Actress Caroline Langrishe has joined the cast of CASUALTY.
She will play the role of Marilyn Fox, the hospital's executive director for strategic development.
She said: 'I'm really enjoying it. It was completely unexpected and out of the blue.
'I've never even been in an episode of CASUALTY in my entire career, which is certainly as long as the show's been on television.
'I got a phone call from my agent, saying 'do you want to do a few episodes?'
'I thought: 'How odd, will I be someone dying very slowly?' and she said 'No, it's a sort of semi-regular character'.
'It sounded very me, and the sort of thing people are used to seeing me do on television anyway.'
She added, 'My daughters have got lives of their own. Even though they're still at home, I feel the need to get out of the house as much as possible for that reason.'
She continues, 'It's a very happy set-up, a very comfortable place to work. It's an established machine, but it's a proper drama one rather than a soap.'
Caroline, whose TV credits include Judge John Deed, Chancer and Lovejoy, will make her debut later this series.
