Corrie glamourpuss Carla Connor is about to get the shock of her life – when Tony Gordon pops the question. The wealthy businessman organises a surprise dinner party for the sultry factory boss – and guests Liam, Maria, Michelle and Steve have no idea it’s all part of his plot to make hard-to-get Carla his, once and for all.

When Carla returns home, she’s stunned to see everyone sitting round the dinner table – and there’s an even bigger shock in store when Tony asks her to marry him. The guests’ buttocks clench in embarrassment as Carla, assuming it’s a drunken gesture, hesitates to give an answer. But then the silver-tongued charmer produces a blingtastic diamond engagement ring and, realising that her lover’s deadly serious, Carla finally says “yes”.

A Corrie mole told the Daily Star on Sunday: “As everyone congratulates her, Carla can’t help but feel she was set up by Tony. But having her entire family around the table it was always going to be difficult for her to turn him down. Everyone will have to wait to see whether or not they make it up the aisle.” Soap fans can see the proposal on 17 March.

I can't see them getting married, Liam is bound to realise his feelings for her and will eventually do something about it (I hope)

oooh that is interesting, especially since i've found this too...

Gray wants darker plotlines?

Coronation Street heartthrob Gray O'Brien is apparently eager to become the soap's latest bad boy.

The Scottish actor, who plays clothing magnate Tony Gordon, is reportedly on the lookout for darker plotlines.

"Nice guys are great to play but I've always been jealous of the actors who get to do the edgier roles," The Daily Star quotes the 39-year-old as saying.

"Those characters are much more fun, so if that's what the future holds for Tony, bring it on."

Gray, who has also appeared in Casualty, Taggart and Peak Practice, could be in for a treat, as Coronation Street viewers have already learned that dynamic Tony has an ex-wife, Lindsay, who accused him of womanising and being a control freak.

The actor's character in Scottish soap River City, Billy Davies, was a serial womaniser.

His Corrie character is going out with factory boss Carla Connor, but their relationship has been far from smooth.

As well as Carla finding out about Tony's ex-wife, she temporarily ended their relationship as she came to terms with her feelings for brother-in-law Liam.

this could be interesting, especially if he becomes a darker character. I love Carla, she's a brilliant character, anything to keep him in the show following Liam's depature.

Tony is quite creepy already :p I think he'd make a good bad guy. The looks he gives when he doesn't get his way or something! Like when he walked off after telling Carla it was only a suggestion to buy Liam's share... the evil look in his eye . Then he broke that glass and had another evil look in his eye. And a few weeks ago he was really creepy when he broke into Carlas house, gave that poor knife an evil glare. I reckon he's going to be psycho :p.
