Holby's Sam Strachan discusses being stricken
Holby City actor Tom Chambers talks to whatsontv.co.uk about his cancer storyline.
Holby's Sam Strachan has never really taken life seriously. But in Tuesday night's episode of the hospital drama he was given a reality check as he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Asked why he felt his character had been dealt such a blow, actor Tom Chambers says: "He's been a prat so he's kind of getting his just desserts - but you can't wish that on anyone really."
And he's looking forward to getting his teeth into such a major storyline. "It's a great honour because you get to explore more as an actor," he reveals, "but then you feel that, as a mark of respect for people with cancer, you just need to do it justice."
In next Tuesday's moving episode, viewers will see Sam cut off all his hair in preparation for chemotherapy. "It felt very weird, very surreal," says Tom.
