To Catch A Killer: Part 1
Wednesday 9 January 2008 8:00pm - 9:00pm on ITV1.
While patrolling a shopping centre, PCs Beth Green (Louisa Lytton) and Nate Roberts (Ben Richards) are approached by Jane Clarke (Virginia Fiol), who’s 11-year-old son Dean (Luke Beach) has gone missing. The officers give chase when they hear a scream and see Dean being dragged away by a hooded man.
Nate and DC Grace Dasari (Amita Dhiri) find a note identical to the letters child killers, Alistair Haig and Linda Johnson (Katy Cavanagh) left 20 years ago, when they abducted and murdered three boys. Worried that a copycat killer is on the loose, DI Neil Manson (Andrew Lancel) and DS Stuart Turner (Doug Rao) pay Linda a visit in prison where they find her trashing her cell. Elsewhere, PCs Will Fletcher (Gary Lucy) and Tony Stamp (Graham Cole) investigate a robbery that leads them to a potential suspect in the abduction case.
Back at the prison, Linda reluctantly decides to help Neil with the investigation and says that the suspect may be Mike Wilson (Richard Cant), a man she had recently broken up with. When officers search Wilson’s house they are disturbed to find a shrine to Linda and Haig. Wilson is brought into the station for questioning where it becomes clear that he worships Haig in particular.
Much to Stuart’s concern, Neil grows close to Linda as they work together on the case. Linda reveals secrets about Wilson’s past that help to break him down and he finally admits he has killed Dean. But when a call is later received from the terrified sounding boy the team realise that Wilson is a fantasist and the suspect is still on the loose
To Catch A Killer: Part 2
Thursday 10 January 2008 8:00pm - 9:00pm on ITV1.
Superintendent Heaton (Daniel Flynn) prepares to hold a press conference about abducted 11-year-old, Dean Clark (Luke Beach). As Heaton is hounded by journalists asking questions about child killer Linda Johnson’s (Katy Cavanagh) involvement, Pete (Perry Blanks) and Tommy Barclay (Anthony May), the brother and father of one of Linda’s victims, demand to speak to him.
PC Diane Noble (Kaye Wragg) finds a ransom note in the station and Heaton is furious that they missed who left it. The note demands that Linda drop £10,000 in a park in return for Dean and DI Neil Manson (Andrew Lancel) persuades Linda to go along with it. The team organise the sting and Neil watches while Linda walks to the drop off point. He quickly aborts the mission and runs to rescue Linda when he sees Pete running towards her with a knife.
After further investigation, the team discover that Scott Haworth (Luke De Lacey) is the abductor. Linda is stunned and tells Neil that Scott was their first victim who she helped escape before her dead partner, Alistair Haig, killed him. DCI Jack Meadows (Simon Rouse) questions Scott’s wife Mary (Niky Wardley) who admits she threw him out several weeks ago, after he beat up their son.
Believing that Scott wants to see Linda again to get some answers, Jack and Heaton use the media to let Scott know that she’s in hospital. Scott is soon seen frantically searching the hospital and when he pulls a knife out, Neil has to quickly decide work out whether its answers or revenge Scott wants.
