Spoiler from all about Soap Magazine out today
Jack the (Bad) Lad
Here's the first sighting of Scott Maslen as new Eastenders heartthrob Jack Branning, arriving in Walford for nephew Bradley's wedding to Stacey Slater. Scott quit The Bill to play the role of Max's brother, but we've heard it's not going to be a happy family reunion for the Branning Boys.
Apparently Jack is a nasty, racist bully, who was thrown out of the police force because of his ugly prejudice. Max struggles to hide his antipathy towards his boorish brother - and he really bristles when, as soon as he arrives in Albert square, Jack sets his sights on Ronnie Mitchell. Jack however, is undeterred and pursues the vic vixen - but as he get's closer to Ronnie, he unwittingly exposes a secret from her past that could threaten both families...

I saw pictures in The Sun for this on sunday (i think it was sunday anyway) and he looks hot lol, and there was one of him and max having an argument/fight. And in another interview Scott hinted that Jack and Ronnie would go out
Looks good. Wonder how far the racism will go?

He is also working for or in cohoots with Archie to get revenge on the Mitchells also? Is this why he gives Sam a job and starts an affair with her?
Jack did sell the carlot to Archie
I can't understand why he is working with Archie, but I think he is. It would've made more sense around the time of the car lot sale I think; Jack wants Ronnie back, Ronnie was with Joel and Archie wanted to split up Ronnie and Joel.
Maybe it's something to do with that sudden trip that Jack found that Phil had sent Roxy and Amy on on Friday. Jack and Phil have been enemies for ages and this just makes it worse for Jack. Archie wants revenge on all of the Mitchells over the bail money, and I guess they could get revenge together.
However, if Jack's motive for doing it is Amy, I don't understand it in a way. Archie made Ronnie give Danielle up and then kept them apart when he found out who Danielle was. Archie's hardly the person you want to be working with when your problem is lack of access to your daughter. Also, if Jack still wants Ronnie back, selling the car lot to Archie got a bad enough reaction so this will make things even worse for him. He's made it worse anyway by sleeping with Sam.
Maybe finding out about the trip on Friday was why Jack slept with Sam. He knows it will wind Phil up and there's been a lot of history of men sleeping with Sam purely to get at Phil.
jack didnt sleep with sam, they just kissed:wall:
It said in a soap mag that they ended up in bed. Given the way they spoke about what happened afterwards too, I thought it sounded like they had slept together off screen.
The end up in bed together
Jack has become a useless boring character and this affair with Sam is awful

I have read this too. He would have had all three Mitchell women in his bed then, only Peggy has resisted his charms so far.
That would be ridiculous, even for EE. Weren't Jack and Ronnie supposed to have grown closer again over Christmas?

He certainly has a thing for the Mitchell women
God  He'll have had all the Mitchell's minus Peggy. But if he still loves Ronnie why would he bed her mum? Or maybe i'm wrong about him still loving Ronnie :S

They way he threatened Archie and went to see Ronnie in hospital shows he still loves her but then again he did sleep with Roxy and Sam when he supposedly loved Ronnie
Maybe they slept together in the past away from Walford before he knew Ronnie

latest buzz on twitter is that scott maslen has quit his role as jack in eastenders
EastEnders star Scott Maslen has announced that he is bowing out from his role as Jack Branning.
The actor, who has been playing Jack since 2007, will depart screens at the end of his contract later this year.
Maslen said today (February 24): "I've loved playing Jack, and who wouldn't want to work on one of the most successful British TV series, but I've been offered many other roles and just not been able to explore them in the past, simply because of time and commitments to EastEnders, and so now it feels like the time to tread a new path for a while.
"I've played Jack for five and a half years and had some fantastic storylines, but it's now time to have a break from him and try something different.
"I'm incredibly attached to Jack, his family and EastEnders, but as an actor I'd like to take on some new challenges for a bit. EastEnders is just incredible, it's phenomenally rewarding and I love working here, but now it's time to move on to pastures new."
EastEnders' executive producer Lorraine Newman added: "Since October 2007, Scott Maslen has brought the wonderful Jack Branning to life on our screens. From Scott's heart-wrenching portrayal of a grieving father, to Jack's determination in the coming week to take on Phil Mitchell, the variety in Scott's material shows his fabulous range as an actor.
"Scott will remain on your screens until late in the year, and there is plenty more drama to be played out before his departure."
An eventful week for Jack begins tomorrow (February 25) when he knocks love rival Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) unconscious at The Arches, leaving him facing possible legal repercussions when the attack is revealed.
Jack is currently in a relationship with Sharon Rickman (Letitia Dean), but her connection to Phil has often caused problems and the love triangle will continue in the coming weeks.
Off screen, Maslen has won the 'Sexiest Male' prize at the British Soap Awards for the past four years. He was also named 'Best Actor' at the ceremony in 2010

Agreed, he's not been used properly for a while, think his character had ran out of stories. There's not really a lot more that c old bee done with him.
Up to the scriptwriters, surely, to make more with a character ... how else do some actors stay in the same soap for 50 years like Bill Roach in Corrie?

I agree Perdy. I've always thought that when they use the excuse that they've taken a character as far as s/he can go etc. It's a very lame excuse as it's up to the producers and scriptwriters what they do with a character and they can always give them an "exciting" storyline if they want to.
Don't blame Scott Maslan for quitting - portraying a decent looking bloke who is infatuated with someone who looks and behaves like Sharon would have stretched the acting skills of a young Sir Laurence Olivier!

Jack Branning will leave Walford after realising that he and Ronnie Mitchell will never get over their tragic past.
Jack (Scott Maslen) attempts to cement his reconciliation with Ronnie (Samantha Womack) next week by buying her an engagement ring, knowing she is hurt over her feud with Phil.
When Lola convinces Jack and Ronnie to look after Lexi while she visits Dexter, the three of them enjoy the afternoon together.
However, it soon becomes all too clear that this could have been the life that they would have had, bringing back painful memories for the pair.
Realising they will never get over their past, the two have an emotional discussion and Ronnie makes a heartbreaking decision which makes Jack realise he needs to leave Walford.
The pair share an emotional goodbye and Ronnie watches as Jack drives out of Walford, leaving her behind.

Well of course it's jack who leaves. I mean jack is the one with property and a business, so of course it's him who leaves!
Scott Maslen has rejected a chance to return to EastEnders.
Speaking to the Daily Star, the actor said he doesn't want to go back to the Square so soon and admitted there is an element of snobbery towards those who work on a soap.
"They've asked me back and I'm lucky they've kept the door open," he said. "But I want to have a go at other stuff.
"When you do a show like EastEnders it takes a while for people to forget you did it. They associate you with it.
"I didn't want to go back just 18 months after leaving," he continued. "There is an element of snobbery with soaps.
"It means people in the industry don't see you as an actor, they see you as a commodity."
Maslen - who appeared as Jack Branning from 2007 to 2013 - also revealed that he took on the role to "pay the bills".
"There is always a catch in this industry. In the kind of acting I'd like to do people would look at EastEnders and say, 'you don't want to touch that'.
"But we've all got to pay the bills and work. When I made a deal to do EastEnders that was my choice for my own reasons - for my family, to get a house."
Last month, the actor revealed that he misses the financial stability the soap offered him, as well the "close friends" he made on set.
The 43-year-old recently appeared in the new E! drama The Royals.

Does that mean another child who is going to miss a parent's funeral?
Yes, looks like it but then that is the norm in soaps, but I suppose they can't always get actors back for funerals and other family events you would expect them to attend as their former character as they are hopefully busy acting elsewhere

This is awful. Missing his on screen father's funeral because he didn't want to go back so soon and then turning up a few months down the line is unforgivable.
I guess he is struggling for other work now that The Bill is no more.

I looked at his wiki.profile and hes done very
little work since leaving EE in 2013 and I
suppose repeat fees from.the Bill which he left
in 2007 will dry up. He gas a wife and family
so probably had to put his pride to one side
(as have many others) when their hopes of
"doing better" after a soap didnt materialise?!
If the character does anything to bring Bobby
gate to closure and get justice for Max / that's
fine with me.
Needed much more believable writing-
could have been much better!

I think that does happen - perhaps more than
people think.
People dont forget their parents behaviour to
them when they were children/ teenagers-
and some never forgive!! The actor playing Jacks
father was.a lovely gent in real life and the
character rehabilitated to " cuddly grandad" and
suitable person for Dot to marry and have
reason to stay in the Square.
But he had been a most appalling father to
his children when they were young.
So tho some chose/ appeared to forgive him
its believable to me that not all would!
could jack still be working for old bill and want to take down mitchells too like vincent

The problem in this case is that they couldn't apply this to Jack. He was the only one who didn't have some kind of issue with Jim, I believe.

jack was jim's favourite
im guessing the show offered lots of moolah to return
im sure they did offer plenty of dosh.!! I can't
say I blame him for accepting.
As far as character is concerned-
being the "favourite" can be a mixed blessing.
Doesnt mean he loved his father or that he
couldn't see all his fathers faults and have been
the victim of some.Or become subject of siblings
resentment.
Jim was a drunkard for years -which means
he lost all power of discernment over his
actions and wouldnt have any clear memory
of them!
Sometimes "the favourite" holds the parent in
deep contempt - that being such is an insult
to them. Also there was Jims treatment of
his wife Renee over many years which can
affect the childs opinion of the father more
than bad treatment of themselves!
Where the is bad treatment of a group
of people by an individual - their anger /
resentment isnt always in the same proportions
as the way they were treated!
i.e. some complain more and others deal with
the matter in other ways.
Not a very Christmassy subject - but no simple
answers either! Jim was still alive when Jack
left - perhaps the subject will be looked at with
a different perspective now ?!
I think Jack's explanation that he couldn't face the funeral was reasonable (if not particularly in character), and at least he paid his respects at the scattering of the ashes.
I still find it strange that Scott Maslen couldn't bring himself to return to film a few scenes at Jim's funeral, given it was also John Bardon's send off and they'd worked closely together for years. You must be right lizann that he was offered a lot more money this time.
EastEnders' Christmas Eve episode ended in a shock as Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) returned to the Square to surprise ex-wife Ronnie (Samantha Womack), and now the actor has confirmed that his character is sticking around for good.
Speaking of his return, Maslen said that he was "really excited" to be back in Albert Square.
"I'm looking forward to working with Dominic [Treadwell-Collins]. I worked with him before when he was a storyliner there," said Maslen.
"I'm really looking forward to working with him and the newer faces. There's so many exciting things going on at the minute.
"It was like I hadn't left. It felt a bit strange because there are new characters who I don't know - but that fits with the story.
"When you go away for a while and come back, there's always new people you gotta get to know and that's part of the fun of it. It felt great!"
Maslen also opened up about the popularity of his and Ronnie's relationship, adding that he'd love to see the couple get back together in the future.
"One of the things I've learnt while I've been away is that people don't forget about Jack and Ronnie, and they're constantly wanting Jack and Ronnie back together," he added.
"It's a bonus to have that because it means people like what me and Sam do. We enjoy working together and we have a lot of fun which is so important. I'm looking forward to spending more time with her."
But just how much time will he be spending with Womack as he films future episodes? Well, a lot, seeing as he'll be sticking around permanently in the new year.
"I'm back for a few episodes," the actor confirmed, "but then I'm back properly from January."
Maslen originally played the role of Jack from 2007 until he quit the soap in 2013.

Tensions run high on EastEnders next week as Jack Branning receives some surprising news from the coroner.
Jack (Scott Maslen) has been left devastated after his wife Ronnie and sister-in-law Roxy were both killed in a horrific swimming pool accident on New Year's Day.
Tragedy struck just hours after Jack and Ronnie had tied the knot in a lavish ceremony, crushing their hopes of a happy new life in Ongar with their family.
We've already seen some emotional performances in the fallout from the Mitchell sisters' demise, but there's more to come next week as Jack faces a particularly difficult day.
First of all, he has to see his kids Amy and Ricky off for their first day at their new school, despite Ronnie and Roxy's mum Glenda warning that it may be too soon for the children.
Once alone, Jack tries to distract himself as he waits for the imminent coroner's report, but he can only avoid the inevitable for so long.
After finally hearing the truth from the coroner, Jack struggles to process the news and a raging argument soon follows between him and Glenda.
But what has Jack just been told? And why are things getting so heated with Glenda?

Following Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell's tragic deaths on EastEnders, star Scott Maslen (Jack Branning) has opened up about coming to terms with the death of his on-screen wife.
In the dramatic New Year's Day episode, we saw the sisters' tragic end after Roxy plunged into a swimming pool and never came up.
Ronnie, who had just wed Jack, went in after her sister and also tragically drowned.
Speaking about filming the aftermath – notably when Jack broke down while saying goodbye to Ronnie – Scott admitted that the storyline was "very draining".
"Even though it's fiction you still have to take yourself to that dark place in order to do the scenes justice," he told OK! magazine.
He quipped: "I certainly drank a lot more beer."
However, when pressed on whether he thought it was right to kill off the Mitchell sisters, Scott added: "That's the nature of soaps.
"It's always changing to give people the shock element and to keep people on their toes.
"I know people think that their characters shouldn't do certain things, but it's just the world we work in."
Since their shock deaths, it's emerged that Roxy apparently had a heart attack while in the swimming pool.

"I think Denise and Jack's marriage has been on the rocks for the best part of this year since her kind of affair with Ravi and since she went to the hotel with him. There is going to be trouble for this couple as well. There is going to be an infidelity in the lead up to Christmas but I'm not going to say who, which one of them or who with.
