's occurin'" catchphrase, has talked about having "full use of the one of the Jags", referring to Mr Prescott's infamous love of upmarket cars.

After falling pregnant in the show, she even expressed regret that he was not the baby's father.

But the Labour MP is only one of a string of famous lovers Nessa tells tales about.

Actor Nigel Havers, comedian Russell Brand and all the members of Welsh band Goldie Lookin' Chain are former conquests, she claims.

Mr Prescott will appear in the show on BBC1 on 1 January.

Larry Lamb has suggested that Gavin & Stacey will return for a Christmas special.

Lamb, who played Gavin's father Mick in the sitcom, explained that viewers will want to know what happens to the characters.

According to the Daily Mail, he said: "There will be a Christmas special. Clearly the audience loves it and I would be very surprised if it did not come back for a Christmas episode.

"Viewers will want to know what happens to them all. I would hate to see it just die."

Meanwhile, a BBC source reportedly said that it would like some more one-off editions of the show "as a treat".

Lamb's fellow cast members have previously ruled out further episodes of the comedy, which finished on New Year's Day.

MUCH-LOVED comedy Gavin & Stacey WILL return, its co-writer Ruth Jones has confirmed.

A one-off special is being planned - giving viewers the chance to see how life turned out for the lovestruck couple.

Actress Ruth, who co-wrote the show with James Corden, revealed the comeback to fans in Barry, South Wales.

She said: "It looks like there will be a Gavin & Stacey special some time in the future. It will show how things worked out for Gavin and Stacey - and for Nessa and Smithy."

The last episode, screened in January, showed Ruth and James who play Nessa and Smithy, happily sitting on the seafront in Barry with their baby son Neil.

Alongside them were Essex boy Gavin and Welsh wife Stacey, played by Mat Horne and Joanna Page.

Ruth, 43, and Corden ruled out making another series of the Bafta-winning comedy.

But half a million fans signed a Facebook petition to production company Baby Cow, calling for its return.

An company insider said: "There are no plans for a new series but talks about a one-off special - perhaps for Christmas next year - are well under way.

Rob Brydon, who played Uncle Bryn, also raised the idea of a comeback.

Speaking at a charity event in Swansea at the weekend, he said: "There may be a special one day - it's being talked about."

Margaret John, best known for her role as straight-talking pensioner Doris in Gavin And Stacey, has died aged 84.

Her agent Gemma McAvoy said the Swansea-born actress died in the early hours of this morning in a hospital in the city after suffering a short illness.

She said: "Her career spanned 60 years and she did everything from film to television, radio and some amazing theatre roles.

"She used to say how she started playing lots of tragic roles and it was only later people recognised her great sense of humour.

"She had the most infectious love of life and an incredible sense of humour, and that is why people felt so warmly towards her.

"She felt like a friend to us all and not just a colleague and she will be sadly missed."

Margaret, a widow with no children, had a lengthy career that included appearances in the long-running Welsh series High Hopes and the forthcoming HBO show Game Of Thrones.

Her Gavin And Stacey co-star James Corden paid tribute to her on Twitter, writing: "All my thoughts are with the family of Margaret John who played Doris in G and S. A great actress and an incredible lady. She will be missed x."

BBC Cymru Wales director Menna Richards said Margaret was "a true Welsh national treasure".
