FROM DAILY STAR
SOAP fans will be eagerly awaiting the dramatic moment when Corrie's Liam Connor is rescued after plunging 300ft off a cliff.
The factory boss is hauled into the RAF chopper after spending a night trapped in the freezing cold.
And it is touch and go whether he will pull through, having suffered a punctured lung and broken bones.
The scenes will be Coronation Street’s blockbuster start to the New Year, hitting our screens from January 4. Liam – played by Rob James-Collier, 31 – and sweetheart Maria Sutherland (Samia Smith, 25) head to the Lake District for a holiday.
But on the first day Liam’s dog Ozzy runs off chasing a rabbit and vanishes. As the darkness closes in, Liam finds the dog and tries to reach it, but loses his footing and falls off a cliff.
Desperate Maria eventually manages to raise the alarm, but unconscious Liam is not found until the following day.
As the scenes were shot in the Lake District yesterday, the cast and crew had a surprise visit from footballing legend Jack Charlton.
The 72-year-old England World Cup winner came across the shoot while walking with pals and stopped for a chat.
An insider said: “Rob is a huge fan of Jack and couldn’t believe it.
“It gave everyone a boost on set, because it was a pretty cold and miserable day!”
