Queen voted greatest British band ever

Queen have been named the greatest British band of all time in a poll, beating the likes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Take That and Oasis.

The Freddie Mercury-fronted band was voted for by more than 20,000 BBC Radio 2 listeners on the strength of their lyrics, originality, song-writing, live performances and showmanship.

Listeners then selected the five finalists and a debate was held on New Year's Day in a three-hour show by DJ Mark Goodier to decide on the eventual winner.

Queen was announced as the top band live on air, beating The Beatles by just 400 votes.

They were a band made up of 4 very talented individuals. I love all Queen's music, from their 70's rock to the amazing 80's stuff....

I bet they were amazing to see live in concert.:)

Big Queen fan here, back in the day. They were fabulous live, I remember going to see them three nights in a row at Wembley. I also saw them at Earl's Court and Alexandra Palace.

They made some cracking music and deserve to be in the top five, but I would have given the award to the Beatles.
