Just ten months after marrying in a candlelit service near their country cottage in Gloucestershire, Tina Hobley and husband Oliver Wheeler are expecting their first child, which is due next spring. "I still can't quite believe it," says a delighted Tina, who plays ward sister Chrissie Williams in Holby City. "It's the perfect next stage for us."
The actress already has a daughter, eight-year-old Isabella, from her marriage to Steve Wallington. "It was such a long time ago that I had Bella," confides Tina, 36. "I have forgotten everything. I feel like a first-time mum-to-be. But Bella has reassured me that she will be a hands-on older sister and can't wait to help out with bedtime stories."
Oliver, a 38-year-old PR director, is equally excited. "I feel like I've been a family man since I met Tina," he says "I adore Bella and as I said at our wedding in December, she, more than anyone else, has taught me the meaning of family.Whether it's a boy or girl, I know we are going to feel even more complete as a family unit."
The couple own a stunning five-bedroom stuccofronted townhouse in London's Little Venice, but consider their cottage in the Cotswolds to be home. "It's where we got engaged and married, and where we spend most of our free time. That's where my heart is, explains Tina."
Now they plan to buy a larger house in the area. "It will be the perfect place to disappear every weekend," she adds "There are mountain bike trials and a sailing club nearby, so there's more than enough space and fresh air for Bella and the little one to enjoy an idyllic childhood."
Tina has already told her bosses at the BBC the wonderful news, but she is yet to find out how Holby City scriptwriters and writers will deal with her pregnancy. "Somehow I don't envisage a pregnant Chrissie on the show," she explains. "I'll probably take time out when I start to show and will return a couple of months after the birth."
