It's Ruth's first day back but, arriving at the ED, she is confronted by her old life and is tempted to leave, as the hospital drama continues. She is also dismayed to learn that she has to be non-clinical and is to be monitored by Abs. Together, they have to deal with an elderly gentleman, haunted by an incident in his past, and it's all hands to the pump when Maggie's grand-daughter, Lana, goes missing.
Meanwhile, a family of squatters is injured by an explosion in the warehouse they call home. The repercussions are
far-reaching, and someone has to admit their role in the incident.
Elsewhere, it's Toby's first day on his orthopaedic rotation, which he's nervous about and, unbeknown to him, Maggie has concerns about his ability. Consultant Sean discusses the implications of Toby's nervousness with him and reveals that Maggie doubted him.
There is also tension between Adam and Jessica as he reveals a family secret to a patient; Jessica is hurt that Adam hadn't told her. Later, she starts to open up to Zoe and hints about her feelings for Adam.
Ruth is played by Georgia Taylor, Abs by James Redmond, Maggie by Susan Cookson, Toby by Matthew Needham, Sean by Richard Dillane, Adam by Tristan Gemmill, Jessica by Gillian Kearney and Zoe by Sunetra Sarker.
