27-01-2008, 22:38
Well I don't think Kate Nash is worthy of a place in the Top 40. :p

I am surprised Rhianna's Umbrella and the Hoosiers' Goodbye Mr A is still in the Top 40! What an achievement for both songs! Just goes to show how popular they are...

Really glad Leon has gone down mwahahaha  and Basshunter is great being at Number 1 for a 3rd week - i love the song!

CrazyLea
27-01-2008, 22:40

CrazyLea
16-03-2008, 19:13
Hey how did you do that so easily  Takes me ages to delete the gaps and stuff and doesn't look like that .

Good on Duffy staying on to no1!!

I'm a little confused with Leona.. it's a double A side yeah? And FITS and BIT are number 2. Yet FITS is also 25????!?

Abbie
16-03-2008, 19:14
Okay now Im confused

Jessie Wallace
16-03-2008, 19:16
You you all so confused, what about?

CrazyLea
16-03-2008, 19:17
That Footprints in the Sand is in the charts twice.

Jessie Wallace
16-03-2008, 19:32
Oh yeh, it must be because of the double A side, i expect you can buy both, maybe i'll google it later and find out.

Abbie
16-03-2008, 19:32
Yeah it is confusing, but it just means they can make more money :p

Perdita
16-03-2008, 19:36
Today sees the release of the second single from Leona’s smash hit debut album Spirit.

The double A-side includes a brand spanking new single remix of ‘Better in Time’ and the gorgeous ‘Footprints in the Sand’, which is the official song for this year’s Sport Relief.

All profits from single sales will go to Sport Relief, making every copy sold a lifeline for the world’s most vulnerable people.

From Sony BMG Music UK 10/03/08

Hope this helps :)

Chris_2k11
16-03-2008, 19:41
its to do with it being a double A side. one song has to be chosen to chart seperately on downloads or something like that

Abbie
16-03-2008, 19:46

Chloe O'brien
29-05-2008, 15:10
I hardly know any of the songs in the top 40 now. partly because everyone downloads songs now so the charts don't matter. I used to like the chart show but that's not on now either.

Warwick Avenue has grown on me so much. I even think its better than Mercy

I still prefer Mercy and have it currently as my ringtone on my mobile but I have got the Rockferry CD and must say that it is one of the best CDs I have listened to in quite a while. I like all songs which does not happen very often.

X Factor champion Alexandra Burke has topped the Christmas singles chart with her version of 'Hallelujah'.

Burke's recording of the Leonard Cohen classic sold 576,000 copies last week, outselling the rest of the top 20 combined.

Its sales tally makes it the fastest-selling single by a female artist in UK chart history, beating the previous record held by Leona Lewis and 'A Moment Like This'.

"This is absolutely crazy, I can't believe it. It's been the best week of my life," Burke said. "Thank you so much to everyone that has supported me and bought the single. I'm bursting with excitement right now, it's incredible!"

Jeff Buckley's interpretation of 'Hallelujah' - taken from the late singer's 1994 album Grace - sold 81,000 copies to chart in second place, while Leona Lewis sold 72,000 copies of 'Run' to claim third position.

Meanwhile, Beyoncé places two singles in the festive top ten, climbing to four with 'If I Were A Boy' and zooming to eight with 'Listen', the Dreamgirls ballad she sang with Burke on last week's X Factor final.

Peter Kay's alter ego Geraldine McQueen bows at five with yuletide offering 'Once Upon A Christmas Song'.

Anglo-German dance trio Cascada have prevented Michael Jackson from scoring a posthumous number one single.

'Evacuate The Dancefloor', the lead single from their upcoming third album, debuts at the top of the UK singles chart this week, holding Jackson's 'Man In The Mirror' in the number two spot.

Last week's number one single, 'Bulletproof' by La Roux, falls to three.

Earlier this week Cascada singer Natalie Horler told DS that she had mixed feelings about her chart battle with the late superstar.

"In normal circumstances it would, of course, be the most amazing thing ever," she said. "For me though, it's just a real privilege to be in the same vicinity as him. I'm going to get the countdown framed just for that."

There are a total of 27 Jackson tracks in this week's top 75 - an increase of seven on last week's tally. After 'Man In The Mirror', the highest charting Jackson singles are 'Billie Jean' at ten, 'Thriller' at 12, 'Smooth Criminal' at 13 and 'Beat It' at 19.

Meanwhile, Jackson posts five LPs in this week's top ten albums, led by hits compilation The Essential at number one.

The top ten singles in full:

1. (-) Cascada: 'Evacuate The Dancefloor'

Michael Jackson's lengthy stint at the top of the album charts has come to an end as a new entry from Calvin Harris reigned supreme. Skip related content
The dead King of Pop's Essential collection was denied an eighth week at No 1 by Harris's Ready for the Weekend.

It was all change in the singles charts as well with the high-tempo track Sexy Chick, by David Guetta featuring Akon, ending Black Eyed Peas' time at top spot.

After its second spell at No 1, I Gotta Feeling was relegated to second, while Never Leave You, by Tinchy Stryder, came in at No 3.

Harris' Ready for the Weekend single offering slipped to fourth, while Sweet Dreams by Beyonce came in at fifth ahead of Remedy by Little Boots.

Esmee Denters' Outta Here, Mr Hudson and Kanye West's Supernova, Peter Andre's Behind Closed Doors and Ian Carey Project's Get Shaky completed the top 10.

The Essential, which had seen sales soar after Jackson's death, was the artist's longest stay at the top of the UK album charts.

Thriller and Bad each spent five consecutive weeks at number one.

'Everybody In Love' sold more than 100,000 copies in its first week of release to debut at No.1, becoming the group's second consecutive chart-topper.

Meanwhile, US pop singer Ke$ha - who scored a No.1 alongside Flo Rida with 'Right Round' in March - lands at six with solo debut 'TiK ToK'.

Susan Boyle's debut album has shot straight in at number one in the UK albums chart.

I Dreamed A Dream has sold over 410,000 copies since its release on Monday, making it the fastest-selling album of the year so far.

The Britain's Got Talent winner has broken the record for the biggest first-week sales for a UK debut album, beating Leona Lewis's Spirit and Arctic Monkeys's Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. She is also in the top five for the biggest first-week sales in general.

Boyle described the news as "fantastic", while Simon Cowell said: "I'm incredibly proud of Susan and delighted for her. This success couldn't have happened to a more deserving person."

Martin Talbot from the Official Charts Company added: "Susan Boyle's achievement is quite phenomenal. After all of the excitement surrounding her appearance on Britain's Got Talent, everyone expected her to make a big impact when she released her first music - but to arrive with such a bang is exceptional."

Elsewhere in the chart, Lady Gaga's The Fame Monster reached number seven, but Rihanna's Rated R failed to make the top ten and charted at number 16.

Last week's number one, Leona Lewis's Echo, dropped to number five, while Robbie Williams's Reality Killed The Video Star fell five places to number nine.

Rage Against The Machine have beaten X Factor winner Joe McElderry to the Christmas number one.

The band's 1992 single 'Killing In The Name' sold over 500,000 copies this week after a Facebook campaign urged fans to stop McElderry from reaching the top spot.

Rage Against The Machine led the race from the beginning of the week, although their advantage slipped when the CD version of McElderry's debut single 'The Climb' was released on Wednesday and by Friday morning they were ahead by just 9,000 copies. However, they went on to sell over 200,000 copies on Friday and Saturday.

McElderry sold over 450,000 copies of 'The Climb', but sales of the CD dropped over the last couple of days. The Official Charts Company suggested that the fall in sales could be linked to the bad weather.

'Killing In The Name' has now become the UK's first download-only Christmas number one and has broken the record for the biggest one-week download sales in British chart history.

The Official Charts Company's managing director Martin Talbot said: "Congratulations to Rage Against The Machine on their number one - as we have seen in recent years, overhauling any X Factor winner in the race for Christmas number one is no mean achievement. The public support we have seen for the record this week has been truly amazing - and handed them two all-time records.

"But congratulations too should also go to Joe McElderry. In taking the number two spot, he has still achieved one of the highest weekly sales of any single this year - in almost any other year, 450,000 copies would have given him the Christmas number one."

Susan Boyle is expected to secure the biggest-selling album of the year in the UK with her debut I Dreamed A Dream.

The record, which has been at the top of the chart for the past four weeks, has so far shifted over 1.4 million copies.

Lady GaGa's The Fame is on course to be the second most successful album of the year, while King's Of Leon's Only By The Night, released in September 2008, is in third place.

"In just four weeks, Susan Boyle has become the biggest album artist in the UK by some margin - an extraordinary achievement for an artist who was totally unknown until last April," said Martin Talbot of the Official Charts Company.

"She has clearly connected with a massive proportion of the British population and is now looking solidly in place to take the title of the biggest album of the year."

Joe McElderry has reached number one in the UK singles chart.

The X Factor winner lost out on the Christmas number one last week after an online campaign urged fans to buy the Rage Against The Machine song 'Killing In The Name'.

However, McElderry sold 196,000 copies of his debut single 'The Climb' over the last week, outselling Rage Against The Machine by 130,000 units.

'The Climb' may also become one of the year's top five biggest-selling singles. The number five spot is currently held by La Roux's 'In For The Kill', which shifted 660,000 copies, but McElderry is close behind after selling 650,000 singles so far.

The Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said: "The race for Christmas number one was the most exciting many of us can remember, but, having secured his own number one, McElderry can top his year off with another honour and has an excellent chance of making the year-end top five by next week."

Elsewhere in the singles chart, Cheryl Cole climbed into the top five with '3 Words', while Ke$ha re-entered the top ten with 'Tik Tok'.

However, Peter Kay's Animated All Star Band dropped out of the top ten to number 11 with 'The Official BBC Children In Need Medley'.

Iyaz has gone straight in at number one with his debut single 'Replay'.

The 22-year-old overtook Sidney Samson during the week and reached the top spot after selling over 106,000 singles.

Martin Talbot, the managing director of the Official Charts Company, said: "You might expect a sales lull at this time of year, but Iyaz and Sidney Samson clearly defy expectations. To have two singles selling such significant numbers in the first chart of the year is fantastic."

X Factor duo Jedward have debuted at No.1 on the Irish albums chart.

Their debut disc Planet Jedward - on which the identical twin brothers tackle hits by artists as diverse as Robbie Williams, the Beastie Boys and The Undertones - replaces Eminem's Recovery at the summit this week.

The album also features the pair's mash-up of Queen's 'Under Pressure' and Vanilla Ice's 'Ice Ice Baby', which topped the Irish singles chart in February, and their cover of Blink-182's 'All The Small Things', which debuts at number 21 this week.

Behind Jedward and Eminem, Florence and the Machine's Lungs holds steady at three, while Plan B's The Defamation of Strickland Banks rebounds from eleven to seven.

The second-highest new entry of the week comes from Professor Green, who lands at 18 with debut album Alive Till I'm Dead.

Planet Jedward is released in the UK on Monday.

Yolanda Be Cool & D Cup have risen to No.1 on this week's UK singles chart with 'We No Speak Americano'.

The club anthem, which first entered the charts a fortnight ago, jumped from number two last week to take the top spot and end B.o.B's short-lived reign. His song 'Airplanes' slips to three after Eminem & Rihanna climb up to two with 'I Love The Way You Lie'.

Despite his high debut on the album chart, Professor Green drops two spots from five to seven with 'Just Be Good To Green'. The same fate befalls JLS, who are barely holding on inside the top 10 just two weeks after topping the chart, as 'The Club Is Alive' drops from seven to nine.

None of this week's releases managed to make a dent on the top 10, with 'DJ Got Us Falling In Love' by Usher & Pitbull the highest new entry on the chart at 20. They debuted one place behind Jason Derulo's 'What If', which advanced by 21 spots on its second week in the top 40 to become this week's number 19.

The top ten singles in full:

The Wanted have reached number one with their debut single 'All Time Low', knocking Yolanda Be Cool & D Cup to second place.

The group have managed to ride their massive following to the top of the charts, comfortably outselling 'We No Speak Americano' and the week's second highest new entry, Gym Class Heroes's Travie McCoy with 'Billionaire', which premieres at three.

New entries dominate the rest of the top 10 as well, with Flo Rida and David Guetta's 'Club Can't Handle Me' arriving at five, while dance tracks 'One (Your Name)' by Swedish House Mafia and 'I Need Air' by Magnetic Man debut at seven and ten respectively.

The mass of new entries at the top of the chart has pushed Mark Ronson & The Business Intl's 'Bang Bang', Professor Green's 'Just Be Good To Green' and Enrique Iglesias's 'I Like It' just out of the top 10, but the biggest casualties are JLS with 'The Club Is Alive', which falls seven places from nine to 16 and 30H!3's 'My First Kiss', which plummets 11 spots from ten to 21.

The top ten singles in full:

1. (-) The Wanted: 'All Time Low'

Ne-Yo has landed straight in at the top of the UK singles chart with 'Beautiful Monster'.

The song's success gives the R&B star his third number one, and pushes the total amount of records he has sold in the UK throughout his career past the two million milestone.

Flo Rida & David Guetta were the unlucky losers in the close battle for the top spot, settling in at two after Ne-Yo sold just 10% more copies than 'Club Can't Handle Me'.

Last week's number one, 'All Time Low' by The Wanted, dropped four places to five, one spot ahead of last week's second-highest new entry, 'Billionaire' by Travie McCoy.

Elsewhere in the top 10, the premiere of the long-awaited video for Eminem & Rihanna's 'Love The Way You Lie' this week failed to transfer into a chart gain, as the song remains in fourth place seven weeks after its debut.

Meanwhile, The Hoosiers achieved the second-highest new entry of the week with comeback single 'Choices' landing at 11, ahead of Jason Derulo's 'What If', which climbs three places to 12 and 'I Need Air' from Magnetic Man, which tumbles to 13 in its second week on the chart.

The top ten singles in full:

1. (-) Ne-Yo: 'Beautiful Monster'
2. (5) Flo Rida ft. David Guetta: 'Club Can't Handle Me'

Flo Rida and David Guetta have climbed to the top of the UK singles chart with 'Club Can't Handle Me'.

The track first entered the charts at five a fortnight ago, before climbing to two last week and eventually displacing Neyo at the number one spot today, sending 'Beautiful Monster' down to fifth place.

Just ahead of the R&B star are Eminem and Rihanna with 'Love The Way You Lie', which climbs to the runner-up spot on the charts for the second time in its eighth week of release, and 'Missing You' by The Saturdays, which becomes this week's highest new entry and the band's ninth UK top 10 single.

Another significant faller on this week's chart is former number one The Wanted's 'All Time Low', which slips just out of the top five and settles in at eight. Just a few spots behind is Tinchy Stryder, who achieves the second-highest new entry of the week and his fourth top 10 single with 'In My System' at ten.

Outside the upper half of the chart sees a total of seven songs between the 11 and 20 spots take a tumble, the most significant of which is 'Choices' by The Hoosiers, which falls five places from 11 to 16, ahead of a new entry by Ellie Goulding, 'The Writer', which debuts at 19.

Roll Deep have emerged the victors of a close chart battle with Eminem & Rihanna for this week's number one single.

'Green Light' is the London-based grime collective's second track to reach the top of the UK charts, after their previous release 'Good Times' achieved the same feat back in April.

'Love The Way You Lie', meanwhile, remains at two for a second consecutive week, despite initially outselling Roll Deep in the midweek charts.

Last week's number one, 'Club Can't Handle Me' by Flo Rida and David Guetta, slides two spots to three, with another former chart-topper, Ne-Yo's 'Beautiful Monster', right behind them at five.

The Saturdays, who were once on course to top the charts with 'Missing You', settle into the lower half of the top 10 this week after falling four places from three to seven.

Elsewhere in the chart, Chase & Status rack up the second-highest new entry of the week with 'Let You Go' landing at 11, while Inna's 'Amazing' is another high-charting new arrival at 14.

Just behind them is Tinchy Stryder's 'In My System', which falls out of the top 10 on its second week of release, plummeting six spots to 16.

The top 10 in full:

Katy B debuted her dubstep tune 'Katy On A Mission' at five, ahead of Yolanda Be Cool & D Cup's 'We Speak No Americano', which fell two places to six.

Elsewhere, Brandon Flowers's first solo single 'Crossfire' landed at number eight, unable to outperform Travie McCoy's 'Billionaire', which moved down only one place to seventh. Ne-Yo and B.o.B finished at nine and ten respectively.

Olly Murs has beaten Katy Perry to the top of the UK singles chart with his debut track 'Please Don't Let Me Go'.

The 26-year-old singer surged ahead of Perry's 'Teenage Dream', the second single from her album of the same name, making him the ninth X Factor alumnus to have achieved this feat.

The song's success means that fans can now look forward to a naked spread of Murs in Heat magazine, which the star committed to last month.

The arrival of Murs and Perry bumps last week's number one, Taio Cruz's 'Dynamite', Eminem & Rihanna's 'Love The Way You Lie' and Flo Rida's 'Club Can't Handle Me' down two spots each to round out the top five.

Another reality TV act, Must Be The Music semi-finalists Pepper & Piano, make their chart debut at seven with 'You Took My Heart', a song that was only released due to their progress on the talent competition.

Elsewhere on the chart, several songs return to the top 20, with Usher and Pitbull climbing seven spots from 24 to 17 with 'DJ Got Us Falling In Love', while Ke$ha's 'Take It Off' is another climber, scraping into the top half of the chart after clambering eight places from 28 to 20.

Following Olly Murs's success, the X Factor connection continues further down the top 40, as 'Make You Feel My Love' by Adele re-enters the chart after being performed by Annastacia Baker on last week's edition of the show.

The Top 10 in full:

Alexandra Burke has displaced fellow X Factor star Olly Murs at the top of this week's singles chart.

'Start Without You' landed straight in at number one, the third time that the series five winner has achieved this feat, bumping Murs's track 'Please Dont Let Me Go' down to four.

Irish group The Script squeeze into the top five with their latest single 'For The First Time', while McFly's comeback single 'Party Girl' lands just behind them at six, becoming the boyband's fifteenth Top 10 release in six years.

Must Be The Music semi-finalist Emma's Imagination manages to replicate the success of her fellow contestants Pepper & Piano, as single 'This Day' breaks into the Top 10 off the back of her appearance on the show.

Elsewhere in the chart, former number ones 'We No Speak Americano' by Yolanda Be Cool & D Cup and 'Green Light' by Roll Deep slip just out of the Top 10, settling in at 11 and 13 respectively.

Meanwhile, Strictly Come Dancing judge Alesha Dixon returns to the charts as well as television screens, as new single 'Drummer Boy' debuts at 15.

The popularity of X Factor hopeful Cher Lloyd's performance of 'Turn My Swag On' sees the little-known version of the song by Greg Street enter the chart at 17, although both the Soulja Boy original and the Keri Hilson cover that Lloyd actually sung are absent.

Bruno Mars has dominated the UK singles charts after debut release 'Just The Way You Are (Amazing)' greatly outsold nearest rival Taio Cruz to reach number one.

The Hawaiian-born musician, who recently lent his vocals to Travie McCoy's top five hit 'Billionaire', sold almost double that of 'Dynamite', leaving the former chart-topper in the runner-up spot on this week's chart.

Mars's arrival ends X Factor victor Alexandra Burke's two-week run at the top of the chart with Start Without You, which today drops four places to five.

The highest new entry this week is Must Be The Music winner Emma's Imagination, whose latest single 'Focus' makes it to seven and becomes her second Top 10 single this month after 'This Day'.

Also charting highly with a new release is Italian DJ Alex Gaudino, best known for 2007's 'Destination Calabria', who scrapes into the Top 10 with 'I'm In Love (I Wanna Do It)'.

Past the Top 10, three former number ones take a tumble down the charts, as Olly Murs's 'Please Don't Let Me Go' falls from five to 12, Flo Rida's 'Club Can't Handle Me' slips five spots to 14 and Yolanda Be Cool & D Cup settle in at 15 with 'We No Speak Americano'.

'Written In The Stars' landed straight at the top spot, knocking last week's number one Bruno Mars into second place. It becomes the rapper's second number one after 'Pass Out' topped the charts in March.

Labrinth, who has collaborated with Tempah on several tracks, entered the chart at number three with his debut single 'Let The Sun Shine'. Enrique Iglesias rose five places to number eight with 'Heartbeat', which features Nicole Scherzinger:

Adele re-entered the chart at number four with 'Make You Feel My Love' following several X Factor contestants singing it at the Boot Camp stage of the competition. It originally reached number 28 when it was released in 2008.

Cee Lo Green has entered straight in at the top of the UK singles chart, after 'Forget You' - the radio edit of original track 'F**k You' - sold over 100,000 copies in its first week of release.

The US soul sensation, who had his first taste of chart success collaborating with Gnarls Barkley on 2006 mega-hit 'Crazy', became one of only seven artists to reach the sales milestone this year.

This week's runner-up is another new entry, 'Shame' by Take That bandmates Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow, a track that signals the end of a bitter 12-year feud.

Tinie Tempah couples his album chart success with having two singles in the top five, last week's number one 'Written In The Stars' at three and new entry 'Miami 2 Ibiza' at five.

Kings of Leon also chart highly with latest release 'Radioactive', which at seven becomes the fourth new entry to crack the Top 10 this week.

Meanwhile, X Factor favourite 'Make Me Feel Your Love' by Adele and The Script's 'For The First Time' both slip out of the Top 10, landing at 11 and 12 respectively.

The same fate befalls Katy B's 'Katy On A Mission', which drops four places to 13, just a few positions ahead of her collaboration with Magnetic Man - 'Perfect Stranger' - which makes its chart debut at 16.

Cee Lo Green has retained the UK singles chart top spot with mega-selling track 'Forget You' - also known as 'F**k You'.

The soul singer held off competition from 'Just The Way You Are' by Bruno Mars and dancefloor favourite 'Barbra Streisand' by Duck Sauce, to notch up a second week at number one.

This week's second-highest new entry is reigning X Factor champ Joe McElderry, whose sophomore track 'Ambitions' lands at six.

The top ten is rounded out this week by two massive climbers, Mike Posner's 'Cooler Than Me', which advances 13 places from 22 to nine, and Usher's 'DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love', which rises from 18 to ten.

Elsewhere, seven tracks between positions 11 and 20 fall down the chart, the biggest tumbler being Adele's 'Make Me Feel Your Love', which slips nine places from 11 to 20.

The top 20 also sees Travie McCoy's 'Billionaire' jump from 15 to 11, while two new entries - Pixie Lott's 'Broken Arrow' and Michael Bublé's 'Hollywood' - arrive at 12 and 17 respectively.

Bruno Mars returns to singles No. 1

Bruno Mars has held off competition from The Wanted to take 'Just The Way You Are' back to the top of the UK singles chart.

The 'Billionaire' collaborator's track, which first topped the chart four weeks ago, jumped past previous number one Cee Lo Green's 'Forget You' after it was covered by X Factor favourite Matt Cardle on last week's show.

Mars's success sees The Wanted settle for second place with their latest single 'Heart Vacancy', while other new entries - Katy Perry's 'Firework', Jay Sean's '2012' and 'Best Behaviour' by N-Dubz - also chart highly, landing at five, nine and ten respectively.

Elsewhere on the chart, two more new arrivals, Nelly's 'Just A Dream' and Diana Vickers's 'My Wicked Heart', just fail to break the top ten landing at 11 and 13.

Further down, Adele makes a slight gain with 'Make You Feel My Love', which climbs from 20 to 17, and Robbie Williams's long-awaited reunion track with Gary Barlow, 'Shame', tumbles 13 places to 20.

Meanwhile, the X Factor-related success present at the top of the chart fails to transfer to last year's champ Joe McElderry, as 'Ambitions' slips out of the top 20 in its second week of release.

Cheryl Cole has notched up her second UK number one and the fastest selling non-charity single of 2010 with new track 'Promise This'.

The X Factor judge's much-discussed performance on the show last Sunday saw her latest release sell over 157,000 copies this week, just pipping Barbadian singer Rihanna's comeback track 'Only Girl (In The World)' to the top spot.

The lead song from the 'Umbrella' hitmaker's upcoming album Loud achieved first week sales of 126,000, giving Rihanna her 14th UK top ten hit and the second fastest-selling single of the year so far.

Nelly's 'Just A Dream' climbs from 11 to eight this week, where it becomes sandwiched between two big fallers, in the shape of Duck Sauce's 'Barbra Streisand' at seven and The Wanted's sophomore track 'Heart Vacancy' at nine.

Outside the top of the chart, Michael Bublé's 'Hollywood' lands at 11 after being boosted 16 places by an X Factor appearance, while former top five smash 'Miami 2 Ibiza' by Tinchy Stryder and Swedish House Mafia slips just behind at 12.

Elsewhere, a triple bill of new releases - Tim Berg's 'Seek Bromance', Peter Andre's 'Defender' and Devlin's 'Runaway' - make their mark further down the chart, arriving together at 13, 14 and 15 respectively.

Rihanna has jumped to the top of the UK singles chart with new track 'Only Girl (In The World)'.

The Barbadian singer originally arrived in the runner-up spot behind Cheryl Cole's 'Promise This' last Sunday, but reached the summit following improved second-week sales of more than 134,000 copies.

In notching up her fourth UK number one, Rihanna sends X Factor judge Cole falling to two this week, just ahead of 'Happiness', the debut single from America's Got Talent semi-finalist Alexis Jordan.

A few climbers pepper the upper section of the chart as well, with Katy Perry's 'Firework' advancing two places to four, while The Saturdays achieve their eight UK top ten hit, after their Flo Rida collaboration 'Higher' rises to ten from last week's 22.

Looking just beyond the top of the chart, will.i.am and Nicki Minaj arrive at 11 with new release 'Check It Out', while 1992 classic 'Stay' by Shakespears Sister re-enters at 12 following Cher Lloyd's "performance of the season" on last week's X Factor.

Meanwhile, two former chart-topping acts make somewhat disappointing returns, as Cheryl Cole's Girls Aloud colleague Nadine Coyle fails to replicate her bandmate's success with 'Insatiable', which arrives at 26, and Roll Deep follow two successive number one singles with a new entry at 29 in the shape of 'Take Control'.

The top ten in full:

1. (2) Rihanna: 'Only Girl (In The World)'
2. (1) Cheryl Cole: 'Promise This'
3. (-) Alexis Jordan: 'Happiness'

Rihanna has fought off competition from Take That's highly-anticipated comeback single to keep 'Only Girl (In The World)' at the top of the UK singles chart.

The 22-year-old singer relegated 'The Flood', Take That's first release with original member Robbie Williams for over 15 years, into the runner-up spot, thereby giving them their sixteenth top five track.

Meanwhile, McFly also make their UK chart return with Taio Cruz collaboration 'Shine A Light', which at four becomes the fifteenth top five hit of their career.

Cheryl Cole slips down the top ten and settles in at seven two weeks after 'Promise This' topped the chart, while Adele's 'Make You Feel My Love', which first entered at 26 in 2008, climbs to nine from last week's 19 following the song's performance by X Factor contender Rebecca Ferguson.

However, an appearance on the talent show fails to lift 2005 winner Shayne Ward into the top ten as his comeback single 'Gotta Be Somebody' debuts at 12, sandwiched between two other new entries in the form of 'The Time (Dirty Bit)' by Black Eyed Peas and Pink's 'Raise Your Glass' at 11 and 13 respectively.

Other new entries on this week's chart include Gyptian's 'Hold You' at 16 and The Royal British Legion's Remembrance Day release 'Two Minute Silence' at 20.

The top ten in full:

1. (1) Rihanna: 'Only Girl (In The World)'

JLS have secured their fourth UK number single with Children In Need track 'Love You More'.

The X Factor boyband soared to pole position after outselling album chart dominators Take That by almost 40%, forcing them into the runner-up spot for the second consecutive week.

"We are so proud to be the official number one with the Children In Need single," JLS member Aston Merrygold declared. "It's actually incredible what's happened these past few weeks and what's really topped it off is that the single has helped to raise loads of money for such a fantastic cause.

"We have to thank Children in Need for letting us get involved in the first place and everyone who has supported the record! Definitely one of our highlights to date and we hope to do a lot more for the charity in the future!"

The biggest climber of the week is Ellie Goulding's cover of Elton John classic 'Your Song', which leaps from 39 to three after being featured in a popular Christmas advertising campaign for department store John Lewis.

Dance anthems also make their mark on the chart as Far East Movement's 'Like A G6' arrives at six, one spot ahead of 'The Time (Dirty Bit)' by Black Eyed Peas, which finally cracks the top ten after clambering four places to seven.

As well as the success of JLS and Take That, the boyband connection continues further down the rankings, as McFly's 'Shine A Light' falls five places to nine and Irish group Westlife score their 25th consecutive top ten single with 'Safe' at ten.

Elsewhere, fallers occupy eight of the ten positions between 11 and 20, with Mike Posner's 'Cooler Than Me' at 13 and Cheryl Cole's 'Promise This' at 17 making the biggest losses after slipping seven and ten places respectively.

Meanwhile, Rihanna grabs a second track within the top 20 with new Drake collaboration 'What's My Name?', which lands at 18 despite not being due for release as a single until January.

The top ten in full:

1. (-) JLS: 'Love You More'

Take That have rocketed to the top of the UK album chart with Progress, which becomes the fastest-selling album of the century after shifting almost 520,000 copies in its first week.

The boyband's first record with original member Robbie Williams for 15 years is the first album to sell over half a million copies since Oasis mega-hit Be Here Now in 1997.

Martin Talbot of the Official Charts Company commented: "Since their reunion as a four-piece four years ago, Take That have firmly established themselves as the UK’s favourite band.

"Following the return of Robbie Williams to their ranks, that record has been further cemented - and they are now well on course to rule Christmas 2010, just as they dominated Christmas 2006 and 2008."

Settling in behind Take That's record-setting return is Barbadian singer Rihanna, who notches up her third UK top five album with new release Loud.

Also arriving in the top ten this week are André Rieu's Moonlight Serenade at four, Pink's Greatest Hits collection at five and Bruce Springsteen's The Promise at seven.

The mass of new entries pushes several former high-fliers down the chart, with the most significant fallers being James Blunt's Some Kind Of Trouble, which drops nine places to 12 and Rumer's Seasons Of My Soul, which crashes from seven to 17.

Meanwhile, former chart-topping acts Shayne Ward and McFly make somewhat underwhelming comebacks, with their respective albums Obsession and Above The Noise stumbling in at 15 and 20.

The X Factor finalists have gone straight in at number one in the UK singles charts with their charity single 'Heroes'.

The David Bowie cover, released in aid of Help For Heroes, knocked last week's chart-toppers JLS down to third position.

One Direction's Zane told Reggie Yates: "It was pretty crazy when we were told we got to number one. Because it's for such a good cause and something we're all really proud about, that makes it so much better."

Of this week's top five, three of the singles are X Factor-related, with last year's runner-up Olly Murs coming in four with his single 'Thinking of Me' and 2008's second-place finishers JLS at three with 'Love You More'.

Rihanna takes two spots within the top ten, with Drake collaboration 'What's My Name' at ten, and 'Only Girl in the World' dropping one place to five.

The Black Eyed Peas, Cee Lo Green and Mike Posner all drop out of the top ten, while The Beatles re-enter the chart with 'Let It Be' at 38.

Other new entries are Gorillaz with 'Doncamatic' at 37, Usher with 'More' at 33, Jessie J with 'Do It Like a Dude' at 25 and Brett Domino's comedy effort 'Gillian McKeith' entering the chart at 29.

The latest album, featuring the return of Robbie Williams, sold an additional 208,000 copies this week, adding to last week's record sales of 520,000.

This achievement, record sales within one week, had not been seen in the UK charts for thirteen years.

Overall, the album that sold the most copies came from the compilation category, with Now That's What I Call Music: Volume 77 selling 334,000.

Westlife claim the third spot with their newest album Gravity, selling 95,000 copies in its debut week.

This year's X Factor finalists have retained their position atop the UK singles chart with charity track 'Heroes'.

The David Bowie cover, which was released in support of British charity Help For Heroes, fought off competition from former Pussycat Dolls star and X Factor guest judge Nicole Scherzinger, who scores this week's highest new entry with 'Poison' at three.

Rihanna appears on three singles in this week's top ten, with 'What's My Name', her collaboration with Drake, climbing two places to number eight, and David Guetta's 'Who's That Chick', featuring the Barbados-born popstar, landing at nine. Finally, her own 'Only Girl (In The World)' slides down to number seven, making her only the fourth artist in UK chart history to be credited on three singles in the top ten simultaneously.

Elsewhere on the chart, Katy Perry's 'Firework' and Take That's comeback single 'The Flood' both slip out of the top ten for the first time at 11 and 12 respectively, while Coldplay are a festive-themed new entry at 18 with 'Christmas Bells'.

Meanwhile, another Yuletide classic - Mariah Carey's 1994 hit 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' - re-enters the chart at 22, peaking above new entries from N-Dubz, who land at 23 with 'Girls', and The Wanted, whose 'Lose My Mind' reaches number 29.

Take That have notched up a third week at the top of the album chart with Progress, thereby achieving a career total of 52 weeks at number one across both of the UK music charts.

The five-piece boyband - who are only the eighth act ever to achieve this feat - have sold over 900,000 copies of their latest effort since its release and currently sit at second place on the album chart of the year so far behind Lady GaGa's The Fame.

Last year's X Factor runner-up Olly Murs also makes a record breaking appearance with his self-titled album, which posted the biggest first week sales for a debut artist of 2010 thus far, after shifting over 108,000 copies.

Also arriving in the top ten this week are Camden-based hip-hop group N-Dubz, who settle in at seven with Love Live Life, and Welsh songstress Duffy, whose sophomore effort Endlessly lands at nine.

Elsewhere on this week's rankings, The Black Eyed Peas return with their sixth studio album The Beginning, which debuts at 18, and after three consecutive weeks of falling Rumer's Seasons Of My Soul manages to climb back into the top half of the chart after advancing five spots to 20.

The Black Eyed Peas have climbed to the top of the UK singles chart with their Dirty Dancing remix 'The Time (Dirty Bit)'.

The group notched up a fifth UK number one with their techno track, after an energetic performance on last Sunday's X Factor semi-final saw the song advance five places and snatch pole position on this week's chart.

Settling in at second is 'Whip My Hair', the debut single by Hollywood star Will Smith's daughter Willow, who at just 10 years old becomes one of the youngest artists in chart history to score a top ten hit.

Elsewhere, Rihanna continues her hold on the chart after 'What's My Name?' and 'Only Girl (In The World)' both climb to four and five respectively, while her collaboration with David Guetta, 'Who's That Chick?', holds steady at nine.

The mass of new entries and climbers around the summit of the rankings push the X Factor finalists and 'Heroes' off the top spot and down to seven on the night of the show's grand finale, while last year's runner-up Olly Murs lands right behind them, after falling four places with 'Thinking Of Me'.

Outside the top ten, a previously unheard Michael Jackson track featuring Akon entitled 'Hold My Hand' becomes the second-highest new entry of the week at 11, while Alexandra Burke's 'The Silence' also makes a respectable placing at 18.

Meanwhile, festive-themed tune 'Christmas Lights' by Coldplay climbs five places to 13, while YouTube star Alexa Goddard gains six places with a Cher Lloyd-inspired cover of 'Turn My Swag On' at 20.

Take That have dominated the UK album chart for a fourth week with Progress, which has now become the biggest-selling record of 2010 so far after breaking the one million sales barrier.

The popular boyband's first album as a five-piece for 15 years remained comfortably in pole position after shifting over 200,000 copies - a sales increase of 15% from the previous week - a month after its chart debut.

Commenting on this week's second and third-placed finishers, Martin Talbot of the Official Charts Company said: "Take That have really made the Christmas albums market their own this year and it’s all the more impressive given the competition from Michael Bublé’s Crazy Love and Olly Murs's self-titled [album] each selling over 100,000 copies this week alone."

Elsewhere on this week's chart, former number one album Come Around Sundown by Kings of Leon makes a reappearance in the top ten after advancing six places, while The Black Eyed Peas surge ahead eight spots to take The Beginning to nine.

Also experiencing a Yuletide resurgence in sales is Annie Lennox's Christmas Cornucopia, which rockets 11 places to 18 from last week's 29, and X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, who 58 weeks after the release of her debut album Overcome re-enters the top 40 at 22 with a deluxe version of the record.

However, unable to cash in on the holiday season are last week's high-charting new entries Love Live Life by N-Dubz and Endlessly by Duffy, which both fall out of the top ten after crashing eight and ten places respectively to 15 and 19.

X Factor star Matt Cardle has been declared as this year's Christmas number one with his winner's single 'When We Collide'.

The ex-painter and decorator sold a total of 439,000 copies in the six days since his victory on the ITV talent show, putting him ahead of this week's runner-up Rihanna and 'What's My Name?' by more than 300,000 copies.

Cardle - who has also secured the fastest-selling non-charity single of the year - stated: "I can't believe it, as if winning wasn't enough. I honestly didn't think I'd even make it on to the live shows, let alone win and now be the Christmas number one. I can't even begin to describe how it feels. It's nuts, crackers and crazy.

"To think that many people have supported me and bought the record is absolutely mindblowing. Thank you so much to everyone. I'm going to have one or two beers to celebrate!"

In third place this week is 1963 classic 'Surfin' Bird' by The Trashmen, which clocked up just under 70,000 sales following a Facebook campaign to avoid having an X Factor star as the Christmas number one for the fifth time in six years.

The new arrivals and risers at the peak of the chart send previous runner-up Willow Smith and 'Whip My Hair' tumbling down the rankings to nine, just a few places behind a massive climber in the shape of Take That's 'The Flood', at six from last week's 15.

Although Facebook users failed to dictate this year's Christmas number one, as they did in 2009 with Rage Against The Machine and 'Killing In The Name Of', several other singles endorsed on the site have made a substantial impact on 2010's Yuletide chart. The most successful of these alternative tracks are Biffy Clyro's original version of Cardle's cover - entitled 'Many Of Horror' - at eight, and Cage Against The Machine's silent 1952 piece '4:33' at 21.

Meanwhile, several other X Factor-related artists slide out of the top ten for the first time, namely last year's runner-up Olly Murs with 'Thinking Of Me' at 14, the 2010 finalists and their charity single 'Heroes' at 15 and guest judge Nicole Scherzinger's 'Poison', which drops eight places to 18.

By contrast, festive classic 'Fairytale Of New York' by The Pogues and the late Kirsty MacColl glides to 19 from last week's 26. The 1987 tune has appeared on the chart during December every year since 2005 and peaked at 12 last Christmas.

Take That have held on to the album chart top spot for a fifth consecutive week, as Progress adds another 330,000 copies to its tally.

The boyband gave their mega-selling album a publicity boost with appearances on both the Strictly Come Dancing semi-final and the X Factor final last weekend, which helped bring the record's total sales to 1.44 million.

Meanwhile, the next three albums behind Progress - Rihanna's Loud, Michael Bublé's Crazy Love and Michael Jackson's Michael - all posted six-figure sales numbers this week, shifting 194,000, 139,000 and 113,000 copies respectively.

Take That's recent performances also help launch Robbie Williams and his greatest hits collection In And Out Of Consciousness back into the top ten, the former-chart topping record advancing to seven from last week's 14.

Also experiencing a small sales bump amongst a top 20 consisting of 12 fallers are The Script with Science & Faith and Rumer with Seasons Of My Soul, both of which hop forward one place to this week's 16 and 19.
