On the first day of Carly Samuels (Marsha Leanne Crosby) murder case, Sergeant Smith (Alex Walkinshaw), Leanne Samuels (Lorna Brown) and Inspector Gina Gold (Roberta Taylor) wait outside the court nervously. The police van transporting the two suspects, Tito Morientes (Christian Reyno) and Dwayne Fox (Syrus Lowe) turns up as PCs Reg Hollis (Jeff Stewart) and Tony Stamp (Graham Cole) struggle to control the crowds. Inside, Leanne and Smithy meet their barrister, Julian Ford (Nigel Betts), while DC Grace Dasari (Amita Dhiri) is shocked to see ex boyfriend and prosecution barrister, Sunil Davdra (Ace Bhatti).

Smithy soon takes the stand during the tense hearing while Tito and Dwayne look on, and he’s later furious to learn that a witness has retracted his statement. In desperation, Smithy makes his way to the estate and persuades Alisha Danniels (Amandla Crichlow) to stand up in court as the main witness to the murder of her best friend. As Smithy and PC Emma Keane (Melanie Gutteridge) escort Alisha and her father, Oscar (Danny Sapani) to the court they are run off the road by another car.

Elsewhere, PCs Nate Roberts (Ben Richards) and Diane Noble (Kaye Wragg) are on patrol and as Diane shows off her martial arts skills, they are shocked to find pregnant Debbie Crossley (Sophie Holden), who has been brutally beaten. After further investigation, the officers discover that her boyfriend Rahim Wood (Tariq Jordan) paid a local junkie to beat her up to induce a miscarriage. Rahim is arrested and after questioning, is placed in a cell by Nate, but the arrest takes a horrible turn for the worse when Rahim smashes his head against the wall and screams out that Nate has attacked him.

After being run off the road, Sergeant Smith (Alex Walkinshaw), Alisha Danniels (Amandla Crichlow) and Oscar (Danny Sapani) find themselves trapped in the overturned car. PC Tony Stamp (Graham Cole) comes to the rescue and drags everyone to safety. Although shaken, Alisha is determined to go to court where she is pulled apart by the prosecution barrister, Sunil Davdra (Ace Bhatti). Knowing that time is running out, Smithy is delighted when the suspect who ran them off the road, Spencer Wright (Shaney Gittens), is arrested. The information Spencer provides in his interview leads to a dramatic confession later on in court.

Back on the Jasmine Allen estate, terrified PCs Beth Green (Louisa Lytton) and Reg Hollis (Jeff Stewart) find themselves trapped in the mobile police unit while rioting takes place outside. As Sun Hill officers arrive to take control, PC Will Fletcher (Gary Lucy) is injured and carried to safety just as a petrol bomb explodes next to them.

As the rioting escalates, the officers use shields in an attempt to control the crowds with PC Nate Roberts (Ben Richards) delighted to be in the middle of the action. However, the situation takes a terrifying turn when Nate is knocked unconscious and Will watches helplessly as he is dragged into an underground car park by rioters.
