Is it just me, or are the shops getting hyped up for Christmas way too early these past few years?

I can understand a few Xmas goodies out now, but full on decorations? Theres over a month to go! And Debenhams had their Xmas store out in September!

thank you, someone who agrees with me. I have banned my mum from mentioning christmas until november the 1st one month and a bit i think is ok. I was in Tescos and the christmas music was on already. I reckon by Dec 25th 'll be going mental.

One of the shops over here had their decoration up in the window before Halloween was even over.... it is far to soon to have christmas stuff up.. I always put my christmas decorations up on the 6th Dec and they come down 6th Jan...

Have to agree with you, I love Christmas, but there was Christmas music on at my work on Saturday and I just wanted to scream. It's a bit early yet still, but most shops have had Christmas stuff out for ages.

I've nothing against wrapping and cards and everything being in the shops this early as it can take a while for people to decide what to buy everyone once all the gift guides and such come out, but decorations in November I think is too early. We usually put our tree up on December 1st, which I think is fine, but this year the lights have gone up in town already whereas they haven't done before. I noticed even more of them on the way home.

I think the shops comercialise it too early up here they had chocolates and cards in the shops at the end of August. I don't mind the hype come November. I put my tree and decorations up on the 1st of December. We have a christmas CD playing when we do it.

Woolies had their Christmas tv advert on before the end of October complete with the Santa, reindeer and snow. I heard The Pogues and Kirsty McColl on the radio yesterday.

I don't mind all the cards etc being in shops now. By Christmas week I'm fed up of hearing "It'sssss Christmasssssssssssssssss" everywhere I go.

Is it just me or does anyone else find Christmas really stressful? All the shopping for presents, trying to find something that people would like, tidying the house, putting the tree up, preparing food and entertaining guests that stay into the small hours in the week leading up to the big day just wipes me out.

What are you all doing for Christmas? My sister, her husband and my niece plus their two dogs are coming Christmas Eve and staying until Boxing Day. Its going to be chaos, I have no idea where everybody is sleeping :searchme:

:hmm:

I think things are starting a little too early in some places, but then thats probably because I have 2 birthdays (now three) to sort out prior to Christmas which is hard enough in itself, let alone a celebration that seems to be getting more and more commercialised as the years go on. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Christmas, but the incessant toy adverts that are on the telly constantly in the run up etc, it puts so much pressure on parents to buy for their children when some can't afford it.

My decorations don't go up till the weekend before Christmas and they are down by Jan 6th

The lights are already up in livingston town centre.

This is the first year that I have noticed all the Christmas stuff jockeying for position with the Halloween stuff. This has been going on since the begining of September around here.

Like Jojo I put up the decorations the weekend before Christmas - then I take them down again before I go away on 2nd January. I hate coming home to decorations and cards.

Christmas is too commercialised, and now that my kids are older and more mercinary the fun seems to be leaching slowly from Christmas.

a little of topic but it will never be christmas for me until I see 2 ads.. 1st is the budwieser advert with the horses in the christmas scene and the coke ad (holidays are coming, holidays are coming.... ) love them two

Trinity

Well - Coke, dressed Santa, so I can see the logic!

(In my day it was Father Christmas, just like it was guising and not trick or treating. I am turning into a grumpy old woman, lol)

it's getting ridiculous how early they start hyping it up, takes all the fun out of it.

Do any of you go on to the NASA website on Christmas Eve and track Santa round the world. It's another thing to get the kids hyper. :D

Yeah I agree with you. With most people.

I still get excited over the littlest things though.. decorations, cards, Santa 8-) :p and I wouldn't mind if a friend or family member got me something rubbish for xmas, like a freddo bar haha.. so long as it's wrapped up 8-)

Oh shops putting crimbo stuff out early has been going on for years, I dont think its any worse now than it was 5-10 years ago....

I have to say, I love getting into the Christmas spirit....and seeing all the decorations/lights up, it makes the shops/area etc..look really nice, cheery, and welcoming on the dark winter nights. :D

I'm a big fan of Christmas but I really don't like the hype around it - like Chris has said, it's become so commercialised now and it really annoys me when adverts are on the television and Christmas stuff is sold in shops in like October. In the heart of November, i think is a reasonable enough time for adverts to start being shown and for decorations to go up etc. If the hype is surrounding it a lot earlier, it just makes actual Christmas less special in my opinion.

What I do like about Christmas is knowing that giving my family and friends presents will make them really happy, and that's what makes me happy, and also spending time with the family is very special to me.

I think the best part of Christmas is catching up with family that you don't get to see regularly over the year. Just being able to sit and talk and get drunk is probably the best part for me.

Fredo bars are the best I love them. Yummmyyyy!!

I was brought up that Christmas was all about the birth of Christ and the man in the red suit second i have a nativity scene that's we bring out every year when we put up the decorations. I agree Christmas is getting more commercialised every year, but when you see kids faces light up on Christmas morning then its worth all the hassle.

hehe the shopping centre which is small where I live has decorations up and everything, but they are quite nice, not tacky
