BBC One triumphed as the clock struck midnight last night, according to early figures.
The channel's coverage of the New Year celebrations, which included a huge fireworks display at the London Eye, drew around 9.2 million viewers at midnight.
On ITV1 at the same time, live coverage of a New Year concert from Take That and the Sugababes had 2.7 million while on BBC Two, Jools Holland's Annual Hootenanny was seen by 2.6 million.
Overall, BBC One's New Year Live averaged 6.3 million between 11.10pm and 12.15am, up 200,000 on 2006. Jools Holland's Annual Hootenanny averaged out at 2.9 million between 11.05pm and 1.15am and Countdown to Midnight: Take That and Guests Live at the 02 Arena had an average of 2.4 million between 11.15pm and 12.45am.
