Thought we could start a thread about Christmas Present advice.

Stuck on what to get someone? Ask for ideas here!

_ _ _

Me, I'm thinking of getting my mom some perfume, but have no idea what kind to get. She's only ever had boring plain Charlie Blue, and I want to get something new and exciting. She's fairly old though, so older women like a different smell dont they? I'm thinking about 30 quid, any ideas?

bondboffin: I think something like Sarah Jessica Parker if your mum likes her? If she has a fav. celeb who's brought out a perfume you could get that for her? Or what about one of those experience thing, massages/makeovers(relaxing ones from a medi-pedi etc.).. You could get a price list from a salon (they usually do treatments for men too so don't worry about looking like a fool or feeling a bit odd)..

Abbie: Just ask as soon as you get back (to schooL) or if your feeling a bit generous just buy everyone a little something

It's such a coincidence I just read this thread because I was just sorting out my Xmas present list (who to get and what to get and how much).. I decided armed with my Boots Advantage card I shall browse through thier catalogue and get gifts from there! Good offers and some good prices for everyone so you know! Just a little tip ;] x

Well its just some of them arent sure and some have said that they are only buying for some certain people, you see our group is complicated we are not all close to certain people, long story. But anyway there is 6 of us at college and then 3 have went to different places which has made it even more complicated

I dont know what to get my grand parents - grand mother in particular, if she wants something she'll just go out and get it - can see where my shopping habits come from!

Sooo what do you get the grand mother with everything? I normally get tickets for the theatre, but I got tickets recently for her birthday present and there isnt anything else on that they would like at present. I need to get something therefore different/unusual...any websites out there people recommend?

Any ideas welcome....:)

P.S. Davey, I am not going to get her a Millets voucher, before you suggest it!!!

has she got a hobby? if so get her something to do with that. If not, start up a hobby for her, give her something to do in her free time. Maybe one of those kits for starting family trees or something? I got that for my grandparents a few years back and it went down a storm, my grandad really got into it, travelling the country interviewing relatives and digging out files from variuous archives, they really enjoyed it! :D

My mum is really into the geneology stuff at the moment. Everytime she sees an elderly relative who might have some new info she has to stop and talk about it for ages, going through the whole family tree that she has got so far. It does my head in.

For those people who are really difficult to buy or who have everything why not buy a gift from oxfam unwrapped? Basically, you buy something from the oxfam website or catalogue such as a mosquito net or some chickens for people in third world countries and the person you are buying it on behalf of gets a certificate to say that they have given a gift. There are hundreds of different items from nets to wells.

Sooty: You could try lastminute.com for last minute great deals and packages.

Abbie:.. It dosen't really matter if you don't get everyone a present, just get a present to the people your close too. If they suggest it a bit to late say you already have it sorted and do not wish to participate (I only played Secret Santa once and personally I don't like it much)

If you store loads of photos of the family PB, you could possibly maybe get your grandparents, a slide show photo frame (i don't know the proper name) but my parents are getting my nan one for Christmas. You buy the frame, and put lots of the photos of the family on it - and you put it on a shelf, and it plays a slide show of all the photos you've put on there - just a suggestion. :) Forgot the name of the product though - i'll find out for you!

Edit: It's called a digital photo frame. :)

My sister has one of those digital photo frames. You can put a memory card in it straight from your camera so everybody can view the pictures together. Her's goes on the wall.

They're great around Christmas or whenever you have people round. It's always a talking point when it's switched on and the pictures are going.

Would they be thrilled to support a llama farmer in Africa, Dave? :hmm: If so, your present problems are over! lol I have bought 'presents' from the Oxfam website for awkward (as in havent a clue what to buy them) family members. Just hoping come Christmas morning, they arent disappointed with them!!! Otherwise, I'll have to pop down to the local Shell garage pretty sharpish to get something.....

I was wondering if anyone had any idea what I could get my gran. She won't be able to go home again, so it'll have to be something that would be useful in a hospital or nursing home. I really want to give my parents an idea other than nighties and dressing gowns, because we must have bought her those for about the last 5 years. Usually we spend around £30-£40.

About these digital photo frames, what sort of shops can you get them in, because they sound like something to suggest to my mum the next time we look for something for her?

Thanks :)

Kim,

You can get those photo frames in any electric store like comet, dixons etc...
I never had a gran so I wouldn't know what to get them. My kids just get my mother a photo of themselves, nighties or general mammy/gran pressies

Bryan - i don't know if you still needed ideas (some perfume's my mum has)
Ghost (the one in a moon/cresent bottle), Hugo Boss - deep red, Clinque -simply/happy ???

Kim - Maybe you could get your gran some nice photo frames and put photos of your family in them, i know photos always go down well with my gran! Or maybe some audiobooks of her favourite novels, my grandad gets them and he loves them, you can get them for nearly all well known novels, it might then give your gran something good to listen to in hospital/nursing home

We.ve done this this year with my brother and sisters and their other ohalfs! ive had more fun finding things for £5 than i ever did buying 'big' pressies!

i found boots and superdrug quitr good as they ahve a 3 for 2 on so i could get more for my money! and if you could wait another week you may find they cut their prices ( i got loads last year when they did this)

What sort of things is your dad into???

Lea why don't you buy some of your relatives £5 worth of lucky dip lottery tickets. You never know they may be lucky and win the jackpot.
