The BBC has received nearly 200 complaints after EastEnders showed scenes in which a teenager was stabbed by a gang.
Viewers have complained that the pre-watershed soap may have been watched by young children and were too violent.
According to the Daily Mail, the BBC had 184 complaints, while Ofcom received seven.
The scenes, which were broadcast at 7.30pm, saw Jay Brown, played by Jamie Borthwick, getting stabbed by a gang member after a game of football in the park.
A BBC spokesperson commented: "EastEnders has always tackled difficult issues and we acknowledge that some viewers could consider this storyline challenging.
"This is part of a long-running storyline that in no way glamorises the use of knives."
Mediawatch UK's John Beyer said: "I think this shows that at a flagship programme such as EastEnders they are prepared to ignore public opinion, prepared to ignore the regulator and the complaints and carry on regardless."
Hang on, we didn't actually see him get stabbed. It was only when he fell to the floor that he realised he'd been stabbed. They weren't violent. In fact, they were less violent then somebody being beaten up.

Ridiculous. I don't think they could have toned it down anymore than they actually did and people still complain!
Don't people have anything better to do than complain?
All we saw was blood on Jay's hand and trousers.
People regulary get shot or stabbed on The Bill and bleed out everywhere yet nobody complains about that. What's the difference?

Exactly! The fights on eastenders are frequently more violent then this!
People who do this must have the BBC complaints line on speed dial
If people complain about this storyline then I dread to think how many complaints the BBC will get for Ruth hanging herself in Casualty!
 Exactly Stars!
I can't believe that; all we saw was blood, which some people are bothered by (me included) but the blood that was showed didn't bother me and I think it was acceptable for the timeslot. Does anyone remember how many complaints it was when Bird and his gang raided the Vic? Those compliaints were understandable, but these, ridiculous! They'll be complaining the next time there's a drugs tip off in a club at this rate!
EDIT: I don't recall anyone complaining when Dennis was stabbed and that was much worse and had more of a view of the wound.

Oh dear, some people need to get out more. :nono:
The stabbing wasnt that bad, we didnt see it, it was like a casual throw an object and then we realise he gets stabbed

I used to get disappointed if there was only one murder in an episode of Midsommer murders :rotfl: :o

Yeah, it wasn't realistic enough for me. I wanted lots of blood.

The population of Midsommer must increase after each show otherwise the whole village would have been killed off by now.

Oh my days, what is there to complain about...! I think people should open their eyes to the outside world where people get stabbed all the time, Eastenders is just trying to raise awareness of this serious issue but it seems people are quite ignorant to what reality really is these days.
It could not have been much of a cut anyway, when Jay was lying on his bed or when he was in the wheelchair in hospital you could see nearly all his leg and I could not spot a bandage or dressing anywhere.
