From Digitalspy:
Harry introduces a ‘no inappropriate attenders’ policy, aimed at patients who come into ED and could be treated by their GPs, or who could attend their local minor injuries clinic. Whilst most doctors are in agreement, the nurses disagree, particularly Tess and Abs. They feel it goes against every tenet of their profession. Harry argues it will give them more time and space to deal with important cases.
Such a case is about to hit them: It’s the early hours of the morning. Diane (played by Gaynor Faye - The Chase, Coronation Street), is an attractive and confident boss - taking her (mostly male) team out for drinks to celebrate a new commission. She’s in control, flirting and drinking them under the table. She fields a call from her husband, but she tells him to go back to bed, saying she won’t be too much longer. When she finally emerges, tired and slightly drunk, she takes an un-booked minicab. The driver, Perry (played by Marshall Lancaster - Life On Mars) seems friendly enough.
However, Diane’s journey home turns into a nightmare when Perry drives her to a secluded spot and rapes her. Diane is in shock, and Perry makes it clear that reporting this would be a waste of her time – she reaches forward and attacks Perry who loses control of the car, just as a lorry is coming towards them.
There is a huge crash. The lorry driver (played by James Quinn - New Street Law, Fat Friends) surreptitiously throws a bottle of vodka away and almost does a runner – but passers by force him to call an ambulance. Back in the ED, he is behaving badly and causing a ruckus. Ruth is asked to deal with him – but one look fills her with horror, as she is forced to face the abusive alcoholic father she hasn’t seen for years.
Harry and Adam struggle to save Perry’s life, whilst Diane is examined by Tess. Tess guesses that something is wrong, and encourages Diane to tell her what happened. She spends time trying to persuade Diane to report the rape.
