Hello Everyone,

I am sure that someone on here can help me with this.

I received my daughters school report with her levels at the moment (she is in year 8) and the grades that they think she will achive in her year 9 sats.

Most of her grades for now are between a level 5c - 5a(with the exception of Drama she got a 6C & Maths 6)

Could someone explain if these are good grades.

Most of the grades they think she will get in her sats range from a 5a - 6a (again with the exception of Drama they think she will get a 7 & English they also think she will get a level 7) Is this good?:searchme:

If someone could help me out on this that would be great.:cheer:

Also with the above grades will she do well in her GCSE's (like a grade A-C)

Thank you to anyone that can help:thumbsup:

Those are really goosd grades!!!

Like its goes : 5c, 5b, 5a, 6c, 6b, 6a and so on, if you get the idea

And if you do well in your stats you are likely to be placed in the higher sets for GCSE

I don't know if I can be of any help as i'm up in Scotland so we maybe slightly different and the year 8 confuses me up her we have primary school 1 to 7 then high school 1st year to 6th year. With standard grades I think it goes a 1 is fab and the higher the number the lower the grade sorry but I don't think a 6 or 7 is a good mark, but I maybe wrong. Its so different when I was a school you either got an A, B, or C or you failed.

Can anyone else enlighten me please.

Is my daughter doing well or should i be worried :searchme:

Well it was only 4 years since I was in year 8/9 and I can tell you those grades are great. The scotland system is different, higher level grades such as 5, 6 and 7 are good :D
Its when you do GCSE that they grade you A, B C and all that

I think a level 5 in year 9 stats are what is expected of children in england, 6 and 7 are above average.
I think so at least
I did the higher papers where 7 was the maximum and highest level you could get.
In some cases in maths you can get a level 8. Those in our school who did that paper did maths a year early as in GCSE in year 10, well if they got a level 8 that was. The higher the number the better the grade :D

I'll just mind my own beeswax Londoner as i've no idea how the grade works south of the border, and I'm just giving out the wrong info :) My daughter is still at primary school and she gets tested every 2 years for maths and english she is at level c, which she has acheieved a year before she was supposed to as she had until p6 aged 10 to do this. But as I said up here in Scotland our grading is different. Sorry again

SATS go from Level 3 - 7. They are sub-divided into A, B and C (A being the highest, C the lowest). So in Drama and English, she is expected the highest grade possible, a level 7.

They reckon if you get between level 5's and 7's, then you will get A*-Cs in your GCSEs, if you carry on improving at the same level.

As Abbie said, a level 5 is what she should aim for, thats the average. Level 6 is above average, and 7 is even more above average!!

So sounds like shes doing really well!!!

To give you an idea how she'll do at GCSE... I only did SATs in English, Maths and Science, and i got a level 7 in all 3. In my GCSEs, i got an A in English, A in Maths, and BB in Science.

Hope that helped a bit!!!

Londoner - this is a fantastic website to help you understand:

http://www.nc.uk.net/webdav/harmonise?Page/@id=6016

It goes through the different levels etc, what they mean, what they are achieving and were a great help to me, when my eldest son was coming home telling me he was working at Level 7 - what happened to A, B, C etc right through the school years!!

Hope it helps a little

Those are fab grades. You're often predicted 2 grades higher at GCSE to what you get in the SAT, unless your CAT scores aren't so good. That's what my school's done anyway. A level 7 is the equivalent to a Grade C at GCSE. If she gets 6's her SATs at the end of Year 9 she's likely to get B's and 7's A's.
