Harry Potter fans are set to get a double treat in the film of the final story – and movie makers are set to double their money.

Crew working on the sixth Potter film, Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, have been told J.K. Rowling's seventh novel, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, will be released in two halves.

For film-makers Warner Bros, whose first five Potter films have made £2.5billion in box office receipts – more than any other movie series – it could mean a £500million bonus in ticket sales.

But sources insist the reason behind the two-movie plan is artistic rather than financial.

The books got progressively longer – the first, the Philosopher's Stone, had 223 pages while Deathly Hallows has 776 – and fans have complained chunks of later novels have been left out of films.

A film source said: "There's so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves. There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on Voldemort that needs to be done really well."

And Ms Rowling points out on her website: "It is simply impossible to incorporate every storyline into a film under four hours long."

At Warner Bros, who are rumoured to be thinking of Oscars and a big-name director such as Steven Spielberg for the final film, a spokesman said:

"People are discussing all possibilities."

I think this is a good idea. Almost everything in DH should be included in the film which will be impossible in three hours. I hope there isn't too long a gap between the first installment and the second though.

I think the films will be better but pfft it's so expensive to go to the cinema nowadays. I hope they make the films well and not drag them out just to make two :p

I think its a good idea as everything HAS be to be in the last movie, they'd film the two together i think and then i reckon they could release them maybe like a few months apart that way your kept in suspense kind of thing :)

Brilliant idea! I love it.. Not bothered if it makes money for them but I will be glad if they get all the detail in and nothing is missed!

I know, even if they are doing it for money or whatever I dont care, it will be better for us fans as it will give the book more justice

Hmm, on one hand it really does annoy me when what I think are significant parts of the film are cut out, and I sit in the cinema and state loudly to whoever I'm with that hasn't read the book what it is that has been left out. But, I hope there isn't too much of a delay between the two and also that it doesn't seem too odd having it in two parts - it's not like they could just put the epilogue in the second one. I suppose it could be good that way though as it gives us something to look forward to for a bit longer, rather than knowing so soon that there will never be any more Harry Potter films coming out.

The Daily Telegraph has a new article today focusing on the continuing rumors of the final Potter film being split into two parts. When these rumors started one month ago, all we heard from WB was a big "no decision has been made." Today, we hear from the film's producers:

From David Barron: "We are still discussing it. The announcement will be made hopefully in the not-too-distant future, with regards to the way seven shapes up," Barron tells The Back Room.

The only negative of splitting the book into two films, says Barron, "is that people could possibly perceive it as being one last chance at cashing in. But the real positive, if we were to do that, would be that we wouldn't have quite the battle we always have of 'How do you compress all that book into just over two hours of screen time?'

From David Heyman: "A couple of people have expressed interest, people have gotten a few calls and a few emails, but it's still a year away," Heyman says.

"We won't start filming 'til February next year. So it hasn't really gone bananas yet. We've got thoughts, and I'm sure something will be announced in the not-too-distant future."

they should have done it for goblet of fire, so much was missed out.....but then if they did it for every book daniel radcliffe would be 30 by the time they finished!!!

I really think DH should be done in two parts. There is no way they can do the book justice in one. Although DH is shorter than OOTP and HBP there is a lot more important stuff that explains why Harry really survived etc.

I think that in order to preserve the story, the film should be split.

Hardcore fans of the books have missed out on so much in the films because they've been compressed; it would be great for the final one to tell the full story of the Deathly Hallows.
