It's that time of year again for us to hibernate. Saturday 27 October is the night when we turn our clocks back one hour, and we get an extra hour sleep on Sunday morning (The extra hour does not apply to parents) :p
If your are still awake at 1am between Saturday and Sunday change your clock if not change the time before you go to bed on Saturday night.
I hate this time of year. The dark days are so depressing and short.
Is it true that the day is shorter in Scotland than it is in the south of England?

what happened to our summer lol
The only decent parts about winter are Bonfire Night with fireworks and Christmas. Snow is also a good thing because the day doesn't seem so dark.

I don't know about weather in England but up here in Edinburgh since Tuesday it has been foggy and dark until 8.30am in the morning. Where I am in the Central Belt isn't too bad bad, but up north it comes dark at 4pm.

Yes, but in summer you get the most daylight.
Thank to Kath for putting up the thread. I completley forgot i always do. I was reminded a few days ago as well.

I wonder if you will get paid for the extra hour.
The sun started setting at 4.30pm here and by 5pm it was dark.

I agree with you Rimmer I woke this morning just after nine and I felt like I had slept for a week it was brilliant. thouogh saying that we were out this afternoon at rehearsals for the local community centre panto, we came out at half 4 and it was pitch dark.
About the query if Sarah will get paid the extra hour. I used to work night-shift in a casino and they didn't change their clocks until the casino closed so in spring time we finished an hour early at 3am and in the winter we worked until 5am to level it out. I don't know about you Sarah but when I worked the extra hour it felt like 10.
I hate leaving for work when its dark and it being dark before I come home.

It is nearly this time again, the clocks go back an hour on 26th October. I will be on a course and it means I will get home an hour late :(
:( about summer 'ending' but I'm extremely grateful for the extra hour sleep! My tutor overheard me saying to my friend today that I have to be up at 6 and out the door at 7. She was like, "You have to be out of the door at 7?!" I said yeah and she's like, "Where do you live?!" Lol, stupid bus time.
:cheer: Im looking forward to my extra hour!! :D

Wooop :D Winter had better be snowy and lush!
We had nop summer so hopefully Winter will and should make up for it!
Then again it is Britain.. our weather doesn't know what it's doing.
It definitely doesn't. It was quite sunny today IN OCTOBER!!! Hello, weather, that was meant to be several months ago, lol! :rotfl:

Me too! :D
We've had like one hour of daylight today! I got up as normal at quarter to 8 and it was still dark which was strange, it brightened up at dinner time and was quite warm but by half 2 - 3 it was going dark again. But I reallllly like this time of year :D
The only thing Im bot gonna like are the dark nights!

I may not be around tomorrow night as I'm off out. So just to remind you all that BST offically ends tomorrow, which means the clocks go back 1 hour at 2am so we can all have an extra hour in bed on Sunday morning.
So i have to get up at 9 on sunday for work, and i will go to bed way before 2am, so should i set my alarm for 9 still or do i set it for 10.
I am completly confused.
Put your clock back one hour when you go to bed, and set the alarm for the time your normally get up.
It will be lighter again in the mornings for a few weeks, and dark by 17.15 where I am on Sunday :crying:
I am one of those people who need sunlight and it is the start of a long dark winter for me.
Plus, it is blowing a gale and lashing with rain as I speak.
Anyway - I am off to the gym to cheer myself up!

:lol: two people at work here turned up an hour early ON MONDAY!! you think they would have known by then
That happened to a spanish girl who used to work with us five years ago. She was always late for work or would come wondering 1 minute before her starting time. So one Monday after the clocks went back she arrived for work 1 hour early, everyone was gobsmacked she said she hadn't left her flat all weekend so she didn't know the clocks had to go back.
There was a guy in an old job once who came in an hour LATE and claimed he didn't know the clocks when back... we told him that should have made him early not late

lol he should have saved that excuse for when the clocks went forward!
The clocks go back in the early hours of Sunday, October 25th this year, so one hour longer in bed :)

"End of British summer time"
when did it start!!
I think, now don't quote me on this but wasn't there like a minute or two in June where it didn't rain???
In a weird way I'm looking forward to the clocks going back an hour next week.
More sleep :D
Mind you I get loads of sleep as it is :p

I am looking forward to it so I can see daylight.. I am coming to work in the dark, leaving in the dark.. some bright time would be good for me

I need some kind of brightness as I get up and come home in the dark it's not good. At one stage I thought I suffered from S.A.D as the lack of daylight is getting to me.
That is what I am looking forward too, although it is not quite dark yet when I drive home. Mind you, it will change just for a short time, going to work at dawn but it will then be dark when I drive home. I hate the dark season :(
I'm feeling it already :( For some reason I thought the clocks went back last weekend and it also seemed to be getting darker earlier. It wasn't until yesterday someone told me we're still on BST.

Don't forget tomorrow night, put your clocks back. Hibernation time begins.
Not when you got kids. Mine are guaranteed to wake up at the same time
I am glad for the extra hour in bed - my boys are going to a party and I have to pick them up late...
I nearly forgot, it wasnt until I turned on my laptop and saw the time, that I realised I forgot to change the clock on my phone :p
My phone changed the time automatically, which was a nice surprise
Everything has changed over automatically for me. I was very disappointed to get up at 12pm and find it was actually 12pm and not 11am. At least it wasn't 1pm :)
lol, well I thought it was getting up at half one, so pleased it was actually half 12 :p
Chris_2k11
25-10-2009, 14:33
I still think of it as half 3 :p
lol well I keep doing that, looking at the time and thinking it should be an hour later
It is happening again this weekend, remember to put your clocks back one hour on Sunday morning :D

The past two mornning it has been pitch dark up here until after 8am. I want to hibernate.
.:SpIcYsPy:.
31-10-2010, 22:52
Time to get a minor case of SAD! I wish we could hibernate and stay in our warm duvet covers all Winter long...
I didn't wake up until 9am this morning. Usually the sun has me awake at 7-8am. Its rather dark still in north Staffs :(
Don't forget that the clocks change this coming Sunday, at 02.00am on 26th October the clocks go BACK one hour!!
Thanks for the reminder. I've embarrassed myself several times over the years by forgetting and turning up somewhere an hour early or late. :o :D
